I personally own one of these knives. I purchased it while I was in Iraq in 2005-06. This knife is extremely durable, holds an edge like no knife I've ever owned, before or since, and although the coating is almost completely gone, it hasn't rusted despite the abuse it has seen.
@urkingod Survival calls for a longer blade, so personally I'd go for the Scout. However, if you don't want a big knife in your EDC, the SRK is probably the better option. The SOG SPE is a bit smaller than, but has the same steel as the SRK. So it's also recommendable for the same use.
@poolguyjason it's a piece of 550 paracord. you can get it all over the internet and at military surplus stores. usually you can get 100 ft of it for around 7-8 bucks
@happycburger2 to be honest i never looked into the tanto...i will see what people say about it. not to keen on the tanto design but we'll see... thanks for the info.
@samstterhamstteer Convex grinds are harder to sharpen due to the "dynamic" angles, and convexed blades are heavier than regular saber or holoe grinds. The saber grind allows a more versatile blade, while convexed blades are usually found in customs or classic bushcraft knives. Personally, I think the SRK is a well designed knife with a good blade shape. Its only downsides are the long ricasso and the fact that it's no longer in Carbon V.
and i love it how they say in thier vids it cuts throug effort lessley but thier facial expression in slow motion says otherwise... not to mention the force thier putting into the cut if you pay attention to it.... im not dissing them im sure there good blades i just thought i should metion it
@happycburger2 yes and no. i like CS because they have those cheap sturdy hunks o'metal. you can get the srk for as low as 60$. it's a decent knife for that money. i have the ka-bar large heavy bowie. looking for something like that but smaller, not such a wide blade. a survival knife that i can throw in my back pack, is trustworthy, not feel sorry for it if i neglect it. I got the F1. Something like that but bigger and chaeaper. the srk is perfect but i wouldn't get aus8 in a survival blade.
i hear nothing but good thing about the carbon v version. but people tell me the aus8 is one i should avoid. i like aus8 in a folder, but it will not hold an edge in rougher tasks. why not bring that one back? why not another good tool steel? i am looking into buying this knife. but the fact that i can only get the aus8 version is a strong deterrent.
i like cold steel knives they are made strong, if i have a suggestion to the knife makers though if cold steel made most of their knives with a convex grind i think it would sell a lot more
@Eric36h im pretty sure they handle it carefully and then donate it to a food bank, looked it up on google cuz i wondered the same thing, thats the results i got from a few websites
@happycburger2 i know brother, but i am looking for a relative cheap workhorse, one i can beat on and not be sorry if it can't take it. 150 seems a bit steep for am SRK. that money gets you a way better product and waranty.
I want this knife but it is a half inch to long to be legal to carry in my part of Texas...would there be a way to "modify" the blade someway to make it a half inch shorter? Without effecting how it fits in the sheath? I can't find any survival knifes you sell in 5.5 inches under $80 .... Thanks for your time!!
lucky I saw the video and read the comments, I was about to buy this knife Aus-8 steel.. so, what other knife is good? I prefer drop point, 6-7in, plastic sheath. any recommendation?
i HAD their old master tanto, it was an awesome knife, 2 pieces of hard stel sanwiching a 3rd and harder type in between and held a razor edge good. back in 1885 or 86, it was $250. this was alot back then but i figured it was a lifetime buy, so... little did I know it would be ripped off by my ex'x rat-bastard son! i've not seen another since.
@D0wnt0wnCl0wnyBr0wn if your being deployed as a us soldier the reocn tanto is probably a better combat blade or for outdoor use in the woods hiking/hunting the srk is better but they both make awsome deployment blades they are both great
@3antaralhatab its true, a lot of knives can cut through most of the things this ones cutting through in a video... my swiss army knife that came from a sifto salt premotional thing, can cut through a lot of this stuff i bet.... it was my dads but he gave it to me when i was like 12.. and trust me, the blade on it is not very good..
Wonder how many times they re-honed the blade between each time it went a bit dull. I own one, in AUS 8, going strong after years of abuse in the african bush...but it would not survive the more extreme bashing tests they have used as examples. Yes, it's the Carbon version, yes but I a AUS 8...guys, it's a knife, a steak knife is also sharp when you buy it off the shelf, a butter knife can also remove the hair off your arm, well...you know what I mean. Today, we use more realistic examples to prove the dexterity if a knife. This is how they advertised things in the 80's when the tube TV 2x2x2 was HOT STUFF!! Great knife, but dont try to stab someone through a car door when your bullets run out, just buy an extra magazine!
Ive owned and used the AUS-8 version of this blade for a year and used it heavily. This is not my top pick and infact ive started regarding at as one of my cheeper blades like i get from the flea market. Coldsteel makes awsome folders but they have a tendency to overhype and then not deliver. Case and point: Cold Steel SRK.
***** Ah. Thanks for the reply. I might get the Carbon V and the new one. I'm just really waiting for the 4 max. Anyways, am I talking to Lynn or someone else from the crew?
the grind job on this knife sucked. ive tried and tried to fix it myself but it is just too awkward. the edge angle is different all over the blade. near the handle, the angle is too wide. further up, the angle becomes shallower and sharper, which makes it a pain to sharpen
considering that they no longer use carbon blades this video is obsolete. DO NOT go by this knife. it is constructed of AUS8A steel and DOES NOT hold up like the sk-5(1095 HC) blade did. there are plenty of other knives ie. the Ka-bar, that are cheeper and WAY better.
I personally own one of these knives. I purchased it while I was in Iraq in 2005-06. This knife is extremely durable, holds an edge like no knife I've ever owned, before or since, and although the coating is almost completely gone, it hasn't rusted despite the abuse it has seen.
Thank you for your service sir.
I bought it today, and I gotta say it`s pretty awesome. I fixed it upsidedown on my vest, and its rocksolid. no wobbling whatsoever.
I bought one awhile back...liked it so much I bought another!!! GREAT KNIVES!!
I have FIVE of these knives!!!! In my top favorite knives of ALL TIME!!!!
@urkingod Survival calls for a longer blade, so personally I'd go for the Scout. However, if you don't want a big knife in your EDC, the SRK is probably the better option. The SOG SPE is a bit smaller than, but has the same steel as the SRK. So it's also recommendable for the same use.
I've got this knive, the old carbon 5 steel version used on this vid, it is pretty cool.
Does SRK stand for " Super Reliable Knife"?
@poolguyjason it's a piece of 550 paracord. you can get it all over the internet and at military surplus stores. usually you can get 100 ft of it for around 7-8 bucks
@happycburger2 to be honest i never looked into the tanto...i will see what people say about it.
not to keen on the tanto design but we'll see...
thanks for the info.
i have a carbon V one, as well as recon scout. good stuff, very tough and side by side with sk-5 recon scout much better edge holding
just got my srk in the mail and love it awsome knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey cold steel knives are the best quality knives in the world
best wishes cold steel

Aussie Knives dot com sells some of the knives in Australia. I've used them heaps and they're really good.
i hear nothing but good thing about the carbon v version. but people tell me the aus8 is one i should avoid.
i like aus8 in a folder, but it will not hold an edge in rougher tasks.
why not bring that one back?
why not another good tool steel?
i am looking into buying this knife. but the fact that i can only get the aus8 version is a strong deterrent.
Could a seal team elite do that at 1:28
Aus8a, maybe the best knife ever! Love my SRK!
i like cold steel knives they are made strong, if i have a suggestion to the knife makers though if cold steel made most of their knives with a convex grind i think it would sell a lot more
@Eric36h im pretty sure they handle it carefully and then donate it to a food bank, looked it up on google cuz i wondered the same thing, thats the results i got from a few websites
@TheSmackfan101 No, but I recommend buying either a Lansky or Spyderco sharpening system and sharpen your knife properly. My SRK is razor sharp!
in terms of stainless steels yes, its mid range but any high carbon steel will rust much quicker.
You can get a recon tanto with a longer blade and same construction for the same price.
What about doing detail tasks with this knife?
what are they doing about the meats after those tests?
looks like the kind of badass knife that can take a man down with one good slice
Do you guys shipping to Croatia?
@snakeeyes3211 not true, I love mine. have you owned one?
Excellent!
@happycburger2 i know brother, but i am looking for a relative cheap workhorse, one i can beat on and not be sorry if it can't take it. 150 seems a bit steep for am SRK. that money gets you a way better product and waranty.
I wonder when CS is going to publish a PROOF video with the new steel lineup.
I prefer drop point, 6-7in, plastic sheath. any recommendation?
is this the aus-8 or carbon steel knife they are abusing in this video?
i HAD their old master tanto, it was an awesome knife, 2 pieces of hard stel sanwiching a 3rd and harder type in between and held a razor edge good. back in 1885 or 86, it was $250. this was alot back then but i figured it was a lifetime buy, so... little did I know it would be ripped off by my ex'x rat-bastard son! i've not seen another since.
Holy shit! - Tis is one true commando knife.
@D0wnt0wnCl0wnyBr0wn if your being deployed as a us soldier the reocn tanto is probably a better combat blade or for outdoor use in the woods hiking/hunting the srk is better but they both make awsome deployment blades they are both great
Why do some sellers say this knife is only 80% tanged?
are you guys still suspending shipments to australia? thanks for your time
Is the SRK a good alternative to a kabar?
@froliciouspanda Ok, but considering if it was filled with oil, wouldn't it be dangerous?
this knife is awsome but the edge will chip but the chips are easily taken out by sharoening loooove this knife
which knife would you choose: the srk or the recon tanto. the price doesnt matter.
I own both. I prefer the Tanto but both are perfect. I love the Tanto point just a bit more. It's stronger I think.
What steel is the SRK in the video made of Carbon V? AUS-8? San Mai?
Is there also a semi-serrated blade available ?
what is it going to be used for. The tanto design is for stabbing.
where can i get one of these
i just dont understand why the knife is so dull. and does anyone know of professional knife sharpeners in the Houston area? thank you
How does this hold up in saltwater?
hey mate do you have a distributer in australia or should i order from america?
is this the aus 8 version?
i like how this guy aint trying to play a action hero like the other guys do on cold steel videos
@3antaralhatab
its true, a lot of knives can cut through most of the things this ones cutting through in a video... my swiss army knife that came from a sifto salt premotional thing, can cut through a lot of this stuff i bet.... it was my dads but he gave it to me when i was like 12.. and trust me, the blade on it is not very good..
When is Cold Steel going to make a 7-inch SRK? (The Cold Steel Way!)
If you gonna make a knife for navy seals I would suggest a titanium blade.
they not going to show the one ware he snapped the tip off
How much money?
Wonder how many times they re-honed the blade between each time it went a bit dull. Wish I could get my hands on one of those, it'd sit right next to ka- bar.
Don't really need a combo serrated blade if you sharpen a plain edge good enough,
"If a soldier's foot was injured, you can cut the boot with this knife"
yeah, but not without stabbing his foot...
this is the new kabar imo
@goge1807 +rust resistance, very dangerous
I can't imagine how incredible your knives would be in 154cm
@ltjosh10 lol calld the recon scout!
@goge1807 it's filled with water
I would get this but I've never been impressed with aus 8..
Jesus Christ, are all the tests performed with the same blade?
I guess you can't tell the diff between diff knives? 😐
try a cold steel warrior katana ;)
yeah but the thing is, it's not filled with oil
Aus 8 or carbon V ?!
+csknives Which do you prefer? AUS8A or Carbon v
***** Ah. Thanks for the reply. I might get the Carbon V and the new one. I'm just really waiting for the 4 max. Anyways, am I talking to Lynn or someone else from the crew?
***** Ah, well I meant a used one, anyways it's nice to see a company that actually talks to it's customers! Another reason why I love cold steel.
I soooooooo wish I had bought this rather than the recon tanto :(
I have both and I really prefer the Tanto. Both are perfect tho. Just preference. Tanto to me is the better point. Stronger.
if the soldiers foot was injured you could amputate!!
the grind job on this knife sucked. ive tried and tried to fix it myself but it is just too awkward. the edge angle is different all over the blade. near the handle, the angle is too wide. further up, the angle becomes shallower and sharper, which makes it a pain to sharpen
hoaly crap, what a awesome knife!
0:55 or you could've used the little tab.
Oke dokee
they must go through a few barrels
5:10 MANPENTRY
it 's a knive for a soldier
Can't the oilbarrel explode in the guys face if the steel makes a spark? -.-'
LOL @ 4:29.
Yeah, that's the Cold Steel way to cut a boot off an injured comrade's foot.
Everyone else just cuts the laces.
Survival / Rescue Knife
Does no one else want this knife to be avaliable in sk-5?
sou mais a minha quati da família lobo guara de Ricardo Villar
Or buds
considering that they no longer use carbon blades this video is obsolete. DO NOT go by this knife. it is constructed of AUS8A steel and DOES NOT hold up like the sk-5(1095 HC) blade did. there are plenty of other knives ie. the Ka-bar, that are cheeper and WAY better.
Prefiro a Lobo Guara do cuteleiro brasileiro Ricardo Villar
3:59 - no big deal u can do that with some cheap knife..
Wouldn't have much of a foot left!
Lol, same car door from the Warhammer video.
Who dosnt wanna open a can of peaches
i got it new for 50$ just gotta shop around
I wouldn't want someone to cut the boot off of my foot like that ;p
Hahaha, "Could cut boot off the soldiers foot" If he cut boot like that while it`s still on the foot... man, poor foot.
now make a knife for special forces hahah
carbon 5 no more so sad
