This is a classic. Two iconic singers. I once read that Sinatra said the only person he felt nervous singing with was Ella because she is just so good. That’s saying something. Love them both.
It seemed like Ella could have really taken off & belted that out of the park, but she would have overshadowed Frank. Both are fantastic singers, but Ella had a power voice!
What made Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and all the rest of the singers of that era, (1940s and 50s), is they got their starts performing in bars and clubs and learned how not just to sing bot entertain the audience. That's what made them so good at what they did.
Probably the best female of all times,as she could sing CONTRALTO.Ella was obviously on a par with Sinatra.The only thing lacking with other females of greatness was that she didn’t have the FEELING FOR LYRICS like Judy Garland,Billie Holiday,Sinatra,etc.But she was terrific.

Nat King Cole, yes. Bing Crosby, also iconic. Louis Armstrong also sings with Ella and that is epic. Billy Holiday, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney (George's aunt), and Tony Bennett. Modern jazz in the style of: I would also recommend early Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Buble, Madeline Peyroux.
Great reaction! Being a kid of the 70s, both Sinatra and Ella were before my time but, my Grandpa loved Jazz and Ella and Big Band music. I lived with my grandparents for part of my childhood and grew up listening to this music and watching how good it made the old man feel. It wasn't my cup of tea but I appreciated it and didn't mind listening to it. It was fun watching him dance. As I grew older, I could definitely hear the influence this music, among others like Gospel, had in Rock and Roll, R&B, and Pop. I can hear it. It's there. Sister Rosetta Tharpe, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, is often called the Godmother of Rock & Roll. She was a singer/songwriter gospel artist who rocked the electric guitar in the late 30s. Mick Jagger mentioned his love of her music and was influenced by it when he, Eric Clapton, Brian Jones, and Jeff Beck went to her concert in 1963 and again in 1964, both in Manchester England. That's the important part to learn. Jazz, Swing, Gospel, and Big Band produced some of the foundations our current music comes from and every subsequent genre added something to it until we get what we have today. These bands were among the best musicians of modern times. Watching them perform w a singer is astounding and something we don't get today. They laid down some of the funkiest bass lines you'll ever hear. When you hear a sax, trumpet, bass, or almost any instrumental element in popular music, chances are it's influenced by Jazz or Big Band music. So, yes, please explore some of these great artists like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, etc. who live with us today in the music we hear. Just listened to some of their stuff, and to quote Carlin re.God, "I tried, I really tried" I didn't grow up with the genre, so I only like certain songs from certain artists, like "Down With the Sickness" by Disturbed. Although, right now, I'm listening to Bloodywood, an Indian Folk Metal band,and loving everything they do. I suspect that I'm considerably older than you are. The 70s is my favourite era

IMHO - this is one of the best duets ever recorded!!! Listen to Frank singing Fly Me To The Moon with the Count Basie Big Band. What a treat that will be for you!!! Sinatra's first hit record was All Or Nothing At All, by Harry James & his Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra, from 1939. Jump down the Sinatra rabbit hole & you'll be entertained for years!!!! You should also make sure to listen to Frank's version of this song, as performed in the movie, Pal Joey. Considered by many to be one of the best musical numbers in film history, it's actually more than good enough to live up to the hype!!

You 2 need to broaden you musical Genres, i am oh so fortunate and indeed lucky to be 80 yrs old, but both of you being young are unlucky in not listening and indeed buying recordings i.e. Albums and singles of such greats like Sinatra and Ella who i believe to be the best singers of 20th Century the "Great American Songbook" are what we oldies call "Standards" not Jazz . Yep would not want to be a day younger because i would have missed out on plenty of musical decades of fab music..
