This looks like it was from their Thames Television era in the 1980s.

It certainly was. In my opinion their best comedy sketches were performed when they were with the BBC. Ernie also stated this years later, which he attributed to the writers at the BBC in the 70's.

@@comedywriter8408 Sid Green and Dick Hills wrote for them when they were at ITV from 1961-1968 and for their first BBC series in 1968. The genius Eddie Braben wrote their best work at the BBC from 1969-1977, apart from the 1972 and 1976 Christmas Shows which were written by Barry Cryer and John Junkin. Their first two Thames specials of 1978 were written by Barry and John. Eddie Braben joined the duo in early 1980 at Thames.

I'm noticing a pattern. Thames had Eric come out in a variety of silly costumes. They even used the same fake chest hair joke. It's still funny enough and Eric was infinitely watchable, basically doesn't matter what the material is he'll be funny.

Thames era shows saw a lot of rehashing of old BBC material or reworking of BBC material, as by 1980 they had started to struggle to come up with new ideas for 7 regular shows and a Christmas show per year.

Anyone else notice he's wearing the helmet backwards? 😁
