  • According to the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the Chang’e-6 lunar lander has successfully collected lunar samples from the Apollo crater, located in the South Pole-Aitkin impact basin on the far side of the Moon, on 2-3 June 2024. Chang’e-6 used two methods for collecting lunar soil: drilling to collect subsurface samples and grabbing from the surface with a robotic arm.

It is amazing to be able to perform these delicate movements under the drastic temperature fluctuations of nearly 300℃ on the lunar surface. Precise and perfect. Respect.

There are actually A LOT of details in this video, especially the moon soil. Let's hope success return of the spacecraft and bring these samples back!

The scooping marks represent a Chinese character - 中, which means CHINA in short form. Cool idea.

China knows what's up with the cameras. You have to put cameras and lots of them with lots of cool angles and video! It doesn't matter if it's not scientific - for me, these are the coolest moon images since Apollo 11, because it's regular images and video and a lot of different angles.

That is simply incredible. The level of engineering ability is easily the most accomplished. Much respect for your efforts.

This mission is so exciting. We are going to learn so much more about the moon by studying these samples from the far side. Based on recent experiences, I have a lot of confidence they'll be able to get these samples to earth. China has really upped their game in Space technology. Great job so far. Keeping my fingers crossed and good luck!
