Wow I started to do the same thing and found your comment, thanks. I don't have the missing ones though :'(
Don't put your comment on "read more", so people can see it more easily. :)
Thanks! I finished the list and started with the list so people can see it easier. :)
Thanks for this good work !

Confess: It's not the first time you've come here to see Greg. And it won't be the last.
Of the over 2 million views this video has, I’m probably responsible for AT LEAST 100 of those views.
Forgive me father
Guilty
😏🥺😂
I hereby confess
This video is one of the great treasures of the internet
This man is one of the treasures of this world 🌎
i bought my first keyboard 2 years ago because of this video.
Absolutely!!
💯
Yes it sure is!!
2023 and I’m here again watching this “rerun” for probably my 56th time.
Thank Greg.
what he said!!!!
@@ContentScientist and now you made it my 57th time watching Greg and why is the 57th time still as good as the first? (or firth as Genesis would say...) - I guess Greg is just that good (and then some), I think I'm finally getting a copy of Keyscape this year. Make my Omnisphere collection complete.
Only 56 th ?
Greg Philinganes might just be the most underrated artist on this planet.
Session musicians are among the 0,01% natural talents who can deliver 100% quality every time again. They are worth their weight in diamonds.
Not True, you haven't been on the church scene, have you? I beg to differ 😉
@@zzzddd7 Lol Yeah some church cats scary. Greg is an absolute monster! Started at 2 and he remembers everything he played eons ago!
Underrated? What on earth are you talking about Hahahaha? The man has worked with some of the best artists in the world across multiple genres of music. He's a legend in the music industry and incredibly well known.
@@surgicalglitch3265 Underrated by the general public, most of whom have never heard of him. Of course he's famous among musicians and producers, but ask the man or woman in the street who Greg Philinganes is, and they won't know. That's what I meant.
@@jacquesmertens3369 Thanks for clarifying. I know I sound like a ni-picky asshole. It's just the word and definition of 'underrated' that doesn't sit well with me personally. "Not rated or valued highly enough". I get what you're trying to say though now, his contributions to music are not as well noticed as an 'industry face' like say a DJ Kahlid, Drake or Elish type? Who is known the world over by label pushing, and seen as the face of the music. Like some sort of musical divinity that's born with 'the gift' that mere mortals cannot weald. Creating smash hits with their bare hands from the ground up!... Then reality kicks in and they are pumped up by labels and have almost unlimited help from industry geniuses like Greg Philinganes.
He was the keyboardist for Michael Jackson and so many other great artists. Much respect for this muscian!!
Most of those songs he played in the studio or toured with the act. This guy is a national treasure!💯💯💯
He recently toured with Toto for several years especially as David Paiche was phased out, seeing him is such a privilege.
He also wrote the bridge part for "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and MJ would not credit him royalties for it :(
also tour with david gilmour in 2016, and with john mayer right now
He was also recording and songwriting with Earth, Wind & Fire on their ‘Raise’ album
Sometimes I hear people talk about someone being so good they make them wanna quit playing their instrument, cuz they realize how bad they are or something. I’m a guitarist and love to play a little piano and bass on the side, but videos like these and people like him motivate me so much to spend every minute of my day learning and playing piano (or any other instrument I’d see or hear someone play real good)
does anybody else watch this a few times a week? no, just me? haha.
I am too. I Love it to see him Play. ( Sorry for my bad English )
Yep... and I'd love to see more.
Me too 😊
I like the intro to man in the mirror...also the warm el piano sound whereever. feels emotional always.
so what do you think? does keyscape sound better than for example most of kontakt libraries? by default ( I understand that there is the thing called mixing, but still)
LOL...I do!
If you want your software to sell like hot cakes this is the man to hire
if you want anything that has to do with keyboards to sell this is the man to hire.
@@rillloudmother Or even records.
@@jaggass records have something to do with keyboards if phillinganes is on it, don't they?
@@rillloudmother Absolutely.
shut gay
From this guy's resume, it's clear I've been basically listening to him without even knowing it. What a seriously cool dude.
Heh heh, yep, he's a little older than he looks, and he's been around for a day or 2 in the music biz.😁
There ain't a Grammy album he hasn't been on or served as an inspiration for in 35+ years.
Lol, definitely...and since the 70s.
I thought the same too after this lol
Imagine not reading liner notes...
5 years ago, and when i'm depressed i'm still coming to watch this video and things instantly get better
A true studio musician - knows every single note and chord change, but doesn't really know the lyrics :)
Seriously though, this was a joy to watch. I love how he uses voicings and dynamics. That's why everyone wants him in their recording sessions!
elsongs i agree with you bro!
Yeah it helps when he session in studio or on tour with some of the artist he play in this video
As someone who has gone through life knowing all the notes/chords but only a few lyrics, I can totally relate to this joke :)
Though he's appeared on countless recordings throughout the 70s and 80s, Greg is perhaps one of the most unsung studio musicians
@@William_sJazzLoft Hard to say. He has been the M.D. for so many groups. Last time I got to see him on stage, he was M.D.'ing (and playing in) Stevie Wonder's band on their "Songs In The Key Of Life" tour. He may not be a household name for non-musicians, but I don't think he's unsung.
These are the best keyboard sounds I ever heard.
I've literally seen this video at least for a 100 in the past 3 years.....
I think one of the most impressive things besides his incredible playing, is his ability to keep perfect time without a drum kit or metronome. It shows his experience playing in bands. It's a lot harder than it seems.
I love how Greg’s personality and sense of humor is shining here 😂 he seems like a cool dude to hang out with in the studio
He would hang out with the Jacksons all the time. He even used to call Katherine as Mom!
Thumbs up if you would go to a Greg Phillinganes solo concert!
1. I'm an MJ fan..
2. I'm a musician.
3. Greg is amazing😂😂😂😂😂😂💖✨
Yes Yes!!
Yes
dude made Lazy Nina so yeah
I'd pay serious money.
Greg's talent got him into all of those amazing sessions. His PERSONALITY is why he kept getting called back! 100% talent 1000% great vibes!
OMG GREG IS THE REAL DEAL....PLAYING THESE CLASSICS WARMS MY HEART.....I REMEMBER THESE SONGS GROWING UP...I AM 54 YEARS OLD....BUT PLAYING IS SUPERB....THESE KEYSCAPE PATCHES SOUND SENSATIONAL.
It amazes me how Mr. Phillinganes musical contributions just exceed that of many modern-day artists in terms of creativity, genre, and skill. 24K Magic by Bruno Mars, Kanye West Life of Pablo, Adele 25. Well over 1,700 musical contributions to major artists from composing to instrumental work. Truly a master of his craft.
I had no idea he played on TLOP, that's incredible! I'm a big fan of Kanye and most of the artists whose hits he played here (Steely Dan, Stevie, EWF, Genesis, Supertramp, MJ, Doobies, Prince, Toto, Ray, Bill Withers/Grover Washington Jr, Pointer Sisters, etc) and had no idea the two had any crossover. He really is a virtuoso
Holy shit all of my favorite music is Just Greg!
I just smiled for 13 minutes and 46 seconds. Thanks.
I know right? I wondered why my face felt a bit strained then I realized I'd had my mouth stretched into a smile for that long! :)
nancydrew5 hahaha
Dadrian Wilson So did I! Amazing!
Same!
This video cures depression
this guy exudes musicality
My favourite Keyboard Player EVER!!!
He played on all of the records I love - Bless this man forever!!!
this is essentially a masterclass in e-piano groove playing
when that man in the mirror intro came on, really gave me goosebumps. tone is IDENTICAL to whats on the album. really made me like the song all over again. imho, bad is my fave MJ album of all time
Greg and Eric worked together on the original song….in fact, that’s where they met…working w/MJ 😁🙌
I got shivers when he played Al Jarreau, what a legend!
Please just make a 2 hour version of Greg playing through 80's hits.
It would be on repeat for weeks in my office :-D
Thanks a lot for sharing and for creating amazing instruments!
second that :)
Thomas Finn I third that!
He can get you through the worst day of your life.
He did say "it could get really expensive". But I'd gladly support if crowdfunded :-)
AGREE!!
“Contusion” is such an incredible song.
I am listening to this through my IEM's i can hear and feel the low end notes from Keyscape. Dear Lord thank you for blessing artist to create brilliant music.
I play that on the original record, because at the time, Stevie Couldn’t! Greg is Sick.
haaaaahh..hahahaha
Priceless 😂
Yes!! I laughed 😂so loudly! 😊✨
Why are there any thumbs down here? Those people must be out of their minds! This is a Modern Master playing some of the best R&B, Soul and Pop music ever recorded... The hair stood up on my arms when he started to play Stevie Wonder... I was instantly transported to Stevie's recording session. This is so beautiful - if only you knew... :)
ppl that can't afford this majestiv VST...
@@Dave_The_Beatmaker for those low on funds, there's the yarr har way
Probably the competition😂
Those first three notes to Superwoman with the warm vibrato of the Rhodes . . funny what he said about Contusion and Stevie.
When he hit that riff at the end of Rosanna, I literally fell out of my bed🔥🔥
Imagine waking up in the morning and being able to play anything you wanted like GP! And not just play it but make it sound good. What a talent.
man in the mirror sounds so good because basically he is the guy who originally recorded the song
Yes. In fact Greg and Eric worked on it together!
He played that song live night after night during the Bad and Dangerous tours too.
The left hand is like his band mate as a bass player! Incredible! 🙌💯
Greg is one of the most underrated musicians I know.....Wow, what a great artist and musician!
Back in the 90's, I bought a used Roland D-50 for my son to play on. The sounds on that synth blew me away, especially after listening to other synths. It was so unique I figured there had to be one person responsible. I decided to do some research and find out who at Roland did it. After a couple weeks of searching, I found it was a guy named Eric Persing, I remembered the name but didn't hear it again till a couple years ago..
Now he heads up Spectrasonics and has this Keyscape product. Because of these Keyscape videos there's a few more names I wont forget: Greg Phillinganes, Cory Henry and Shaun Martin.
I think you just sold me on Keyscape!
Hi, can you tell me witch model of keyboard is on this video please ? Thank you.
Wurli Greg was using a Roland A-88 Key Keyboard and is somewhere around $750 I think
@@onionhat9141 great, thank you for answer me. It's been a long time i asked myself about that. 🙏
Wurli yea, sorry for being 3 weeks late 😅 if you check in the description too you’ll see that they talk about what keyboard they use. Yea I was trying to find out what keyboard it was too lol
Watching this with my wife. We are singing along with the songs, guessing which song he plays!! This is by far the best video of Keyscape so far. But GOD I MISS GEORGE DUKE!!! Sure he is smiling from above to his great friend Greg Phillinganes.
Thriller Miller?? Is that you/ Is that really you?
$1 Duke is jamming with Blackman
When I miss George I listen to thundercat and its all good.
I've revisited this at least 4 times a year for the past 4 years. I would happily pay to watch Greg solo in a theatre just remembering bits of songs, this is so much fun 😍
As a keyboardist/songwriter, I just love this guys genious. As a humanbeing, I love his personality.
Greg is a musical comedian.....love this...having fun with the music.....i am truly learning something simply watching him play with these patches.
In 13 minutes, this brotha just reminded THE WHOLE WORLD - WHAT (REAL MUSIC) IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE - and what (ACTUAL TALENT) looks like when it's at work. Effortlessly keeping on beat - singing & playing simultaneously (splitting his brain in 4 or 5 directions at once... left hand doing something.... right hand doing something different... singing & remembering every word of a song... feet working the pedals....) and doing it all with no effort at all Damn!! Just PURE TALENT from the higher realms... PERIOD!
He kinda went off with lyrics 😂😂but I agree with everything else you said😅😅
It's not the fact that he plays these songs so well that does it for me, it's the fact that he probably played many of the original songs. DAMN!
That steely Dan sound is so sweet. No one sounded like that.
Dextérité et Groove incroyable , mec d'une simplicité et d'un talent sans égale et qui a joué avec les plus grands.. Michael Jackson , Stevie wonder , toto, Phil Collins ect.. juste génial
That grover Washington bit...... Oooooooohhh weeeee 😍
I just WISH someone would make a documentary about the LA session guys of the late 70's and 80's. There was a handful of guys that were studio legends and created the whole LA session sound. We need to document this
Greg is my favorite keyboardist. He’s the Goat!!
This is the best demo of any sample-based instrument that I've ever seen. Greg P. rules!
Agreed fully!
He is sooo funny come on..the man can play anything as he did on many of the recordings. What a great time the engeneers of Keyscape must have had with him trying out their sounds!! No better ambassador for the firm for sure!!!
It’s 2024 - time for the annual checkup. Test results - video not only stands the test of time but like superb wine just keeps getting better. Each time I watch it seems Eric laughs even harder at Greg’s jokes. Greg, Michael maybe king of pop but you got king of keyboards even with both your hands tied behind Eric’s back….
13.46 minutes of perfection, what a talent.
When you love music...when you love to play....that's the way you do it. Amazing Greg.
I wish this was longer! He is just amazing
Ha! The original version was 25 minutes long! :-)
You could post that. I'll tell you I'd watch it. This stuff makes me want to learn piano. I can't imagine better marketing. This is like the musical equivalent of having Tom Brady win the Super Bowl wearing your cleats.
agreed. I already own Keyscape,
but I relish sitting down to watch these presentations.
Greg makes my day so much better.
How do you like it? As satisfying as it seems?
25 minutes long, COME ON! The people want more looool
This man is a treasure!!
I almost teared up when he started to play Man In The Mirror...My favorite MJ song
Thank you for all the great music that most people {including myself} didn’t know that you played on. You are an absolute legend Greg!
I just wanna hug this guy. He has an amazing positive contagious energy.
1:56 Genesis! I love how he immediately picks out the perfect tune for each setting
Genius* ?
VoltSpeed He was saying the name of the band that made the song he played there
In a weird way I'll grant, but still nonetheless
😂 The vocal impressions are hilarious. Greg's so underrated - especially his solo albums.
The way he looks up is so iconic lol. I recognize him from the mj bad tour. Great energy
I think Greg needs to do a tour of just HIM, playing the hits, like this! I would go!
Greg is the best!!!! Man, I could listen to him jam and goof around all day. This puts such a huge smile on my face! Thank you so much for sharing this! Eric gets to hang out with the coolest people!
Greg's impressions are spot-on too!
Mootboxle - Hey buddy! Yeah, Greg is just awesome on all levels. Can't go wrong having him play the keys on your album or in your band. He has an incredible timing, groove and is super clean - and fast when the music calls for it. And yep: love his impressions - even mumbling the lyrics, it already sounds complete. Greg is just aweseome - and he played with the best of the best!
I had no idea Greg played keyboards on Contusion! That keyboard solo is amazing! True legend!!!
DuhAverageJoe read the liner notes.
Well, they say the best songs have all been written, and Greg must have played on them all. A master of his trade, awesome amazing and just plain down to earth. The late great George Duke surely had to be laughing and smiling at this one.
This man is an absolute genius! Very underrated ..his musical talent was involved in many many hit songs yet he is still a humble and very down to earth human! We has true musicians see you Mr.Greg Phillinganes..Guys like you inspire me every single day! God bless you sir..Elton from South Africa
Forgot one! Fairy Tale by Anita Baker…that amazing piano solo that takes the song to conclusion!
He's one of greatest musicians all time! A trully genius!
I lost count of how many times I've watched this. Seems this video is one of my happy places. Love Greg.
I learned about Greg from his solo on Donald Fagen's cover of Ruby Baby on The Nightfly. Little did I know that that was just the tip of the iceberg. What a talent!!
He also played piano on ''Maxine'' from the same album.
@@IronMan-tk8uc That absolutely insane piano outro run on Maxine is actually why I'm here watching this video now.
@@michaelcaplin8969 👌
What a cool and talented (without the ego) person, love his energy.
From this...Band practice is sooo fun with Mr. Phillinganes
Glad to hear he's a fan of one of my favorite groups, Level 42
Made the mistake of watching this video while the Billboard Music awards were on.
I'm still crying and my heart is sore.
3 years later & I'm binge watching the TV series : "Keyscape Sessions - GREG PHILLINGANES" again. Only wish it got picked up and there would be a whole season and not just a pilot. Still, my favorite show. I'm hooked. Eat your heart out Netfilx !
Amazing!!!! This guy is the REAL DEAL
Greg is the most complete and humoristic keys performer I've ever seen, really capable of singing!!! Total entertainer!!!
Woooo!!!! This is one of the best things ever published to TH-cam!
Agreed!
I could watch Greg play my favorite songs all day!
Man, that's ENTERTAINMENT!!! Greg - not just an absolut hilarious guy and one of the best performers in the industry, he is a great impersonator too! The Michael McDonald phrase - SLICK & SMOOTH! And KEYSCAPE sounds perfect at the point!!! Thumbs up!
What an incredible musician. Musical genius. parody comedian. inspirational.
His rhythm playing is impeccable, that’s what separates him from the myriad of your everyday key bangers, such as myself. He’s off-the-chart good.
I thought Greg was around 40, but when I looked at his Wikipedia and skipped to the selected discography, I was trying to figure out how he could have played on a Stevie Wonder record in '76. Turns out he's 62. What a trip.
Peter Sorensen Guitar Music keeps you young.
@Salim Sivaad *checks replies for this phrase *not dissapointed
ArchenZ it’s not racist idiot
I know right? He looks like he's 40 but when you think about when he got into the industry you realize, MAN he looks so young considering his legacy. The man has made so many contributions to music throughout the years. One of those legendary session players whose name you see on the liner notes on so many legendary records from so many legendary artists.
He started with Stevie Wonder when he was 17 ... He said he had just turned 17 the week before ....
Greg is the man behind so many great hits. First seen him with Eric Clapton in the mid-80's.
We can't get enough of this!
I've watched it at least 50 times!
H McGuire me too
Don't stop till you get enough
Phenomenal and humble man!!...My Good!!....
Lookin at him never gets old
Ha ha!! He's brilliant! His 'Stevie' and 'Ray' are hilarious...! 13:01 just made me smile! And those electric piano sounds... so spot on. Easy to forget how many amazing records this guy played on...
Greg P. One the baddest studio cats around! 😊🙏🏾🙌🏾
Just like a real keyboard player… learns the music perfectly but hardly any of the lyrics
LOL..... You know, I just realized, Greg is so fantastic...... Literally NO ONE is talking about the Keyscape software!!! LOL That is pretty funny!
So True!!! LOL.

I come back to this video every year or so, awesome
I first saw this with Riqué Pantoja and I was blown away. And now with Greg... wow!! My two favorite keyboard players jamming on Keyscape!!
Spectrasonics rules!!
What a talented keyboardist! I have been following him in so many people’s albums and even got a surprise visit by him during an Earl Klugh concert in Japan. Earl was performing with his acoustic band then suddenly towards the end, some musicians after performing at I believe a Clapton concert that night, decided to pay earl a visit. Greg was one of them and Earl and Greg did an impromptu jam session. What a treat that was!! Thanks Greg.
If you think that you don't know Greg Philingaines then think again. He's played on almost every one of your favorite songs!
I’ve replayed this video at least 10 times and it still amazes me everytime , what a legend!!!
When he finished up Rosanna.... man. Made me smile and move and snap my finger lol amazing.
The first time I saw this, I couldn't make a chord on the piano and since then I've practiced eight hours a day on average, I play well enough now to play any song I want learn.
This man is a fucking musical genius. I knew of a lot of his credits, but had never seen him perform. He plays and sings songs he WASN'T in the studio on, as if he WROTE them.
And to be this hilarious? The whole studio must've been laughing in sessions, how'd they ever get songs done?
Thanks for posting this.
Yup! Doing sessions with Greg was ALWAYS hilarious!!
Greg Phillinganes ... the greatest keyboard player that ever was, or will be ... i literally would buy ANY record he plays on ... ANY! :)
100 ways...Just Once..to name others
My girlfriend some years ago played violin in the S. Florida opera. She was of course a great player. She apologized countless times for practicing for hours until I managed to persuade her it was a treat for me to hear her mind at work. Finally she made a point of doing all that heavy lifting at my house prior to a performance. Nothing could make me happier. I miss that about her terribly.
What happiness to hear a great musician explore for their self.
The Most Unheralded Pianists on Planet Earth! No wonder Quincy Jones memorized Greg's cell number...lol
