I wonder if that 'panning' bit around 1:03-1:05 inspired all those 'still-panning' effects you used to see on TV and action movies in the late-90's/early-00's, most notably in the 'Matrix' series. It's barely two seconds but to me it's the coolest part of the intro.
I was born in 2005 and i really enjoyed this cartoon. It was yesterday that i got a random flashback and stumbled upon this video. I really want to watch this show again
Anime history lesson of what should qualify as anime. Good story, less randomness unless it makes sense, eyes not too big, and overall a plot that goes here and there!
that's how fast everybody drove in the 70s, much to the anger of the cops who were trying in vain to ticket everybody they saw hence why cops were called "pigs" back then because they'd waste all their manpower writing traffic tickets for decent hardworking people who could barely afford to pay them instead of actually chasing down murderers, thieves, fraudsters, and other criminal scum it was easy funding money for the city and could help replace the missing money corrupt government officials were receiving from kickbacks
Speed Racer was just so super cool when I was growing up! It's like you just couldn't get enough of it! And now I'm in my 50's and it's still just as cool as it was before!
I couldn’t wait to get home from school to watch Speed Racer and Ultraman theme songs and shows. It was a few of the things, among many that I enjoyed growing up as a kid in the early 70’s in Midwest USA!
Who remembers those giant 1970s color TVs encased in wood? My friends and I would sit in front of one in complete silence, totally enthralled by Speed and his adventures. I don't recall anything else we watched except reruns of the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island.
That's exactly what I thought when I was little. I used to watch it in English, and didn't think at all it was Japanese at all. I thought it was American. Well, Speed has cute eyes which is the famous signature created in Japan. Other than that, this anime is influenced from the American animation someway and it was appealing to the western audience more
+Ruben Delgadillo My dad got me into this show and I was SO addicted for quite a few years. He also bought me the box set they had where all the episodes were on there. I couldn't get enough!!! :)
My dad used to watch this when he was 5 years old. He was shocked when I told him it was an anime 😂 And it’s still an enjoyable show to watch with him many years later
Yep, this was among the first anime that were seen in the US, I didn't even realize it was anime. Anime became huge in the late 80s, early 90s and by then I was too old to watch cartoons but I tell my kids today who are huge anime fans that me and my generation of American kids were pioneers in terms of watching anime 😆
I remembering watching this and _Kimba_ The White Lion (Yes, with a K) and wondering why all the other cartoons were drawn badly in comparison except for Loony Tunes.
Considering anime wasn't even a prevalent form in Japan until after WW2, it's no surprise your dad acted that way. That only gave it twenty years before America got a look at it, and you can be sure the term anime wasn't in the dictionary back then.
I can remember barreling through the house at break neck speeds to get into the living room when I heard this on tv. The idea of even attempting to move that fast now fills me with great pain.
I forgot for many years I watched this in the very early 1970s. MTV Rebooted played these in the mid-1990s. I think (??) it was part of *_Liquid Television._* My Eldest Son while a child in the 1990s watched this, but I wasn't paying attention visually when he had this on. I'd hear theme music several times, couldn't figure out how I knew the song singing along. Then I decided one day to watch this with him My memory hit like a ton of bricks. I must have been 3/4 years old then when I watched this regularly in the 70s.
I remember watching Speed Racer on Cartoon Network years ago. Best anime action ever; I saw the episode titled the Mammoth Car, and stolen gold 🥇 was built into the car to hide it for smuggling. Speed Racer was able to stop the gold theives. Go Speed Racer, go!!! Sigh! What a classic.🏆🥇🤩
The first cartoons I remember always watching were Speed Racer and Gigantor. Then a few years later it was Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Then a few years after that, Land of the Lost and Emergency!
On July 19th, it was announced on Tatsunoko Pro's website that Ippei Kuri (real name: Toyoharu Yoshida), creator of Speed Racer, passed away on July 1st.
I remember watching the show on the early 90s tv, playing with an old car steering wheel pretending that I’m speedracer driving the Mach 5. Now I’m 31 and I’m starting on competitive Karting and sim racing on the journey to became a Gt car driver. Thank you Speedracer
I can't remember a lot of my childhood, but when I stumble upon THIS. Oh my. THE TUNE ITS JUST A WEIRD MIX OF MEMORIES AND DEJA VU FOR ME YOU DONT KNOW HOW WEIRD BUT RELIEFED IM FEELING.
This show was such a huge part of my childhood. Every Friday, my brother and I would go over to my Grandma’s for the weekend and my uncle had the whole series on DVD. We would cram it all in just a few days.
That music is so classic. Even if the cartoon is weird and cheesy, it has such old-school charm. It could only be '60's with that Beach Boys type singing the theme. And he really does look like Emile Hirsch!
Still is and will always be the greatest cartoon show of my youth!!! The best episode without a doubt The Most Dangerous Race with the Car Acrobatic Team!!!

He's gaining on you so you'd better look alive
He's busy revving up the powerful Mach 5
And when the odds are against him and there's dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer will see it through
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer Go!
He's up and flying as he guns the car around the track
He's standing down the pedal like he's never coming back
Adventure's waiting just ahead
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer Go!
I was born in 2004 but my dad showed it to me as a kid and I loved it. It brings back so many memories to see the theme song
0:40 casually bumps someone else through a barrier, yeeting them into the air and bombing harder than Hirosh-

When I was born in 1968 I grew up with two channels on my television and even then I had to take clothes wires twist at ends , go on top house and wedge where it wants to be for that day, it was either sesame street or Speed Racer and I loved that cartoon so much, I fell in love with Go Speed Racer into to my teens even and to this day .. silly right? I would draw pictures of him and wear clothes like his and all my Barbie coloring books were all Speed Racer. .. Anyway love it.
Touched me as well
Go Sandy GOOO!
That is ware the furious five got there I'd. From
Sandy Williams Barnett you like these cartoon very much
Sandy Williams Barnett I saw it in90's and still great
I’m an 80’s baby so technically this show is a little before my time, but boi did I enjoy the re runs!!
this intro really helped make this cartoon iconic. its been playing around my mind my whole life, im 51 yrs old.
Same, and I'm going to be 60 this month...
Just got my driving license....Gonna hear this song all the time while drivin :>
Nana Harajuku no Hime play this at your funeral
Me too when I'm older
Coconut Klaire three years on, do you still have your license? 😀
@@meowmeow-cr5sn If he was hearing this song while driving, he's probably had it revoked multiple times by now.
I'm going to assume you've killed many
Facu peralta lore:
This is perhaps the most catchiest theme song ever.
The Japanese version is catchier.
will you guys shut the hell up?!?!
No can do. Gotta go with Batman or Peter Gunn over this one. The chorus is catchy though.
Theme song by Danny Davis and The Nashville Brass. 😁
Spiderman theme song tho
I couldn't get home fast enough from elementary school in time to watch Speed Racer in the mid 70's! Man, those were the good times!
I enjoyed that cartoon and i was born in 2005. Good times
You said it, buddy
When eres la intro de facu peralta:
O my god. I'm crying now. I loved this show. I still have my vintage Mach 5
Reliving past memories that touched us deeply, will do that to a person.
i love the theme song of speed racer... "hes a demon and he is going to be chasing after somone!" actual lyrics... also he KILLS a man! that man who gos over the railing died in a firey explosion!
No he did not he ejected out before the crash.
I didnt see him eject...
***** Yeah, i just watched it and he doesn't eject, his wheel flies off but no person comes out.
Dan Mc! uakkalsls oriarity 8g TV c3hkwkd c
Dan Moriarity he ejected, dude...Ever see a blue wheel shaped like a rectangle,? Thought so.
I was born in 1969, and I grew up watching this. I bought the DVD sets.
I wonder if that 'panning' bit around 1:03-1:05 inspired all those 'still-panning' effects you used to see on TV and action movies in the late-90's/early-00's, most notably in the 'Matrix' series. It's barely two seconds but to me it's the coolest part of the intro.
Most likely!
Keep in mind, this is a 60s TV cartoon budget. That whole thing had to be completed with multiple flawless drawings to be that smooth.
Iconic!
The Matrix movie directors directed the speed racer movie
Loved this show, along with Kimba the White Lion, as a kid in the late 60s and early 70s. So nostalgic!
Retro Dreams I love being born in 62 to enjoy this kind of stuff as a child Living in Los Angeles. This was on channel 52
The only reason I even know Kimba is due to the Pokemon vhs tapes I would get out.
I was born in 2005 and i really enjoyed this cartoon. It was yesterday that i got a random flashback and stumbled upon this video. I really want to watch this show again
Both these shows were pretty violent sometimes and both are Japanese, but many Japanese shows are known to be violent XD
Don't forget Gigantor!
This guy had 3 goals in mind:
1.- win the race
2.- make an iconic pose
3.- kill that dude
And not necessarily in that order 😂
You're not a true anime fan until you've seen this beauty
Yes and I'm not even an anime fan
Yes
Anime history lesson of what should qualify as anime. Good story, less randomness unless it makes sense, eyes not too big, and overall a plot that goes here and there!
im not an anime fan, but i remember loving this as a kid
Ground breaking show years ahead of its time.
0:43
And that's why seatbelts weren't mandatory till the 70s
wasn't the driver was the wheel drive is dead on explosion
that's how fast everybody drove in the 70s, much to the anger of the cops who were trying in vain to ticket everybody they saw
hence why cops were called "pigs" back then because they'd waste all their manpower writing traffic tickets for decent hardworking people who could barely afford to pay them instead of actually chasing down murderers, thieves, fraudsters, and other criminal scum
it was easy funding money for the city and could help replace the missing money corrupt government officials were receiving from kickbacks
The guy that Speed crashed was probably a loving husband and father with two beautiful little girls.
But it was fun damn it.
Speed Racer was just so super cool when I was growing up! It's like you just couldn't get enough of it! And now I'm in my 50's and it's still just as cool as it was before!
The bass of this song is on point! They don't make em like this anymore! Go speed racer 😉
Good point! That bass is vibing
I couldn’t wait to get home from school to watch Speed Racer and Ultraman theme songs and shows. It was a few of the things, among many that I enjoyed growing up as a kid in the early 70’s in Midwest USA!
I used to get mercilessly ribbed for watching yet always went back anyway
I was a child of the 60's and early 70's. Seeing and hearing that intro brought back many great memories for me. THANK YOU!
Me too
Who remembers those giant 1970s color TVs encased in wood? My friends and I would sit in front of one in complete silence, totally enthralled by Speed and his adventures. I don't recall anything else we watched except reruns of the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island.
Back in the day as a child (pushing 60 now) you couldn't find a better theme song for a cartoon.
When I first saw this, I honestly didn't know that this was made in Japan XD
Today it probably would have been made in China!
That's exactly what I thought when I was little. I used to watch it in English, and didn't think at all it was Japanese at all. I thought it was American. Well, Speed has cute eyes which is the famous signature created in Japan. Other than that, this anime is influenced from the American animation someway and it was appealing to the western audience more
I first seen the cartoon when I was 5 years old back in 82 in Houston Texas but it was in Spanish then so I always thought it was a Mexican cartoon
Why? It's obvious...
Always made in japan
I hope they add the Mach 5 into Rocket League...that would be epic.
SWITS Feral and the Mach 6
HELL YES
Yeah.
well they added it on GTA V recently and it is awesome
As a long-time lover of both of these things I can say that if this happened, I would genuinely flip my shit
This show literally holds like two faded memories in my head but as a kid I had a huge love for this show
When I first saw Speed Racer at age 5, the intro really made me feel happy!!
And now you are a serieñ killer with 100 plus victims… ok ok only in your imagination
It's just the intro and someone just flies off the cliff and explodes like it's no big deal
Facu peralta
El que se tira un pedo y salta(?
This opening itself brings back memories upon watching it and hearing the theme song too.
I get pissed when my kids think Speed Racer sucks!
+Ruben Delgadillo My dad got me into this show and I was SO addicted for quite a few years. He also bought me the box set they had where all the episodes were on there. I couldn't get enough!!! :)
+Ruben Delgadillo the new ones do suck
+KenKraken I said I get pissed not shut your mouth or I'll beat you.
Alan Castaneda+ THE ORIGINAL 60S TV SHOW OF SPEED RACER WAS A CARTOON, DUMMY!
time for new kids.
My dad used to watch this when he was 5 years old. He was shocked when I told him it was an anime 😂
And it’s still an enjoyable show to watch with him many years later
Correction: it was anime BEFORE there was anime.
Back then it was called Japanimation
I remembering watching this and _Kimba_ The White Lion (Yes, with a K) and wondering why all the other cartoons were drawn badly in comparison except for Loony Tunes.
Considering anime wasn't even a prevalent form in Japan until after WW2, it's no surprise your dad acted that way. That only gave it twenty years before America got a look at it, and you can be sure the term anime wasn't in the dictionary back then.
0:47 top 10 anime death's
Literally
I can remember barreling through the house at break neck speeds to get into the living room when I heard this on tv. The idea of even attempting to move that fast now fills me with great pain.
I forgot for many years I watched this in the very early 1970s.
MTV Rebooted played these in the mid-1990s. I think (??) it was part of *_Liquid Television._*
My Eldest Son while a child in the 1990s watched this, but I wasn't paying attention visually when he had this on.
I'd hear theme music several times, couldn't figure out how I knew the song singing along. Then I decided one day to watch this with him My memory hit like a ton of bricks. I must have been 3/4 years old then when I watched this regularly in the 70s.
He's up and flying as he guns the car around the track!
He jamming on the pedal like hes never coming back!
ADVENTURES WAITING JUST AHEEEEAD! 🏎️ 💨❤❤❤
Aguanta
Este video no sobre hackeos?
I remember watching Speed Racer on Cartoon Network years ago. Best anime action ever; I saw the episode titled the Mammoth Car, and stolen gold 🥇 was built into the car to hide it for smuggling. Speed Racer was able to stop the gold theives. Go Speed Racer, go!!! Sigh! What a classic.🏆🥇🤩
Speed Racer, Jonny Quest, Gigantor
Vampire Hunter B.
I agree. Definitely Johnny Quest!!
Johhmy Quest is the shit!
Raydeen
The first cartoons I remember always watching were Speed Racer and Gigantor. Then a few years later it was Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Then a few years after that, Land of the Lost and Emergency!
Speed Racer, Scooby Doo, and Mazinger were cartoons I loved to watch in my childhood.
On July 19th, it was announced on Tatsunoko Pro's website that Ippei Kuri (real name: Toyoharu Yoshida), creator of Speed Racer, passed away on July 1st.
Oh no that's horrible
December 20th 2016.. still remember and love the old 60s cartoons
Love that theme song.
It's so memorable.
I remember watching the show on the early 90s tv, playing with an old car steering wheel pretending that I’m speedracer driving the Mach 5.
Now I’m 31 and I’m starting on competitive Karting and sim racing on the journey to became a Gt car driver.
Thank you Speedracer
i changed my dad’s ringtone to this because this was his absolute favorite show when he was a kid.
I forgot Speed straight up killed a dude in the opening. Holy shit, it’s a race settle down dude.
I had no idea this was an anime when I was a kid. This theme is awesome though.
The whole show is epic. Btw nice profile pic!

I watched Speed Racer on the Speed Channel and It's AWESOME!!!!!! I can watch Speed Racer on The Speed Channel anytime I want, whenever I want.
Giffton What?
I like speed
This is one of my most favorite cartoons I grew up with and this song! I love this song love this song!
Bro I remember coming home from kindergarten/head start and putting the vhs into the vhs player and this would come on bro I miss it so much 😭😭
That music is so classic. Even if the cartoon is weird and cheesy, it has such old-school charm. It could only be '60's with that Beach Boys type singing the theme. And he really does look like Emile Hirsch!
Still is and will always be the greatest cartoon show of my youth!!! The best episode without a doubt The Most Dangerous Race with the Car Acrobatic Team!!!
...and the mammoth car episode.
Loved the song and the show as a kid. The only car i know that had a drone (the homing device/ bird) in 1968!!
The "Black Beauty" on Green Hornet" (1966) had a similar device. I hope we get those soon too.
Speed really is a demon! The Dude even kills ppl in his own intro!!
