    Congratulations on the find!
    I haven't seen cassette decks of that quality in a thrift for at least a year; never that GW location.
    Much appreciate the demonstration.

    I have the DR-M24HX which I bought from Denon directly at a Hifi show in 1988, ex display, it's never been repaired and still works like new, it's the 3 head version with tape tuning controls, it sounds incredible, that cassette tape can sound this good is an achievement, it will squeeze the most from any tape, Denon nailed it with this range.

      Cassettes can sound quite remarkable. If you’ve heard of the electronics TH-camr 12voltvids, he strongly thinks cassettes sound bad but with the right equipment, they can sound almost like the source. Now if only they used type-2 cassettes for prerecorded tapes..

    Sometimes, the electronics cleaner works better than deoxit. This is a mid range model in the DR-M range. It's still a very good deck, though. Nice find.

    I would strongly recommend to use deoxit inside pots and switches. Sparing on top has no results. Also, at this age capstan and motor bearings needs lubrication.

      When I got this unit all of the pots were fairly clean and it was kept in a good environment, so I felt that there was no need for spraying deoxit. All of the tape decks I have ever repaired never had any motor lubrication/bearing issues (except for one shoe-box recorder) so that isn’t one of the biggest problems with these.

    This was really useful. I hope the paper towel isn't too abrasive to the heads. Is a head cleaner cassette a good idea or no?

      You can use a cassette head cleaner, but if the paper towel has rubbing alcohol on it, you should be fine applying it to the tape head. I actually prefer cleaning this way because it does a better job and less expensive because it doesn’t require you to get a vintage cassette cleaner.

    Hello,
    I got the exact same model recently, but my cassete were playing at high speed even at the lowest pitch control that I could turn. Does that mean something else need to be replaced? The belt is too tight?

    • @davistech
      @davistech  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the capstan is not engaging, or the power supply rails aren’t the right voltage.

      @@davistech hmm, so do i need to replace the capstan belt? the pinch roller? i dont know how to deal with the voltage issue though

    Did the Rubber Restore get on the correct side of the belt? The pulley side is the important side.

    • @davistech
      @davistech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I put the rubber restore on both of the sides and then clean it with a Q-tip, so yes. Thanks for the question!

    Windex on plastic? NOOOOOOO!

      I've been using Windex on plastic for years, and have never had a problem, but there may still be better ways of doing it.
