    It's so great how you explain every little detail and taking care of your client. Some cosmetologist just focus on lightening the hair, doesn't care if it's too over processed or breaking off just to lighten the hair which is truly risky. We need more people like you!

    Great color correction! When a at home made color goes wrong, it's so nice to tell your client it's gonna be alright. And then make an excellent balayage like this one. I love it!

    I feel like placement and attention to the little details really makes the best color. Anyone who goes quickly on my hair I know it’s a bad sign. 😭 paying over 250$ to 300$ I don’t expect to walk out looking like I got an at home color. I can mess my own hair at home for cheap. 😂😂😂

    Great job! The before and after are pretty stark and it's amazing to see the end results. The hair is so brassy and splotchy at the beginning of the video. A good example of what can go wrong if you DIY and are not super careful and prepared. No disrespect towards your profession but I've seen some amazing DIY on YT from many people who don't do this for a living.

    You know, it turns out looking 100% natural (like the hair is naturally colored that way) if you also use your hands and fingers (NO BRUSH) after you’ve painted it on. Paint it on, then take your hands and spread it out over the strands of hair and mesh it well into the root color with your fingers - then foil it. That way it has an effortless look and doesn’t look like they have purposely went and had it done it that way. Using the hands to meld both colors together where they meet makes it look effortless and natural (as if they were born with both hair colors simultaneously). Where the brown meets the blonde it should bleed together perfectly. You can see a separation here between the brown and blondish color, and it should look as though the brown perfectly transitions into the blonde (no lines, and no indicator of where the brown ends and the blonde begins). Look at celebrities foilyage hair and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s very simple actually and requires a bit of artistic effort in using the hands and fingers after brushing the bleach on and before foiling. School can only teach so much, it’s when we step outside the box that we become the best we can be! Never do things the robot way that the textbooks teach. Any great professional (high end) hairstylist will teach you that school just teaches you the basics so that you can perform the job, but the rest you learn in the field, and if you’re doing everything in the field the way you learned in school- then you will never rise above that level.

    This is so pretty. I’ve done chunky blonde highlights (with darkor medium brown) since forever. I’m thinking about doing balayage to avoid the extra dark growths line (with some greys) but I’m a little scared. I feel like it looks good on younger women, but I’m almost 40. Don’t know if it looks good on me. But you did a great job!

      Go for it! You're fine. The great thing about this technique is that you don't get the awful grow out- it looks natural. (I'm coming up on 43. Know what you mean, having had my hair in so many colors & highlights/ chunk sizes...but am definitely trying to keep my look fresh, but 'age appropriate' - whatever that means.)
      It's like that moment you look at something in the store & think "that would look great on the 25yr old version on me. Haha (Or my 19 year old daughter!) The way I KNOW I've 'gotten there' is when I see the new shorts each year...seems like there's less material. 🤔 Probably just me though. I know we ALL wore shorter stuff that our Mamas did. Enjoy your hair, however you wear it.

    My hairdresser did it well and the caramel shades look very nice at the bottom but the top part of the head is too light since she decoloured larger locks. We went to blonde first but I asked to go darker since the colour looked like a strange yellow she was a bit baffled but she did it. Maybe I just need more time and I really think that people should be aware they might be disappointed at first since they never saw that colour on themselves.

    Love it!!! Please help!! I have a guest with very long thick hair. She wants a dark root level 4 almost 3 into icy white blonde! She's already blonde so the first tim did it I very carefully painted and combed to blend but there was still some spots that I had to go back and correct. Now she came a few months later for her follow up and I did what you did here painted the root and balayaged some bleach with it to bright some of the mid shaft blonde even more. Well that resulted in a warm gold area where the two met. I toned but it's not enough to transition from dark to white!!! She's coming back tonight for me to reapply the root and drag it down farther to cover the warm ring. Any recommendations on how to do this without getting spots on her white hair would be appreciated!!!😍😍

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joan Yeager the warmth is from where you put lightener over the previous root color. If you want that to be lighter just go over it again with lightener and maybe a higher developer. You just have o break through that previous color. Also let her know that with having such a dark base and wanting to get the blonde touched up she will have some warmth in there. It's almost impossible to lift a level 3 color (especially if it's permanent color) to a white blonde. I would recommend to either stop doing the roots so dark so that when you do go to touch up the blonde you don't have to go through such a dark color, or maybe do a more natural blonde color so you don't have the lift out the dark color as much. Hope this helps a little!

    • @beautybyjoan1756
      @beautybyjoan1756 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lexi Dawn it helps in the sense that I am right in everything I have told her this far!!! I painstakingly re painted the dark last night and drug it lower over the warm area. Then I toned her with the iciest color my color line has and left it 10 min. It worked for the most part and she was happy for now. But I could still see slight warmth and not as great of a blend as I would like but because of the high contrast I cannot come it or anything because it will spot on the blonde. Thank you so so much for responding, love your videos😘😘

    I have a question. I have balayage but its not as light as I wanted (just looks like super dark overgrown root line with blonde ends). Is is possible to somehow lighten the roots to make the light colour even as I want to stay blonde? Is it even possible after balayage or highlights to come back to one color again?

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +marlen Perez you might be using too much color and it gets on te comb so when you bring the comb through the blonde some of the color from the comb gets on the blonde. Honestly though it just takes trial and error to figure out what's best.

    It looks so good you did great! Question! My hair currently looks much like the before I went in and the lady just basically did a weave all the way through. But in a way that it looks like and older woman who has gone parts of her hair that are grey. It’s not chunks it’s literal strands ALL OVER! I was wanting a baliage now but I worry with how my hair has been processed if it’s safe to darken the roots, like you did, and then bleach it again. Let me know if you think that’s safe. @ Lexi dawn; How long does it normally take you to do a full balayage process such as this? And on virgin hair? Do you have any tips when wanting to be a little faster? I never stop or slow down I have a great rhythm and get every strand and piece that needs to be done and blend and etc & i am fast. But I feel like with my long thick hair clients it just feels so long to finish going through the hair like I do super correctly and precise I just want to be faster. Random question, how would you blend the root color if their blonde hair was super damaged and even lightener with 10 vol wouldn’t be an option? If you ever get that type of client could you do a tutorial?

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes i for sure will! You can use a comb and really blend the transition area. i went over with lightener because she wanted to be a little brighter and make it look natural.

    Sorry, I'm in the process of learning howto creatively use toners so just wanted clarification. When you said you used 8v, 9v and 9n on her mid/ends you just mixed them together and then combed them through to the ends? is that how you got that dimension that i'm seeing in the after shots or is that just the different levels of lightness through her hair?

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christina Quach both! I mixed them all together and applied that mixture all over her hair. The darker piece will take a little different to the toner then the lighter pieces would and that’s why you have the dimensions!

    So did you leave the root color on while you applied your balayage? What happens when the root color and the lightener mix? I’d be scared of banding and added warmth

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Olivia Wolfley yes I did. There will always be a little warmth where the hit but you can tone that out. And if you apply the lightener right there shouldn’t be any banding.

    I’ve never seen any one balayage the underneath of the section! I thought balayage was suppose to mimic the sun and just lighten the tp of the hair section.

    • @LexiDawnMcc

      That is true for sure. This technique was mainly to correct her color so we needed more blonde throughout each section.

    My hairdresser did it well and the shades look very nice at the bottom but the tip part fo the head is too light and she decoloured larger locks. I'm dark brown with olive skin and it looks weird. Maybe I just need more time but I really fell the top of my head should be darker.

    maybe i missed it but what would happen if you feathered the lightener on top of the color when it was possessing? I always worry if my root color gets touched by bleach it will mess up the result.

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +CityFarmGirl the bleach will pretty much always eat through the color if it touches it. The only thing is is that the bleach that touches color won't lift as much as bleach that doesn't touch color.

    I recently went to a hairdresser who claimed he had 16 years of experience. This client’s first job looks better than mine. I ended up with spotty light orange, dark orange all over my hair, the balayage is equivalent to none. I told him the same day and he said it’s a process and it will take two sessions. I told him I wanted my money back because this is now a color correction and those are very costly. I have to wear a hat. He said he could add a toner to fix it but how does that fix the unevenness and this absolutely awful job. I want to cry. I’m supposed see this individual on Monday. Im afraid to go see him because it may be even worst. I’m considering taking him to court. Flat out scam.

    This is GORGEOUS!!!! I am having a level 9 client of mine come in for like a 4N root....lawrrrddd help me! It’s crossed my mind to just do a double process like paint her down like a root touch up, wash, dry, and then go back thru and v paint. Would this technique work on something like that or do you think it would go too brassy where the lightener meets ?

    • @LexiDawnMcc
      @LexiDawnMcc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Megan Danielle oooh! If she's a blonde wanting to go dark on her roots I usually always use shades eq for that! It's Demi so if she wants to go back blonde t won't be hard to lift out. Also it blended super well and f you put lightener over it you shouldn't get on much warmth.

    “I don’t have any old clients. I dunno why, I just don’t.”
    No client in the beauty industry wants to be referred to as “old”. That’s why we come dye our roots. I had grays at 28 and that is not “old”.
    I think a professional stylist should be able to handle all types of hair and Demi color can absolutely not color grays. How you said it, even if unintentionally, just came off as ageist and insulting.
    Believe me. Gray pays for days.
    Source: An “old” woman who has been dying her hair the last 25 years and now needs gray coverage.

      I don't think she meant it in a disrespectful way, she is still very young and not 'polished' in her speech yet. But yes, it's not a nice experience as a client to be labeled as old so be very wary of this, they will not return if they have a choice.
      With demi, the grey coverage will wear off and then the grey will show trough...the nightmare of every woman that wants to feel young and confident with her hair.

    • @cyberspelunker1980
      @cyberspelunker1980 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MegaTinni yes exactly. I don’t think it was intentional either, it was just not thought out, but it’s something to take in consideration. Women are already sensitive about being gray. We visit stylists to help our self esteem. It’s hard to age for some women and we don’t need a reminder 🙁. Yes Demi won’t stay on the grays, will fade.
