  • I've finally done a collection video of my Cold Steel fixed blade knives. It ranges from small neck knives to large bowies. You'll see the Cold Steel: Master Tanto, GI Tanto, Recon Tanto, Trail Master Bowie, Laredo Bowie, Chaos Kukri, and SRK as well as Spike neck knives, and the FGX plastic knives. See these together I realize there are so many more left to get ... JK ;)

Awesome collection sir! I’m a retired Marine Corps machinegunner, and my cold steel bone handled trail master travelled with me to every clime and place. Often other marines whom didn’t know would criticize its size, then it would be time to make camp and they would all want to borrow it! Great stuff! I love that Laredo bowie!

Thank you sir and thank you for your service! I always wanted one of those bone handled Trailmasters but they only made them for a few years and were way out of reach for me at the time. It's cool to know that you were out there with that knife keeping watch and holding back the tide!

You have been sharpening that by hand! Oh my GOD ... the price of that has just dropped through the floor!
That sub-point should look like mine ... that is the entire reason for having a 45 degree mighter that is as tight as a mosquitos arse! The factory bevel was (on all of them) even a tad sloppy so I have to tighten them up.

@@TheKnifeJunkie That Master Tanto is an inheritance blade (pass it down through generations) for sure. But Cold Steel has sure made some mall NInja junk over the years ... and you have some great examples to display in the first 9min 20sec!
I know this will come over as rude but ...
You need to learn how to sharpen steel if you are going to keep blades.
So far every blade I have seen has been as blunt as a butter knife.
You may as well have an empty clip/open slide in your HK chambered in .45 ACP.
If you think puncture/stab wounds are effective in self-defense then you clearly have not been paying attention.
Here is a man I have followed for over 14 years ...

Watch the blade work in this video at the end ...
      th-cam.com/video/keBy_88WPDo/w-d-xo.html
I have seen guys get stabbed 7+ time and then go on to beat the attacker to the ground and put him in a coma before they even knew they had been stabbed.
Puncture wounds always come after a 2/3 strick combo and only if you understand anatomy and physiology to the level a surgeon does. If you just randomly stab people you will get the bade equivalent of a through and through. Not effective at all! And you are now a dead man if the other person has any skill level with weapons!

Forgive the annoying dikinitpiking, but another fax pax was the reference to the “jimping” on the culloden. That’s actually just decorative file work. Nice collection and that’s just part of your Cold Steel? (And my wife says I have issues). My CSs are predominately from a tomahawk phase I was going through but I do have the SRK (seem to remember hearing somewhere that the Carbon V5 is a proprietary 1095 of CS) and some of the cheaper boades. The Master Tanto was always my unicorn blade as $300 was outside my comfort spending zone. Nice!

The Trailmaster is not 1/4 inch steel, it's 5/16. Lynn Thompson got into kind of a pissing match with custom maker Jerry Busse back in the 80's over Jerry making what he called the strongest knife ever made, the Busse Combat knives Battle Mistress in 1/4" INFI steel. Lynn wanted everyone to know the Trailmaster was better, so they made them 1/16" thicker. It didn't matter, because INFI is so strong you could split Carbon V with it, but it made Cold Steel some good marketing.

@@TheKnifeJunkie Cold Steel's Carbon V was 0170-6 steel made by Sharon Steel, who went bankrupt in 1988. Camillus acquired their stock of steel and produced 0170-6C which was basically the same thing with a touch more vanadium. When they went under in about 2005-2006, Cold Steel dropped Carbon V from their line, replacing it for a while with SK-5, which is the Japanese version of 1095. The old Carbon V was basically 1095 chrome-vanadium like Becker/Kabar uses today, it's a good tough carbon steel.

Your honesty is welcome here sir! Often times, for me, it's a case of buying the best I can afford at the time. That old carbon 5 Trail Master has been kicking ass a long time and was the best I could buy in 1997, but I will grant you, a pristine San Mai version would be a sweet addition to the collection. Speaking of false economies, I am beginning to feel like these super steels we pay a premium for, are great for metallurgy nerds and actual "hard users" (which I am not) but on the whole, are just a great way to get more money out of knife buyers. That said, I fall victim to unearned steel-snobbery with almost every purchase these days! Thanks for your input.

@@TheKnifeJunkie I am going to say something positive now as I have come over as a rude/obnoxious douche lord!
You have got some good blades there and we perhaps have a different philosophy of use ideology. I only have 2x kinds of blades ... utility/combat.
My combat blades do not get used for anything else. I put 3 microns or lower edge on the apex after I have put a custom bevel geometry on them and they never get used until I have to take them to the flesh of someone who is in need of being shown the error of their ways ... and yes I have had to do that.
Utility blades are my Leatherman Wave and a Gerber EZ-Out in (Hitachi) ATS34 and that is it.
The positive part is I did see a blade that I actually want in your Tops knife collection. *The FELONY STOP*
      www.topsknives.com/felony-stop
The last blade I saw that I really liked was when SOG brought out the pillar at Blade-show in 2016 (I got 2x).
So thank you for that! It was a good video in all as Tops do not make mall ninja shit!
I have wanted a Tops for a while now but I could not see any that I did not already have a blade that had that covered ... and I am not a collector as such. I have a bunch of blades but they all have a purpose.
*The FELONY STOP* is extremely unique in a variety of ways and is the only double-edged dagger style that I would be fine with EDC. I would not take my Tai-Pan out on an EDC basis because it is now rare/valuable and also has a 7" blade on it FFS!
You take that out if you know you are going to fucking kill, someone! And not before.

@@TheKnifeJunkie In India we have a penal code/constitution that protects our rights as citizens so if you are attacked you may defend your self.
As long as your weapon is legal to carry under the 1959 amendments to the weapons act then you are legally fine.
I will get onto filming some of my impact weapons but they are all legal right from my Custom brass knuckles (which are actually made from solid Silver) to telescopic batons/high powered stun guns ...
I choose a blade though as that is how I train. If your blade is 9" or less in actual blade length it is legal to carry and use in defense of your person.
The last time I found myself in that situation was in Mumbai 2015 ... 3x guys approached me and my wife leaving a restaurant (off the main road and a little isolated).
We were waiting for our driver to wake up and bring the car around (my wife was calling him).
Long story short they wanted to rob us I would wager and perhaps even rape my wife (they were Muslim males of fighting age) the beards and the dress code gave them away.
I tried to de-escalate but they were clearly there to get it done so I put my hands on my hips because I had a Recon Tanto tucked down the back of my pants ... I just stood there and did not say another word.
The Alpha asked for our phones and money ... I just stood there and did not say another word. He asked again while pulling a blade and walking towards me and that was legally all I needed ... my wife had her phone out and was filming by now.
I met him halfway and had deployed my Tanto by that point/check his right arm and snipped his bicep tendon. With a twist of the wrist, I ran the blade from his right to left shoulder opening up that area heavy with blood vessels under the clavicle flipped the wrist again and went down his torso from left shoulder to right hip.
This induced his buddies to run (I kept them in my field of vision the entire time). As there was now a lot of blood.
His right-hand grip had gone due to not having a bicep tendon anymore so I let go and as I reversed the cutting edge to face me/took my knees out of the lock position ... I put a knee against his left tibia and took out his hamstring tendons ... he proceeds to fall to the floor on his knees.
There was a lot of blood as my blades are scalpel-sharp as you have seen but I managed to not get any on my new boots (BlackHawks) which I was happy about!
I could have just left him in a puddle of his own piss and blood right there but I was now in a different state of mind/high BPM and a tonne of adrenal gland activity.
This all happened very quickly/3x hit combo and hamstring tendons. Under 3x second from engaging the threat ... to the competition.
But as there was a strong likely hood of me getting knifed/robbed and laying there bleeding out as my wife was being raped I was not going to let it go ... I approached him from behind and put the Tanto under his armpit/cutting edge facing up ... as I put my combat boot on his right scapula I pushed with my boot as I pulled up and towards me with both hands (left hand holding my own right wrist) and that was the one that did it!
So the end result was I went home and he did not!
We both just walked to the main road and told our driver to come and pick us up at Mercedes dealership that was right there on the main road.
He would have bled out in less than 4min with those wound cavities and the snipped arteries under his right arm.
But that is the law here and that is self-defense! I would never have walked away from that incident in London but I moved from London over 10-years ago now.
So you ask which blade do I think is most effective and I would have to say my EDC Recon Tanto. The first one you see here in san mai ...

However, I would be comfortable with using any of these 3x also ...
