  • Buster Odeholm dials in a BRUTAL downtuned guitar tone for Humanity's Last Breath! He uses the Fortin Nameless suite amp sim, the TSE 808 overdrive pedal sim and a 3rd party IR with FabFilter Pro Q, but the same concepts should apply with any plugins.

      @@completionofanexorcism1195 The DAW you use doesn't matter. There's no wizardry. It's years of experience and doing things over and over again, learning what tools will be best suited for what situation, what room you're recording and/or mixing in, etc... I'm not tryin to put down what you said because I definitely get where you're coming from. Sometimes it does seem like there's some big secret. But perfect performances, the right instruments/amps and nailing all the takes, understanding that source tone is basically everything and just having the dedication to get the best takes no matter how long it will take is the secret. You can't really change the way things sound. You can really just accentuate the good parts. So if the tone you're recording with isn't good then pick another one that is because you truly can't polish a turd. In my opinion anyway.

      Dialing in an amp on it’s own is a completely different thing from dialing in tones for a mix. Dialing in tones to record distorted guitars is hard, because distorted guitars are the opposite of what you want in a good mix hahah. It’s even harder when you tune down.

    I dont understand the point of cranking the mids on the amp up to 10 but then turning around and slapping an eq on and cutting out mids and high mids.

      amp knobs sculpt the preamp distortion tone. All post eq affects cab's tone

    • @Patrick-857
      @Patrick-857 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's how you get the chug. It means the mids (the part you hear the most) are super distorted, but the bass is less distorted, and the very low bass that flubs out your amp is rolled right off. The highs are also less distorted, giving more definition. Then the tone is mid scooped afterwards because metal. The result is the tight thumping chugs, insane amounts of distortion and relatively clear definition of a modern metal tone.

    • @bradhargis2261
      @bradhargis2261 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand how eq works and how amps work. Why not just back the mids off the amp setting so you have less EQ'ing to do? Wouldnt you want to get the best sound up front so you have less processing to do in the signal chain? Just seems counterproductive to do all the stuff hes doing. It sounds great for sure afterwards, so I suppose the ends justify the means. Just seems like theres gotta be an easier way. Lol

      @xRiseAgainstx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure there’s more to it but i watched the live mix and it’s kind of his style to slam something and tweak it after. Also like the Saturn, he slams the drive to 100% then tweaks the volume of it down

    Why not just download the tse tube screamer pedal vst rather than loading the entire tse suite?

    • @antisocialnetworking3856
      @antisocialnetworking3856 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why have multiple guitars instead of just one? Why have multiple instruments that fill up similar frequencies to guitar instead of just guitar? Sure, he only needs the tube screamer here in this specific instance, but there's not really any point to NOT having more options, and they can always come in handy, especially on other projects :P

    • @TheCampbell254bme
      @TheCampbell254bme 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Antisocial Networking not really the same as having two guitars lol it’s a waste of memory running the entire suite instead of the much smaller single pedal. If he was running 3-4 guitar busses it doesn’t make sense to run the full suite on each. Unless as you said he wants the other options...but those other options are: the amp sim (which pales to the fortin by miles), effects which are so-so from tse, and more IRs which he doesn’t need so I don’t really know what other options you’re buying. It’s simply inefficient imo.

      I think he's doing it in parallel, so he has like 50% clean DI, 50% with the pedal, and he doesn't have to do anything else to the signal chain to get that

    • @TheCampbell254bme
      @TheCampbell254bme 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      August Desmond oh really? Didn’t catch that he was trying to use 50% clean...is that common for heavy (using heavy loosely in this context; just not clean/ambient) to run a partially clean signal? I thought people mostly did that for bass guitars?

      @@TheCampbell254bme I know this is 8 months old but, no it's not that common, honestly this is the first time I see someone doing it, I would do the same as you did with the TSE pedal directly on the track instead of the full cab on parallel

    Yesterday I buy Fortin Nameless and trying this chain. But I have so many low at my ditrack. I'm using ltd ec1000 - dibox - pream - audio interface. I have to use the minimum -16db 80-110 Hz on the low range before the amp to have a frequencies image, as yours. Is this normal? Thanks for what you doing and sorry for my English.
