We going to have a look at this gloriously 80s cassette deck. Just the thing to play all your old tapes from the eighties. It needs a bit of fixing, of course, but nothing a bit of grease and a few belts can't fix...
We'll be listening to vintage hifi sounds of analog audio on magnetic media in no time! As soon as we figure out what is wrong with the drawer loading mechanism.
The model is a Sony TC-V7 Cassette Deck, and it was designed to go with the V7 hifi system, also featured briefly in the video, complete with tray loading record player/turntable and one of the very first CD players Sony ever produced!
Enjoy this foray into retro hifi - more to come, so stay tuned!!

Reminds me of the mechanism in the Sony SL-HF750 Betamax. I have similar larger silver Sony components from 1983, all the belts were bad and difficult to replace in those cassette decks too.

I bought one exactly like this, a couple years ago when I was wee enough that the 50 bones I'd paid were a big deal. I stumbled into exactly each and every one of your issues - except that I didn't, like you have, figure out the stiff cog, so I left it at my handyman uncle's house to get fixed.
    Never saw it again.
Apparently his son accidentally bundled it with a bunch of stuff that was heading to the dumpster.
I've since bought a Denon DR-F7. But I did get the system's amplifier as a sort of comeback.
Both are 100V since they come from Japan. I'll need to figure out replacing both their transformers with an old PC's power supply. Wish me luck.

I just loved everything about the Sony design aesthetic of the 80s it really was a head and shoulders above most other companies in terms of pushing the design and had very futuristic looking designs. This system reminds me of the Sony profeel component TV system for some reason.
You live a very charmed life to be able to get hold of equipment in such perfect condition, boxed and with instructions - normally the membranes deteriorate or are a badly damaged.
I tried looking for the cassette deck in the UK and what I found was an ugly mess😢
(Any chance you could turn the backing track down a little bit for future videos. The bass on this particular video was a little bit intrusive)
Keep up the great content 👍😎

hi, I have 2 of them and bought a pair belt kit,s it has 5 belts in it and i've changed 4, for the love of god I can't find where the 5th one goes but I know it goes to the light sensor, I stripped the top part of the tray and took out the plastic, if I press play it plays for a second or 2 before stopping but if I shine a torch in it contimues playing, any help you could give would be a godsend, by the way that leaf switch underneath the deck is a nightmare, any help would be appreciated, i've checked the service manual and still can't see where the belt goes

    • @TheBasementChannel
      @TheBasementChannel  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for reaching out! I had the exact same question about the extra belt and I even emailed the supplier about it, but no response. I came to the conclusion it’s unneeded and it’s joined my rubber belt collection.
I also got caught out by the light sensor, and I figured out when you are testing the tape transport, the silver cover is still off and the sensor needs the silver cover to work. It should play fine once all back together and the silver plate is back in place.
Great work on scoring two of these! You must have more patience than I 😂

I don’t think the CD player was technically part of the system, or it would have had a V5 designation in the model name. And while it looks similar to the rest of the system there’s a few design differences.

    As I before mentioned,
the Player ist functional, thé Tape working well , Rew and forward working well too
I can't no find why this noise is coming only by charging cassette inside the device.

The design and idea of a tray is awesome. but bending this high amount of cables with every open/close seems to be a compromise to make it happen. I stay with the way to lock every cable in place and avoid every movement. the solder joints, connectors and cables itself will thank you.
