We'll drive out the Empire (and their Black-Briar supporters) from this land that we own. With our blood and our steel we'll take back our home. All hail to Ulfric, you are the High King, and while bullying Maven, we drink and we sing!
I recommend doing this as a double agent by joining the thieves guild. Maven gets screwed over, so she most likely has to pay the guild more for protection. More for the guild, less for her
It took me awhile to go to the alchemy shop she spends most of her time in (most of the time on that level of Riften, I go straight in to the Ratway) and get to know her, but I agree. That cranky alchemist who is her mentor is funny too. I imagine them sitting in that dank building griping about everyone. I don't want to deprive him of his venting buddy!
I like to think that she's using Maven's money for her alchemy supplies so if you do Ingun's quest and she gives you access to her alchemy chest, you're taking more money away from Maven.
Yeah, Ingun helps the Last Dragonborn too much by giving access to the chest. She's twisted and spoiled, but she's also really bubbly. Also, she causes Elgrim to make an Oblivion reference when she wastes his Painted Troll Fat. Once she's done that, how can anyone want her dead?
With all the talk about stealing everything that's nailed down, you're basically saying that I can bring down Maven Black-Briar while profiting off it by selling all of her assets and belongings. Amazing video with a perfect conclusion to bringing down Maven Black-Briar.
There's a lot of notes and letters scattered around Skyrim that could become evidence against Maven and her position, but not a single quest mod was created yet 😅
I only clicked because I like you and your videos very much Master Neloth, I think Maven is very well written and fun as a character. Lady black widow mob boss!
Not necessarily. A tariff isn't really a tax, it's a price or a price raise on customs duties. So any local shipping, storing, checking and clearing, all of those things will have a price added if they don't have one, or have their price drastically increase if they do. Plus, since her goods are made in town and in this region, any tariffs imposed on her would be export tariffs, with no local customers to foot the bill. Any companies or trade partners subject to borders and customs would be able to pay to handle those duty costs, but that is a choice, and if they choose not to do it it will cost Maven more.
14:20 this isnt necessarily true, the high elf steward is the one who directly works with maven. She manipulates leilas decision making, and leila herself seems blissfully unaware of how connected the criminal parties working in riften are. Maven could still easily manipulate leila while living at her home in riften, which is definitely why she goes back there instead of defecting to the blue palace.

Evil people rarely think of themselves as being evil. They believe what they're doing is the best for all concerned. They just don't concern themselves with "all."
Bethesda wants you to believe that Maven's entire honey production for her entire Mead empire is dependent on only 5 bee hives. This is why that entire quest line is not only inconsistent but broken in almost every way.
If one isn't antagonistic about glitches and has no ability to mod, like on Xbox 360, Switch or PS3 one can easily make an enchanted glitch weapon and poison. I prefer stun and week to fire with 35 seconds of burning, or stun poison for 5 billion seconds. Sadly it only stays until you leave the room but its nice to see Maven slide down the Jarls throne and lie there while one self can sit in her throne. Imagine this torture of soul.
This was my first video I’ve seen of yours and I’ve binged almost your entire channel the past two days. I love how knowledgeable you are of the lord and also entertaining as hell. Would love to collab between you and imperial knowledge. I feel as though both of your combined intellect and your humor would be amazing. Hail House Telvani
Yes, everybody hates Maven. Because everybody is so goddamned petty. But believe it or not, Maven is a necessary evil in Skyrim. Skyrim ain't exactly a land full of saints to begin with, but there needs to be some balance between honest work and shady business. And the Thieves Guild owes their very survival thanks to her investments. Makes no difference what her attitude is.
Man, I don't hate Maven but I watched anyway! She's just a character you love to hate, if you know what I mean. She attended on my thieves guild leader ceremony & I even asked her for a help for a distraction on the Thalmor Embassy.
I always make a point of visiting Black-Briar Lodge frequently, to slaughter Maven's hired thugs. I like to imagine that it drives her up the wall that she keeps hiring thugs to do her dirty deeds, and soon after they're hired, they all wind up dead! You have to imagine that after a few rounds of this, word gets around and she has to pay an astronomical fee to hire replacements.
Amazing video, just what i nedded, my last character was an amateur thief living on the outskirts of Riften, she got cought and trown into Jail. But she soon learned that everything had been staged by Maven, as everyone says in game: nothing happens if Riften without Mavens approval. So finding a way to get back to her is cool.
I always wanted to marry her daughter Ingun. She seemed so chill, completely disinterested in her family’s nonsense and just wanting to brew potions. Such a queen.
Considering how much Elgrim's wife worries about the type of stuff Ingun uses in poison making, I doubt she's that chill. At most, she is too fixated on alchemy that she doesn't make business her top priority unless she needs to (whether Maven demands her, or if the family are in actual dire straits)
2 things I'd add or change. 1. Everything you steal from maven you drop in the middle of Riften and burn it. ( If there's a mod that lets items burn and become useless would be great.) Sends a Joker style message to Maven. 2. Get a mod that lets you marry anyone and marry Ingun. After everything you just did to her now you're her son in law and take her daughter away from her.
17:34 Ingun also says something really sus if you ask about the family business. I can’t remember the exact wording but she gave me the feeling she was building her skills so she could make mommy dearest proud by poisoning her enemies.
The fact that her story just kind of Peters out rather than allowing you to take down her entire goofy mafia is easily the worst plot hole in the side stories of Skyrim. Taking her down and replacing her with one of her kids should've been a quest for the Thieves' Guild or Dark Brotherhood. The way she threatens Astrid in one of her letters should've definitely gotten her a kiss from the Night Mother. It's also really annoying that there's no "Destroy the Thieves' Guild" alternative path like you get with the Dark Brotherhood, and have it end with the death or ruination of Maven. I'm also annoyed that "go get this hammer" was Mjoll's quest and not "Let's end crime in Riften." When she becomes Jarl in an Imperial victory, not one Stormcloak goes after her. Why? How?
Since you brought up mods at the ends, allow me to highlight two. Draw - A Dueling Mod and Destroy the Thieves’ Guild are crucial if you want to just end Maven. Not only can you just kill Maven with this because Draw bypasses the essential status, you can also destroy every avenue of power for her. The Thieves’ Guild will not just be dead, you can destroy every single cog in their wretched operation with this mod and leave no members alive at all, while still getting to access to faction specific loot.
Ooh, this will be perfect for Banking Mod. To put it simply, I use Smeltdown, which allows me to smeltdown the vanilla armors, utensils and plates into ingots and firewood. I then use my private Banking mod which then allows me to convert those ingots into equal value septims.
I always go to for Imperial Legions as my faction, but one thing that I hate is when Maven became the goddamn Jarl, I just want that merchant union leader to become the Jarl. Can't get some good shit for the Empire too
It may not sound impressive to someone else or you, who is reading this but master neloth/the mastermind behind him used the word stagnate. This is not only highly attractive and impressive but it is to me specifically, as I have gone 6 years knowing this word and I, until this day have never met anyone who knew what it meant, let alone used it properly. My hat is off to you, my very good sir! Thank you for keeping my faith in people alive.
The heart breaker mod adds a finishing move you can use on crawling targets. You pick them up and rip their heart out, same animation as ripping the heart stone out of the chest of that one chick on Solsteim. It also has a setting you can enable that lets you use it on essential npcs. You can quite literally rip her heart out.
I absolutely love this and will be incorporating this into my characters story. I want to do the theives guild and dark brotherhood quests, but I was struggling to find a reason for my character to want to you have just showed me that reason. All of it is to fuck over Maven and provide cheaper higher quality booze to all of skyrim.
Don't forget once you're finished that you will intentionally die fighting Alduin or Miraak which will allow them to either end or subjugate all of Nirn which will harm the Maven's business.

I recommend doing this as a double agent by joining the thieves guild. Maven gets screwed over, so she most likely has to pay the guild more for protection. More for the guild, less for her
Nah I can't kill Ingun. I like her psycho tendencies and she's the only member of the Black Briar clan that's actually a nice person.
I got the High King mod to kill Maven and to place Mjol as the new Jarl and killed/ sentence the Black-Brair family to hard labor.
It felt so good. ;)
I only clicked because I like you and your videos very much Master Neloth, I think Maven is very well written and fun as a character. Lady black widow mob boss!
I clicked cause maven is hot.
ok the civil war integration was really clever
If Ulfric imposes tariffs on Maven it's the people of Windhelm who has to pay.
1:34 not with that attitude
Beat me to it lmao
💀
Thanks for keeping me interested in skyrim after all these years. Cheers for more to come🍻
I couldn't stop watching. I had to see where you were going with it all. Another fun-ass video, Neloth!
This is the type of content I want. Give me more
14:20 this isnt necessarily true, the high elf steward is the one who directly works with maven. She manipulates leilas decision making, and leila herself seems blissfully unaware of how connected the criminal parties working in riften are. Maven could still easily manipulate leila while living at her home in riften, which is definitely why she goes back there instead of defecting to the blue palace.
Watching Master Neloth’s videos makes me patriotic for a world I don’t live in. The way he speaks and how he speaks makes me want to play more Elder Scrolls games and roleplay more. Bravo dude, you made me a happy man 😎
As for Maeven, yeah she’s the worst haha
Do the Silver Bloods in Markarth next. :D
Everytime you said “take everything that isn’t bolted/nailed down” it killed me lol
Player: acts more evil than Maven and thinks they're morally superior
What? No, no, you misunderstand. She was rude. We’re not morally superior, we’re just way, way pettier than she is.
Evil people rarely think of themselves as being evil. They believe what they're doing is the best for all concerned. They just don't concern themselves with "all."
I could see Maven congratulating you after breaking her spirit, and asking if she could be one of your minions.
@@ldcraig2006Everybody thinks they're the hero.
I LIKE Maven. She fits the shitty world so well, and is one of the few people who thrives.
…love the video
I heard that Wilhelm really appreciates it when you deliver said mead. So much so it makes him scream with joy
...
Master Neloth manipulates skyrim like palpatine did the Starwars Galaxy
"Aight, now we get to the evil part"
17:55 we don't have any openings available, but she has a brand new one right there
I always make a point of visiting Black-Briar Lodge frequently, to slaughter Maven's hired thugs. I like to imagine that it drives her up the wall that she keeps hiring thugs to do her dirty deeds, and soon after they're hired, they all wind up dead! You have to imagine that after a few rounds of this, word gets around and she has to pay an astronomical fee to hire replacements.
Can you do Thonar Silver-Blood next? I despise him and his family just as much as Maven.
Another creative video!
this is now my new quest line for my return to skyrim!
0:11 yes sir
She is actually pretty good ally if you are doing both The Dark Brotherhood, and The Thieves Guild storylines.
I downloaded a mod that allows me to kill essentials. It breaks certain stories but to be rid of the Black-Briar, it’s worth it.
Very entertaining video. Nice work, man!
Great video, Neloth. House Telvanni would be proud. Keep up the great work :)
There's nothing I want more than to kill Maven but Godd Howard has forbidden it😔
I always wanted to marry her daughter Ingun. She seemed so chill, completely disinterested in her family’s nonsense and just wanting to brew potions. Such a queen.
Ask her why she likes poison. She just likes to see people suffer after she poisons them. Really chill. 🤔
@ “when you tell the Dragonborn you like to see people suffer but really you’re just a chill guy who likes to be around giant toes”
Considering how much Elgrim's wife worries about the type of stuff Ingun uses in poison making, I doubt she's that chill.
At most, she is too fixated on alchemy that she doesn't make business her top priority unless she needs to (whether Maven demands her, or if the family are in actual dire straits)
Same
This is a great video. Well done!
YES MASTER HAS GRACED US WITH ANOTHER VIDEO
2 things I'd add or change. 1. Everything you steal from maven you drop in the middle of Riften and burn it. ( If there's a mod that lets items burn and become useless would be great.) Sends a Joker style message to Maven. 2. Get a mod that lets you marry anyone and marry Ingun. After everything you just did to her now you're her son in law and take her daughter away from her.
17:34 Ingun also says something really sus if you ask about the family business. I can’t remember the exact wording but she gave me the feeling she was building her skills so she could make mommy dearest proud by poisoning her enemies.
So what mod is it that you (and fudgemuppet) used for the animations during the cinematic?
Whats this? I LOVE IT.
I have never clicked faster on a video in my recommended in my life lol
The fact that her story just kind of Peters out rather than allowing you to take down her entire goofy mafia is easily the worst plot hole in the side stories of Skyrim.
Taking her down and replacing her with one of her kids should've been a quest for the Thieves' Guild or Dark Brotherhood. The way she threatens Astrid in one of her letters should've definitely gotten her a kiss from the Night Mother.
It's also really annoying that there's no "Destroy the Thieves' Guild" alternative path like you get with the Dark Brotherhood, and have it end with the death or ruination of Maven.
I'm also annoyed that "go get this hammer" was Mjoll's quest and not "Let's end crime in Riften."
When she becomes Jarl in an Imperial victory, not one Stormcloak goes after her. Why?
Lol did you pickpocket all the armor off this guard walking up behind Maven? 11:11 😂
What mods did you use for camera work?
This is incredibly specific and petty and I love it!
I always go to for Imperial Legions as my faction, but one thing that I hate is when Maven became the goddamn Jarl, I just want that merchant union leader to become the Jarl.
Can't get some good shit for the Empire too
I love this, I might actually do this
my dream for a decade has been to soul trap her and send her to the Ideal Masters with Molag Bal's mace
Didn't think I'd find master neloth on TH-cam now I'm invested
It may not sound impressive to someone else or you, who is reading this but master neloth/the mastermind behind him used the word stagnate. This is not only highly attractive and impressive but it is to me specifically, as I have gone 6 years knowing this word and I, until this day have never met anyone who knew what it meant, let alone used it properly. My hat is off to you, my very good sir! Thank you for keeping my faith in people alive.
But you didn’t mention the expertise of the thieves guild! How am I suppose to know what it is? XD
Finally a worthy video in my recommended
Now we need to see a “How to Destroy the Silver-Bloods” video.
I dig that even though Mechanically this doesn’t change much, it’s steeped in some excellent RP opportunities.
I'd love to see more videos about skyrim from the standpoint of ruining a specific character's life in the most sadistic and psychotic way possible.
Great Video !
All of it is to fuck over Maven and provide cheaper higher quality booze to all of skyrim.
what over a decade without a new elder scrolls does to a man:
This is peak Telvanni pettiness, I am all for it.
