    Every time Sori says hi I’m Sori my mind says ‘this is a Canadian person saying sorry’ and then I have to say no, this is a person introducing themselves and their name is Sori.

      I agree what you guys are doing is awesome. And it's amazing to see an open minded christian perspective. I'm from Georgia. Open minded christians do not exist here. I'm judged by most for my music here.

    I also feel a profound sadness for 11 being stuck in time for so many years. I can picture this lost, scared kid frozen in a darkness. Waiting for someone to save him. And old man Maynard finally realizes he has to go back and save 11. But they save each other.

    Another great reaction, guys! The thing to remember about Tool, is that the Justin Chancellor's bass is set as the lead guitar, while Adam Jones' guitar is meant to "add flavor," as he puts it. Not always the case, granted, but the more you listen to the band, the more it becomes clear. It's one dynamic of many that sets them so far apart from other bands.

    • @thebatman1482
      @thebatman1482 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lithium Black I don't think those are fixed roles, in almost every song they change their roles. Both are lead and rhythm in every song

    • @tanyamorgan5362
      @tanyamorgan5362 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooohhhh THAT'S what that is.... Thank you soo much for that, I've known of and listened to tool songs few and far between for years, but getting way more into them through this channel and I thought there was something going on sonically that I couldn't quite put my finger on, I am a Bass player and have an ear for bass anyway, but it felt with tool that Bass was specifically waving for my attention and not merely hoping for it.
      So thank you again for that information.

    • @jodybarnes9466
      @jodybarnes9466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't fully agree with that. The leads in Tool are Maynard and Danny Carey, which I think is what puts them so far apart from other bands.
      Adam Jones and Paul D'Amour...later and longer, Justin Chancellor...are the ones who develop the music/melody. Some of the songs are definitely bass forward, but they drive the song, not lead it.
      Drop D tuning lends itself to the guitars (Adam) and bass (Paul/Justin) trading off in that because you have the 2 bottom strings for both guitar and bass that are already tuned for harmony without even using a fret.
      But I wasn't never much of a guitar or bass player...and was a barely passable singer and drummer, so that must have something to do with my perspective. ;-)

    Hi VinAnd Sori, new lady metalhead subscriber here!!! I love Tool, and I love the way you two breakdown the meanings of the songs! This is great, because I've never seen a reaction channel where they really get into the subject matter with such deep discussions! It's so extra special. I saw Tool live in Baton Rouge, La. back in 2002 during their Lateralus tour, and it was mind blowing! Absolutely the best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen many! Meshuggah opened for them. This is a great song, and a great discussion. Anyone who experiences a childhood trauma can be emotionally stuck in that moment. This song can speak to anyone who is trying to heal, and rebond with that damaged inner child. The going away part was about Maynard being taken away from his mom to live with other family members, after she fell ill. I think this song, can also be seen as an overall description of his journey through Judith/Wings for Marie/10,000 days. From his childhood trauma to his finally healing and seeing his mom off to her creator. He talks about coming home, the same way he said Judith Marie was going home.

    • @mpfiveO
      @mpfiveO 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotta also add, I completely agree about Tools use of heavy bass riffs. It has ruined me for all other bands, they just sound flat to me. The first time I heard these crazy bass riffs I was hooked

    You guys are a wonderful example of what Tool can do to open the channels of inner thought. People often disagree with what they perceive the true meaning of these songs to be. There I believe is where we find the true measure of their art. By taking the time to understand his emotions, we can try and connect with our own. Whatever you think the meaning of the song is, will due. As long as it stimulates you to deal with some of those things that alot of people choose to ignore.

    New subscriber over the last wk love you guys. Lateralus was like reliving journey with your reactions. And I’m a huge TOOL fan but feels like I’m reconnecting to their music as they’ve been dormant.
    This song is Jimmy with lower case j on package and alludes to him as a child and his mother’s paralyzation at 11 yrs old but not many even die hard fans know that this song more about and deals with abuse he once suffered and before and ended when he moving away. He mentioned at live performances in ‘90s that this was a sequel to a song called Prison Sex that is on subject of cycles of abuse and seeing who you’ve become since.

    Reading "perfect union of contrary things" biography of Maynard James Keenan. Never heard this song before, but it seems wild because I know what he's talking about having just read about him growing up in Michigan. Last night I just realized we go camping in the Manistee National Forests alot and that's right next to Maynard's home town.

    Great reaction/critique. One of my favorite Tool songs of all time. You guys seriously need to react to this entire album at some point. It's brilliant. Also "Ænima" is pronounced "Ah-nema".

      Totally. Too much to type here but it's so refreshing to hear interpretations and opinions that actually build in giving people the grace to emote, make art, move people, etc. I, personally, am a religious person, but being involved in the arts, I have a ton of friends who are different religions, agnostic, or atheist. Regardless of it all, all points of view being with recognizing each other as imperfect humans and that we're brothers and sisters. So, to hear how you two approach breaking down music in an intelligent and open way without sacrificing your own views, is exactly the counterbalance TH-cam needs. Looking forward to more videos!

    The point you made at 23:30 about whats worse, the shooter, the person videoing or the person watching the video, reminded me a lot of the song Vicarious from Tool. Its all about that and recognizing the part inside yourself that wants to see horrible things.

    Just found you guys. I enjoy how you guys keep your comments to a minimum during the song, they are true reactions and not stopping the song to hear yourself speak. Then all of the ideas and thoughts that we can see forming from your facial expressions during the song come out in a thorough analysis afterwards. I enjoy the analysis as much as the reactions. You have found a great format, that sets you apart from the pack. Keep up the good work.
    Edit: He does hold the note live

    This song is around his mother but its directly about losing his child like imagination and innocence. His mom died at eleven. He lived in Ohio {under a dead Ohio sky]. Jimmy\eleven being his child hood. Saying about getting that back. Also the opening to the song (interrmission) is the mimic of the guitar in the opening

    Vin, Sori. I am LOVING your videos. I just watched Her Ghost in the Fog. You did an old school song some serious justice. I would love to see what you two think of Amorphis and their songs. I would recommend one of their newest songs called 'The Bee', or one of their older ones. Either 'Under the Red Cloud', 'Tree of Ages', or 'Sacrifice'. They are a Finnish melodic death metal/folk metal band, and are beyond talented. Thanks for the videos, can't wait to see what you do next!

    It’s seems like “heading home” is an inevitable journey he will make, through hardship, emotions, pain, guilt, acceptance, etc, .... moves on to more songs that describe so. to eventually come to terms. You won’t die happy if you don’t get some kind of closure.

    I had known that Maynard wrote about when he was 11 years old and her mom got sick ,so he had to move to Ohio to live with his dad(Im not so sure with who) and the only thing he wanted in that time was to reunite with his mom .
    In any case your reviews are amazing guys.

      Maynard grew up in Ohio with his very religious mother and strict step father. I believe he felt stifled and so in his teens he began to rebel/act out and ended up moving to rural Michigan to live with his father. The change of scenery did him good. I think he had a lot resentment towards his step father and ultimately at his mother.

    Maynard's Inner Child work. We do what we have to to survive childhood's like that. In song. This just shifted something for me regarding Jambi & Third Eye. Those will be great reviews too. And nice job on the Numerology Vin.

    For Tool I definitely suggest 46&2 and Lateralus. Both are unique little knots to untangle. Another suggestion you might want to look at is Disturbed - Into the Fire. Seems up your alley.

      Opiate will be tough for them, Maynard is pissed to no end on that album. I felt very similar when I lost my mom recently. Correction, not similar, exactly the same. It wasn’t the right way to look at things but it’s hard going through those kind of things, gotta find someone or something to blame.

    Jimmy = James= as in James Manyard Keenan.11 is when is mom became paralyzed and left Ohio to live with his dad is in Michigan. There is a thread throughout the album, particularly on the songs Forty six and 2, and Jimmy and Third Eye. You guys are awesome I love how you guys break down the song and try to put the puzzle together. Spiral out keep going...
