I think Sammy Davis Jr. is perhaps the finest male entertainer there ever was. A fine actor, great singer, and wonderful dancer. He could do it all. Check out his version of Candy Man, and watch The Rhythm of Life from the movie Sweet Charity, it's a fun 60s number. And Sammy sells it so well.

I love the challenge scene in the movie "Tap". You have to wait until about 6 minutes in to see Sammy dance but the wait is worth it, both to see him and to watch a bunch of hoofers having a great time leading up to his part. th-cam.com/video/5Zd6GnFCfck/w-d-xo.html

Dean Martin Everybody Loves Somedbody Sometime. The song that finally knocked the Beatles off of the top of the charts after like 5 straight number 1's in 1964

The first version Dean recorded was a slow acoustic version which I have always liked better. It was a last minute addition to his album "Dream with Dean". It was written by Dean's piano player nearly 20 years earlier.

There is a video of Dean Martin, Sammy, Frank and believe it or not, Johnny Carson singing together at a club. I was surprised by how good Johnny actually was. The song was "Birth of the Blues"

@@bgallagher8129 They performed a charity event in St. Louis in 1965-66. not sure. But it was televised live via closed circuit TV to bar and other public location. It was the 1965 equivalent to pay per view. Joey Bishop was supposed to be the MC but got ill right at the last minute so Frank called Carson and asked him to fill in.

True story- Frank Sinatra was going to tear up a contact for playing a certain club in New York because they tried to stop his close friend Sammy Davis Jr. enter the club to come see Sinatra perform. Apparently, the club owner was racist. Sinatra demanded that Sammy be let in and would not stop until they did!

It wasn’t the club owner that was the racist it was the era in history where segregation took place and many public places didn’t allow black people.

That's a great backstory. More of that can be found on Netflix that has a great story of the Rat Pack in Vegas, it's about how they made Oceans 11. Great film from back in their day, on the strip etc. It's been a wonderful walk down memory lane when men were gagsters LOLOL and they could sing.

In Richard Gehman's long out-of-print 1961 book, "Sinatra And His Rat Pat", he tells a brilliant story when the desk clerk of a hotel refuses entry to Sammy by saying
"We don't allow Negroes into this place." Frank was standing behind Sammy and replied: "You do now, I've just bought the place!"
Frank was earning 54k a week in 1961. The average yearly wage for a US working male was 4.2k. There is also great footage of Frank and friends shaking hands with Sammy's family
in the front of the stage at a Rat Pack show. Much has been said about Frank, but regarding race relations he was beyond reproach.

Jay/Amber.... Please would you react to "Singing In The Rain" 1952. Starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and the amazing Donald O'Connor. Gene Kelly did all the Choreography along with Stanley Donen. It depicts a light-hearted look at Hollywood in the 1920s transitioning from the Silent era to Talkies. It's a Musical Romantic Comedy. I REALLY think you'd enjoy it. ❤🫂💃🕺😅🎼

Billy Rose was married to Fanny Brice and their relationship is portrayed by James Caan and Barbra Streisand in 1975's Funny Lady. Johnny Carson MC and took Joey Bishop spot for that show.
Probably the Rat Pack at their best.
    Dino singing
    Sammy impressions
    Johnny telling jokes.
Franky hitting it out the ball park!
A must watch. I believe it took place at St Louis in 1964.

Sinatra and Sammy's relationship was special and enduring, and they supported each other for decades through thick and thin. But I guarantee that no one recommended this song instead of Sammy doing "What Kind Of Fool Am I", "Who Can I Turn To", or "That Old Black Magic", and Frank doing "The Way You Look Tonight", "Summer Breeze" or "The Best Is Yet To Come". I mean no one.

I know how much you love the crooners of yesteryear - and rightly so, they were amazing - but may i suggest you watch Robbie Williams Live at The Albert Hall. It was a live concert/tribute to the old crooners and Robbie's performance was out of this world. His tribute to Frank Sinatra was a show stopper. Robbie also released an album of crooner covers called Swing when You're Winning. An excellent album

I have a bit of a special relationship with this song. Back in my hometown there is a Frank Sinatra Tribute Singer (If you're ever in southeastern Virginia near the Carolina border check to see if "Frank Sings Frank" is doing any performances in the area.) He used to sing this song with one of his best friends who was also part of a vocal Doo-Wop tribute group he put on with members of his church. He hasn't performed the song since that friend died unexpectedly, but seeing them perform it live does give a little bit of a hint of how Sinatra and Sammy Davis Junior would have done it.

I was raised on rock from my dad and pop from my mum, so I didn't really know much about swing music. That is until one of our most popular artist, Robbie Williams released a 'Swing when you're Winning' album and this song was on it.

Sammy was also a quick draw/pistol spinning enthusiast! There are several videos on TH-cam if you want to see/react to that. (Some where he is “blank firing” his Colt single action revolver, & some where he “dry fires” it. I only hope he was using “snap caps”, to protect the revolver from any damage.)
    ALSO…
PLEASE check out/react to Sammy as “Big Daddy”, & his song, “Rhythm of Life”, from the flick, “Sweet Charity”! Definitely a favorite of mine! 😁☮️✌️

When I was a kid, I wouldn’t listen to the older generations music, but as an older person, I like listening to it. Frank & Sammy were part of the “ Rat Pack “ a small group of their entertaining friends…Dean Martin, Joey Bishop & I believe Don Rickles were part of it, they were funny & always laughing. 😂 I miss them. 💚💚
