I have been a insulin dependent diabetic since I was 13 years old. Having diabetes for 54 years I seen so much technology with treatment of this condition. When diagnosed the way to keep track of your glucose was by testing your urine for glucose. Which was hard to control the condition. I love my pump it helps me maintain by my glucose and A1C.
And a urine glucose test strip, although cheap, cannot detect low blood glucose. My husband's had hypoglycemic unawareness since diagnosis in May, 1978. He had so many low episodes and convulsions over that 45 year period. We didn't even get prescribed a glucagon kit until about 1998!!! I don't think the endos ever took a real history or they would have known how bad these lows were.
Ive been on my 780g for almost a month and i have to say i love it. My blood sugar is levels are running so level most of the time. Plus, I almost never have to test my blood anymore. Virtually no more alarms on my pump and I can finally get a full night's sleep without out my pump yelling at me, bg required, minimum delivery.
780G is fine Guardian sensor not ok, should retire after so many years Its time for Simplera to come on stage and make it more convenient and easier when changing sensors. GS are horrible compared to other CGM
When I started using Medtronic years ago, I was 15% TIR and yesterday I was 92% on track and I didn’t even have my settings dialed in yet. Thank you for saving my life with the incredible advancements. You are my hero. ❤
Just got My daughter's,very excited about this 780g and seeing what it can do.The other pumps used a separate CGM and that worried me a little bit but thankfully her Endocrinologist recommended this unit.She just got off a year study for Affreza an inhaled insulin and that made a huge difference but still had to do Lantus at night which burns for her.This 780g hopefully will be a game changer.We go to the JDRF functions here in Vegas everytime they have them and after taking to all the different groups there i was sold on Medtronic.Thankfully insurance covers it.Inpen is awesome but still have to make sure you pay attention and make sure it registered as a prime or dose.
Very useful information. I was particularly struck by the recommendation to adjust active insulin time to two hours. The reason for this was clearly stated by the guest. I think I learned as much useful information about the 780G, if not more, from this interview as I did from Medtronic's own videos.
That's well known. I've been doing setting active insulin time at 2 h. for years. It was obvious that you had to get the insulin correction happening faster. The stuff about auto correction happening faster & stronger if the algorithm detects that the bg is rising more rapidly so it thinks you must have eaten something was new to me. My husband, the pump user often goes low in the middle of the night (around midnight) and then, has a rise toward dawn as if he's eaten something when he hasn't. I noticed that Auto Correct was stronger then and now, I know why.
my biggest problem with the guardian 4 transmitter is that it is bulky and can show through clothing and also breaks my skin. The adhesive tapes are not hypoallergenic enough as it can cause blisters which is very painful. this being said I love my 780G and the extended infusion set. Very informative video. Excellent Medtronic support in the UK.
You don't have hypoglycemic unawareness, I guess or you wouldn't trust a DIY system. I think the DIY system is probably a good one for people good with technology and without hypoiglycemic unawareness @@diabe_tech
I can tell Medtronic what would help 1. Ditch their guardian sensor align with Dexcom 2. Make the pumps smaller and less bulky 3. Make a tubeless pump, people are over tubed pumps

One question, Justin: Could you ask this Medtronic Diabetes engineer if having the basal set at .2 or 1.0 makes any difference if you are in Safe Guard. Thank you. I'm glad to hear that Medtronic supports me in setting the AIT at 2 h. even though the bolus insulin is active for at least 3 h. (I use Fiasp. It works fine.) I'm going to try the 7 day infusion set though. We always get a high bg level when we change the set and it can last for hours so a 7 day set would eliminate that high bg period once or twice in 7 days.
My experience with Medtronic? Well until I got their CGM it was fine but after I am counting the days on my existing pump warranty until I can switch to ANYTHING else.

We need to use the pump interface, and this is a little crap when you have a little kid to supervise when sleeping. and this is quite simple to implement....
Hi, could you please ask why my son 's minimed 780g insulin Pump is decreasing amount of required insulin for breakfast 70%? And his Bg/SG rises up to 300 and he spends nearly 3 hours out of range above 200. It happens because of negative adjustment by pump/smartguard. Please ask him how to solve this problem?
@@karendewees-mc9rt finally we have solved the problem. You need just follow up with the pump recommendation and not to play with IC rate of pump. Eat carb amount which allowed by pump without negative adjustment, for completion missing part of your meal add more protein and fat to your dish 😉. All be OK. Is there anybody who will ask medtronic team to provide a virtual assistant for its app? Which will help users with such and same problems?
I've been type 1 for 65 years with an A1c, last month, of 5.9. I now have upgraded to the 780G with S.Guard and it reduces each and every bolus as well, no matter what my glucose is. My BG has been horrible with the SGuard & Guardian 4 sensors. Meal boluses do not effectively auto-correct, either. Oddly enogh though, at night the system works incredibly well for me. All night long it remains around 103-120mg/dl. If I can get the daytime meal boluses back like they were before I'm certain my TIR would be much better. Though disappointing, I'm pretty sure someone out there (Medtronic of otherwise) has a fix. We can't be the only ones experiencing this?

Although it seems it improved or even disappeared with some changes of the settings I did recently and with the move to Lyumjev. Try at least - using the 2 hour active insulin time and decreasing the carb ratio.
You spoke about something called DIY Looper...you said that's what you were using, not FDA approved. So exactly what is that? And why does it offer more flexibility? Thanks, good talk with Medtronic.
I just got the 780g delivered today. It better work like magic because they charged my insurance company $11,500 just for the pump. The sensor and accessories got the bill up to $15,000. What is it in this pump and sensor that makes it cost as much as a brand new motorcycle shipped over from Japan? I sure do not see this thing having 15K worth of parts in it unless the internals are made of gold.
I wish Medtronic would spend some R&D on developing a different adhesive for their infusion sets and sensors. A high percentage of people have become sensitized to these acrylate adhesives. Two companies have changed their formulations of their adhesives because of these problems. Medtronic has not prioritized this. No matter how good an algorithm is, if the physical device that provides the required data cannot be collected due to bleeding rashes and skin infection, the technology is irrelevant. For those folks who have been sensitized, Skin Grip sells shields that can provide some relief but it is an added cost and extra step that does not always work.
I've been on the 780 for a couple months and I'm not really impressed. I spend most of my time in manual mode. My sensor randomly says I'm dangerously low when I'm actually not, and it does this a lot. If I were in auto mode and it suspended my basal for two hours because it was falsely reading low, that would be really bad. The other day, the sensor read in the 50s but my meter said 150. And now there's a sensor shortage so my replacement sensors are backordered for God only knows how long. Thank God I have an alert dog. When the sensor is working, the meal bolus in auto mode is horrible. It always suspends my basal after a meal, sometimes as long as 45 minutes, and then my sugar hits 300. I'll give it a few hours to see if auto corrections will bring it down and it never does. However when I bolus in manual mode 20 min before eating, there's a very minimal spike. I ate pizza for lunch today and the highest I hit was 120. It's been a very disappointing and frustrating experience with the sensors not working and auto mode letting me run so high.
I don't understand ppl talking about ppl changing infusion sets 2-3 days been on paradigm pumps and infusion sets and reservoirs. 19 yrs still on 523 paradigm 9 yrs old was given about 8 yrs worth of reservoirs and infusion sets for it by other family's that had a member using them. I have from day one used products for 7 - ,10 days with no problems no infections I use prep swabs and use till I noticed insulin isn't absorbing good. My A1C runs 6.2. I don't see what all the hoopla is about must be follow the money
Some people will notice that the site doesn't absorb well after 2.5 days and have to change the set. I don't go beyond 4 days with my sets and quite often have to change them before 4 days. I had to change one set after about 18 h. That's very rare though. The site just refused to absorb insulin. The pump kept saying "insulin flow blocked" as well. I think I've only had 2 sets that failed in less than 2 days in 21 years 10 months of pumping. I did hit a blood vessel a couple of times though.

Anyone have information on how using the pump device itself is to bolus and make corrections? having to access the pump itself while riding my bicycle at 40mph is a problem. I would like someone to ask the 'Big Companies' that develop these devices and algorithms, "Why aren't you collaborating with other developers and the 'Loopers' and DIY system users to produce the best of the best closed loop systems"? Competition isn't always the best thing for those managing Type 1 although I'm sure it makes more money for the likes of Medtronic and Tandem. How about some collaboration and sharing of knowledge and information for the good of mankind?
This system will give you the best outcomes, he said. Now a month ago I defected from Medtronic after 15 years. No one I spoke to at Medtronic mentioned the 780’s debut was imminent, and the software could be installed on a 770. All conversation was to upgrade to 770 or keep my 630 for another year. Now why was that? It’s older technology and not integrated with their sensor. Please add a chapter on the 780 sensor. The Medtronic sensor drove me away from Medtronic.
For a while, the Guardian 3 sensor would need to be recharged after 3 or 4 days. It never lasted the full 7 days with the 670 G. Now, it does with the 780 G. I don't know if Medtronic just improved the sensors or if the Guardian 3 sensors work better with the 780 G than with the 670 G. The last sensor I had installed was 2 weeks past the expiry date and it still worked till the end of day 7 and we had a period of very high bg (15.0 [270]) as well so I thought it would fail early, but it didn't.
I'm watching FBI reruns, can u summarize for me? I have the Medtronic 770. There's a software upgrade but you don't get a new pump? Do you automatically get the new CGM sensor or is that a separate issue etc as far as will your insurance pay for it now or not? Does it make sense to switch to the newest Dexcom or wait for the Omnipod imitation thing from the company Medtronic bought???
The pump is a no brainer. What are the sensors like? I had an earlier version of, the CGM and they were awful. They lost connection with the pump at least 3 times a night with the pump going NUTS and at least 3 times in the middle of the day. They also had AI built in, guaranteed at the worst time the CGM would go off, in a meeting with the customer at funerals and the list goes on. For $20 a month I can get the Guardian 4 CGM, I don't know if I want them. I have the 640g and I love it. and I have to get the 780 (free upgrade) At least I get to keep my 640!
Guardian sensor inserting is horrible, really need to improve its inserting method. Please have Guardian Sensor replaced asap, its way behind Im waiting for the Simplera
In fact I don’t think if I had the choice today I would make the same decision. I have worn Medtronic pumps for over 30 years, and still like the pump.
That could be a sign of heart damage. My husband had a brief low spell a day ago after lifting a heavy lawn object to put it away for the winter. He didn't put his pump in temp target before doing that work. He didn't lose consciousness, but lay down for a couple of minutes and recovered quickly. His cgms said he was about 7.0 so the weak spell could have been caused by low bp as well. I was away for a dentist appointment or I would have tested his bg and treated the low. It scared him, but no other damage done. My husband had a stent put in 2 years 5 months ago. He is on some heart medication so that could cause low bp, I guess, when he was working hard.
I have a 770 g. Total junk. Went back to the paradigm 523. Hope it lasts awhile it's already 9 yrs old best pump ever I'm not trusting my life to something that says my bgs are 134 when it's 407. Total junk Medtronic is on the path to being a bud light company Medtronic would be wise to go back to basic paradigm 500 s models ! I'll go back to syringes before I use the trash being made now !!
Unfortunately Medtronic's blood glucose monitor sucks. It's very slow and not very accurate and It's like a harpoon that you stick into yourself. This would have been the perfect insulin pump If they partnered with Dexcom.
Why does he keep saying "we're working on technology" to do that?? Other pumps already have the "technology" and pump control through a phone app, watch app? Other pumps can software "update" their pumps via direct software download to the pump. They sound like Apple following Samsung..
Some times they sell the rights to other companies though. Medtronic bought the rights to one infusion set because it was so popular and put their own attachment on it so it will work with their infusion set.
After trying the sensor for 2 weeks, I have stopped using it. Everyone, all you have to do is use the bolus wizard and test your sugar more often. I do 4 times a day; before each meal and an hour before bedtime. My A1C has been below 6 for the last 20 years. That is as far back as the history goes. You just have to figure out the correct numbers. I have the same basal rate all the time. My carb ratio is 1 unit for 10 carbs. Basal is 1.8 per hour. Correction is 1 unit of humalog = 25 blood sugar points. The sensor takes too long to correct. You can do better yourself. Oh also, the tape caused a lot of pain on the back of my arm. If you use the sensor, you will constantly be worrying about the numbers. That's my opinion anyway.

i'm getting the 780g this week and it costs 82.000 turkish liras here... plus monthly 4500 turkish liras for the set and cgms.
Price is mostly determined by usefulness/utility/value for the buyer, not by the cost of parts.
In finland 5700€ and accessories about 500€ per month+insulin on top of that. They clearly screwed your insurance company.

Unfortunately I can't use the phone app, because it refuses to run with developer mode enabled - I use it on my phone.

Competition isn't always the best thing for those managing Type 1 although I'm sure it makes more money for the likes of Medtronic and Tandem. How about some collaboration and sharing of knowledge and information for the good of mankind?

Now a month ago I defected from Medtronic after 15 years. No one I spoke to at Medtronic mentioned the 780’s debut was imminent, and the software could be installed on a 770. All conversation was to upgrade to 770 or keep my 630 for another year. Now why was that? It’s older technology and not integrated with their sensor.
Please add a chapter on the 780 sensor. The Medtronic sensor drove me away from Medtronic.
For a while, the Guardian 3 sensor would need to be recharged after 3 or 4 days. It never lasted the full 7 days with the 670 G. Now, it does with the 780 G. I don't know if Medtronic just improved the sensors or if the Guardian 3 sensors work better with the 780 G than with the 670 G. The last sensor I had installed was 2 weeks past the expiry date and it still worked till the end of day 7 and we had a period of very high bg (15.0 [270]) as well so I thought it would fail early, but it didn't.
I'm watching FBI reruns, can u summarize for me? I have the Medtronic 770. There's a software upgrade but you don't get a new pump? Do you automatically get the new CGM sensor or is that a separate issue etc as far as will your insurance pay for it now or not? Does it make sense to switch to the newest Dexcom or wait for the Omnipod imitation thing from the company Medtronic bought???
The pump is a no brainer. What are the sensors like? I had an earlier version of, the CGM and they were awful. They lost connection with the pump at least 3 times a night with the pump going NUTS and at least 3 times in the middle of the day. They also had AI built in, guaranteed at the worst time the CGM would go off, in a meeting with the customer at funerals and the list goes on.
For $20 a month I can get the Guardian 4 CGM, I don't know if I want them. I have the 640g and I love it. and I have to get the 780 (free upgrade) At least I get to keep my 640!
Guardian sensor inserting is horrible, really need to improve its inserting method.
Please have Guardian Sensor replaced asap, its way behind

It work good, however their sensor really isn’t good. I have been wearing it for almost a year. They are in desperate need of a new sensor platform.
In fact I don’t think if I had the choice today I would make the same decision. I have worn Medtronic pumps for over 30 years, and still like the pump.
I'm a.type 1 for 40 years medtronic user for 25 years . My problem is I go low to high with no reason and If I hit 100 I will be 50 with in mins
That could be a sign of heart damage. My husband had a brief low spell a day ago after lifting a heavy lawn object to put it away for the winter. He didn't put his pump in temp target before doing that work. He didn't lose consciousness, but lay down for a couple of minutes and recovered quickly. His cgms said he was about 7.0 so the weak spell could have been caused by low bp as well. I was away for a dentist appointment or I would have tested his bg and treated the low. It scared him, but no other damage done. My husband had a stent put in 2 years 5 months ago. He is on some heart medication so that could cause low bp, I guess, when he was working hard.
I'm stuck with a Tandem/ dexcom crap system because I am on Medicare.
I have a 770 g. Total junk. Went back to the paradigm 523. Hope it lasts awhile it's already 9 yrs old best pump ever I'm not trusting my life to something that says my bgs are 134 when it's 407. Total junk Medtronic is on the path to being a bud light company Medtronic would be wise to go back to basic paradigm 500 s models ! I'll go back to syringes before I use the trash being made now !!
Unfortunately Medtronic's blood glucose monitor sucks. It's very slow and not very accurate and It's like a harpoon that you stick into yourself. This would have been the perfect insulin pump If they partnered with Dexcom.
Why does he keep saying "we're working on technology" to do that?? Other pumps already have the "technology" and pump control through a phone app, watch app? Other pumps can software "update" their pumps via direct software download to the pump. They sound like Apple following Samsung..
You can do better than 100% Time In Range. Just figure out the basal, bolus and units to correct highs.

You realize that every pump manufacturer has it own proprietary infusion set…right?
Some times they sell the rights to other companies though. Medtronic bought the rights to one infusion set because it was so popular and put their own attachment on it so it will work with their infusion set.

After trying the sensor for 2 weeks, I have stopped using it. Everyone, all you have to do is use the bolus wizard and test your sugar more often. I do 4 times a day; before each meal and an hour before bedtime. My A1C has been below 6 for the last 20 years. That is as far back as the history goes. You just have to figure out the correct numbers. I have the same basal rate all the time. My carb ratio is 1 unit for 10 carbs. Basal is 1.8 per hour. Correction is 1 unit of humalog = 25 blood sugar points. The sensor takes too long to correct. You can do better yourself.
Oh also, the tape caused a lot of pain on the back of my arm. If you use the sensor, you will constantly be worrying about the numbers. That's my opinion anyway.

With all the "smart" folks working there. WHY is the CGM Guardian Sensors so ARCHAIC?? It's embarrassing to say the least...
Total craps. 680 sucked and lacked common sense. I’ll never buy an another Medtronic device.
