      Davos' whole speech is him putting Dany down a few pegs, with all the titles and flexing she did earlier, letting her know that Jon isn't some peasant or lowly man petitioning something. He is a descendant of House Stark and a Man of the Wall and North. The Northern Houses named him as their SOLE LEADER despite him having a bastard name, meaning he is her EQUAL. Davos is letting her know that she needs to show respect and that Jon is the most reasonable person she could have interacted with.

      I think the final season gets a pretty unfair amount of hate. A Knight of Westeros was great, The Long Night was a fantastically immersive episode. A huge criticism I kept seeing was that Daenerys goes crazy out of nowhere. Which I never understood. How many times does a person have to talk about, taking what is hers with fire and blood and destroying cities, before it isn't a shock that she takes what was hers with fire and blood and destroyed a city. All in all, it was a good season of television, if not on par with the best of GoT.

    • @MattcraftMSTR
      @MattcraftMSTR ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@snerdterguson I literally can’t tell if you’re trolling or are just unaware of how terrible the writing is. A knight of Westeros is pretty good, but the long night was god awful. First you can’t see a thing, which like “oh yeah it’s darkness it makes sense” that’s a stupid excuse. It was supposed to be dark as hell in the battle of helms deep but they made a little thing called the suspension of disbelief so you can actually see what’s happening. Arya killing the night king was out of fuckin nowhere and just uproots the entire setup of the Azhor Ahai prophecy that set the entire series into motion. The decisions made by the characters was so dumb like having the Dothraki just blindly charge the army of the dead. And yes Dany does absolutely go insane out of nowhere. While making her conquest wasn’t exactly quick and clean she only ever fought in battles and killed leaders who refused to submit to her rule just as Aegon did, then out of nowhere she heard the people of kings landing surrendering to her with the toll of the bell and just goes insane and murders thousands if not tens of thousands of innocent people instead of just flying Drogon to the red keep and burning cersei alive? Where exactly did her just massacring civilians come from?

      Get a better tv. I watched the same episode as everyone else and had no issues. It was dark, because… gasp!!! It was the long NIGHT.
      You, like many others, require things to be just how you want them. Wish it stayed truer to Martins ideas? Blame Martin. He had plenty of time to write while the first 4 seasons happened. You probably whined avoid Daenerys going crazy out of nowhere too. Because her constantly talking about destroying cities and taking what was hers with fire and blood wasn’t a hint.

      In all fairness, why would she believe him realistically. As far as everyone who hasn't seen it or is close to Jon is concerned its a legend that might not even be true of creatures from 8000 years ago that hadn't been seen since. If a man you had literally met minutes prior and and said all that about something from 8000 years ago there was no proof of and hadn't been seen since its unlikely you'd believe them either so she can hardly be blamed. It's easy a viewer to go why don't they believe it when it's clearly true but that's because we as the viewer have seen things the large majority of these characters have not, in all reality until she saw it herself, or proof emerged, she had no reason to believe it and the throne/rebellions would remain the priority. I'd add this can be applied to ALL characters not just Daenerys.

    The reason this scene is great is also its downfall.
    Jon faces the same quandary Mance did: ''if I bend the knee, the people that crowned me king will denounce me.'' This is excellent writing
    It would have been so great if the dialogue reflected this conondrum. Jon could have told them about Mance, knowing, finally ''if you don't know by now, there's no point explaining.''
    If he bent the knee to a foreign queen, the people that once followed no longer will. It's that simple. It really is that simple. Yet the writers failed us. That is the Achilles' Heel of this scene. Jon can finally understand why Mance chose to die, why Mance couldn't bend the knee, knowing how high the stakes are... The world is about to end and it all depends on taking a vow or some other gesture as bending the knee. That seems ludicrious. Yet it has come to this. I spite the writers for not emphasizing this parallel. This is where Jon understood Mance, if he didn't already. If he kneels, the North wouldn't follow, making kneeling more than worthless. Which it is. A gesture to appease someone so high on their own fumes they can't recognize the ground they intend to rule.

      I think she expected Jon to be wanting allies against the inevitable retaliation from Cersei, and thus would be amicable to bending the knee.
      He might well have been, if the Long Night wasn't taking up his concern. Jon isn't stranger to making hard, unpopular choices for his perceived greater good, and it doesn't sound like he had anything against the Targaryens really.

    This scene perfectly illustrates the problem with Dany's character. She was not a queen. She was not the heir to the iron throne. she was not the ruler of the seven kingdoms. She was an entitled, pouty girl who thought she was owed the world because of her last name. I would go as far to say that nobody would even give a shit about her if she did not have three fully grown dragons. She would have died in Mereen or even sooner.

      but to say she has no claim to the crowned is not fair. She has just as much rights to it as anybody else's and not just because of her bloodline
      but by her struggles and trial to get where she is and not to mention Dragons. But you're right she should show so more humility and respect, especially if she wants it

    This dialogue sucks. "I, I, I," from all the characters. This is the dialogue form of telling, not showing. A much better and convincing counterpoint from Jon would have been: "An 11 year old daughter leads the last of a village which hosts an army of evercharging bear-warriors. The entire civilization beyond the Wall has now climbed it and they sit, loosely leashed, ready for the next foe to ravage. These are men of the cold. Hardened, true men, each one twice as seasoned as any of your horse-riders. And they claim what I claim, they have fought what I've fought. They tell tales, I'm sure, as far reaching and superstitious as any have heard before. Your Dothraki never believed in dragons, and now fight beside them. They are led by one. The men of the North thought the White Walkers a tale of old wives, and now face them in battle. For centuries, they thought the Night's Watch was where exiles were sent to run errands. Now they follow its Commander."
    I get George didn't write the end, so it's his fault ultimately, but how hard is it to go beyond screenwriting 101? Every scene of this season is like CW writing: breaking the fourth wall to remind the audience directly of where the characters are coming from rather than rewarding attentive audience members, which was the expectation set in seasons 1-3. It's like the writers grew tired of the show and just wanted it end.

    This is when I started hating Daenerys. I could see what she was going to become even before the shitty writers wrote it, as did several others. This petulance and horrific character development, as if she learned NOTHING from her hardships and council, was a hard right turn from the direction she had been going.
