Sorry about your loss. I did the same with my grandparents, except it was every Friday night, to watch Ben 10, Generator Rex, and Clone Wars back-to-back while eating pizza.
the new episodes are hideous. Too many crazy effects/animations, jokes are dry af, the plot or theme of the episodes makes no sense. Glad to know that I watched spongebob before it rotted away
But at the beginning they did pretty calm stuff. Jellyfishing, driving school, krust crab, etc. *Now* they do really wierd stuff. Everyone is changed. It pains OG spongebob fans
Ikr, I was with my cousin and we were watching this episode where spongebob and Patrick were playing in a pool under water, they were playing Marco Polo, then I think Patrick disappeared, so spongebob did what anybody would do, and got out of the pool, closed his eyes, and yelled Marco so Patrick can say Polo. But then, Oh, there was this guy named Marco. So like he was angry, that spongebob kept yelling his goddamn name But then, spongebob found Patrick with the old buddies, he just had wrinkles so he thought he was old. So then spongebob had wrinkles, so now they were old people. The end.
When i was a child, i thought this was a great example of dark, exaggerated humor. Now, as an adult, i see that this was a satire of the insatiable greed of real people.
When they announced Stephen Hillenberg died, I was heartbroken. I grew up loving Spongebob and I have no one to thank except for Stephen Hillenberg. _It reached the point where I felt I'd contributed a lot and what I wanted to say._ _At that point, the show needs a new blood. And as a writer, you have to move on._ *~ Stephen Hillenburg*
I think we all learned a very important lesson at the end of the video. R.I.P Stephen Hillenburg . You really took me by the hand and showed me the land that I understand...
Nickelodeon didn’t ruin this show. They SOILED it. Stephen wanted to make a show that everyone all ages could enjoy, but one quote he said was: “Hopefully, if you watch SpongeBob, you see plankton and crabs and starfish - and you’ll want to take care of our oceans.” He made this show for everyone to discover marine-life is like everyone’s environment. And to help our ecosystem. But Nickelodeon w̾a̾n̾t̾e̾d̾ him to die just so they could make... Camp Koral, Milk this show to death, And Money. You are mad, Nickelodeon.
Don't forget that Hillenburg would deny any crossovers with TV shows and Celebrities. As soon as he left, they took the opportunity to bring celebrities in.
I dont think so because some celebs that are in Spongebob he was the producer at the time in some episodes like the Season 10 Episode 3 “Snooze You Lose” J.K. Simmons was on there and he was the producer at the time he came back to work on the show again, so he kinda wanted some celebs but at the same time no
The older episodes had sly references to adult themes, like existential dread, the mindlessness of 9-5 jobs, and suicidal ideation. The newer episodes don't have those themes. That's my biggest gripe about them.
Not all TV shows need adult references though. Especially if they’re going to be completely obvious. One modern episode has a joke about Squidward trying to hang himself and it isn’t funny at all. There’s another one in which plankton wants to get run over and that one made that specific episode even worse
@@Murr248 I disagree. I like gallows humor relating to suicide and similar things, even if it's in poor taste. However, I prefer when the humor is subtle or hidden, rather than obvious.

I found it really disrespectful that they announced a spin-off a few months after Hillenburg's passing. Nickelodeon is literally giving the middle finger to a dead man that made most of their money in the first place.
But if he wasn't on since the 3rd season how come it hasn't died yet ?? I dont think it will because they've been doing it for so long without him and succeeded I dont like it but they put all their eggs in one basket and those eggs keep turning into gold
Wow I didn't realize the golden years of Spongebob were only 3 seasons. Thought the show had been going on longer, but I was a kid back then and no concept of how long the show had been airing.
Seasons 4-5 had a ton of bad episodes weighing them down. even if there were good ones. Season 4 at least gets points for its visuals tho. Seasons 5 onwards though is just different digital animation which kinda sucks
Hillenburg: Spinoffs? Over my dead body. Nickelodeon: Deal. But seriously, I quit watching Spongebob after the first movie. Without Hillenburg, it's not the same. And it will never be the same. It's a shame we lost Hillenburg at such a young age, but I'm glad his ashes got to the ocean. He was passionate about the sea and it was clear to his creation.

Nickelodeon is the Mr Krabs of children's television.
You just don’t see people put in this much love into their shows anymore. Such a shame we lost such a great artist. Thank you hilenberg for a huge piece of my childhood.
Remember "oh yea cartoons!"?? Nickelodeon should do that again! Instead of focusing on their dumb teen sitcoms and treating spongebob as a cashgrab, they should do the Oh Yea Cartoons show so that many cartoonists can show Nickelodeon that they can bring in new animated shows! Nickelodeon must give cartoonists a chance to bring their creations to life! Oh Yea Cartoons was the reason why fairly odd parents existed. Even cartoon network used to do the same thing but their version was called What A Cartoon. without What A Cartoon, we never would've had the grim adventures of billy and mandy, courage the cowardly dog, and kids next door. The point is that there are so many cartoon artists who are doing their best to make their creations into actual shows, and yet studios like Nickelodeon don't care at all!! They prefer money money money money money! And it's just sick how Nickelodeon is disrespecting Stephen's memory by now abusing their power on spongebob now that he is not here anymore. It's just sad how animation doesn't get enough respect and love like it used to be years ago.
Spongebob isn't even funny anymore. They try too hard. There will never be the humor that the original had, especially the scenes like "It's this way Patrick" and the bank robbery scene. Those weren't pushing it, they were just random and ridiculously funny.
All the humor in the new episodes is just characters getting hurt, funny faces, and childish jokes. It's the thing that makes the new seasons so bad, and it sucks to see such an awesome show go in such a horrible direction.
deathfireball28 DB yeah and now the characters aren't funny or cute anymore, they're just straight up psychotic or cringey. Also now spongebob episodes are creepy and disturbing. They even include gore (except without blood.)
Spongebob was my childhood show that I used to watch and love so much. So when Hillenburg passed away last year, it broke my heart into pieces. The fact that Nick goes out and does this makes my blood boil.
I bet the spin off will probably be fine the same people are making it and age is just a number. Maybe they could tell interesting new Stories with Spongebob.
Youssef Matte Official there are SO many classic spongebob moments that are genuinely funny and “witty” for kids shows standards. But I feel like the newer seasons feel a bit dumbed down for quick laughs the majority of the time. However there are pockets of good episodes here and there post-spongebob movie.
You know Scooby-Doo actually ended right? What Warner bros does with Scooby-Doo is every couple years they will make a reboot or continuation of Scooby-Doo then after making a new episodes for the new show it'll end and a few years later another Scooby-Doo cartoon will be made. So you're saying Spongebob is gonna end and then Nickelodeon will start making reboots, continuations and other spin offs of the show?
Hillenburg: "I don't want to do a 'babies' spin-off of SpongeBob, it's pointless and would disrespect my creation" Nickelodeon: "Ok man, don't worry" Hillenburg: *dies* Nickelodeon the next day: "This is so sad, we will always remember the laughs he gave us. *SPEAKING OF LAUGHS get ready to laugh at Camp SpongeBob! A new SpongeBob spin-off but they're babies!* "
@Lance Boyle yes, because everyone writes down in their contract, "don't do something I wouldn't do". Yes _technically_ Nick is in their legal right to make Camp Spongebob. And no Steven did not write it in ink never to do it. But it was something he was vocal against, and then to near *immediately* announce a spinoff that the creator would've veto'd after his unfortunate death is downright scummy. To quote The Emperor's New Groove: "Well, he ain't getting any deader!"
@Lance Boyle it's not his fault. Seeing as if you know how a network operates. Even if Hillenburg were able to write down on paper what his wisher we're for the show, they would be veto'd after his death. Because that contract would be void and it would transfer spongebob over to Nick as the full owners. Not only that but you don't get that strong of a say in how a network will run your show. Seeing as they we're making plans to defy him even as he was alive.
The show should've ended with the first movie, but if it had to go on, the show should've ended when Stephen Hillenberg died. The 3rd movie should've been 2D animated, and be the final ending to the series, with all loose ends tied up.

Remember back when Spongebob was just treated like every other show on at the time, like Jimmy Neutron, Fairly Oddparents, and Danny Phantom? Yeah. No milking at that time. Just a good, well treated show.
When Hillenburg created Spongebob, he hoped that the show would make us love sealife as much as he did, so that we would take better care of our oceans. He wouldn't want it, and he's the one who created the show. Why not accept his decision and let Spongebob go? It's really sad.
Nickelodeon is milking a franchise that should have been put to rest years ago. I think the creator actually wanted to after the first movie aired. They release these live action filler, which are terrible, because there’s a point where they want (but can’t) air SpongeBob 24/7. Cartoon Network is just as guilty with their Teen Titans Go marathons, or Disney with their Raven’s Home marathons. I know we’ll never return to those glory days where cartoons were the main focus on kids networks, but I remain hopeful that Nick will return to their roots. Personally, SpongeBob from 2009-2012 for me were the dark ages. Anyone remember that episode where SpongeBob purchases a kids meal from his job, only for Patrick to act so inconsiderate and steal his toy? Yeah the characters became one dimensional and I will always dislike Mr. Krabs and Patrick.
These networks will milk one or two shows to almost death (Nick with Spongebob & Loud House, Cartoon Network with Gumball & Teen Titans Go) but then whine that their other shows have no viewers as they put them in random time-slots. And usually a "death time-slot" which Cartoon Network does a lot, their DC shows of Green Lantern & Young Justice were a prime example of that with them shifting them around after Saturday Morning blocks finally died and they got put on a Sunday morning time-slot. Most people don't even know that the Mega Man Powered Up cartoon actually came out, because Cartoon Network has crammed it into their "death time-slot" with it's show being on at like 4am or 5am on Sundays.
@@ChaosZero1031 I don't see how Amazing World Of Gumball is being milked the show ended but still has reruns I'm assuming because a movie may be in the works but I don't think its being milked.

So like he was angry, that spongebob kept yelling his goddamn name
But then, spongebob found Patrick with the old buddies, he just had wrinkles so he thought he was old. So then spongebob had wrinkles, so now they were old people. The end.

@Funnel Star Yeah but a lot of shows nowadays are good.
Steve ain’t the only creator that has put effort into a show. Don’t disrespect the others.

How so?
@Lance Boyle He should've known better about the industry he'll enter. :-(
Lance Boyle It may be his fault a bit, but it still doesn’t make any of Nicks decisions ethical or okay.

He would have been named SpongeBoy if not for a mop...God bless whoever named that mop SpongeBoy.
SpongeBob has the timeless humour of Loonie Toons. I mean the first 3 season of course.
seasons 4 and 5 had a feww episodes here and there that are really almost as quotable as 1-3. 6-8 and the amount of seasons nick allows to be aired now is the "rock bottom" point

I grew up with spongebob even though I was born in 2005. I still loved the older seasons even when I was like 8. It feels awful to see a show that formed the best memory’s from my childhood just treated like nothing. 2 spin-offs now, only 3 years after he died, I could tell that nick had a small smirk on there face then the dad of spongebob and my childhood slowly not being about to have input because of his condition. feels like a heart less from kingdom hearts, the body is there, but no heart.

RIP to Stephen Hillenburg. I remember the day he died and it was the first celebrity death that actually got to me. I mean this man created undoubtedly the biggest source of entertainment during my childhood and I am ever grateful for that. Thank You Stephen🙏🙏
I remember I had just barely walked into my spanish class, someone had gotten a notification from a news site and read it outloud. Everyone's mood in that room immediately dropped and we all couldn't focus well.
You know when you hear Stephen Hillenburg's ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean. You know a piece of your childhood went with him. Thank you to Stephen for your work in making the last incredible legacy to not only closing out the 90's with this Cartoon. But the last one we were fortunate to experiencing when it debuted on our televisions. Thank you Stephen Hillenburg and may you rest in peace as you'll always be in our hearts.
Hillenburg wanting the series to end after 2004 but Nick refused and kept it going until he died and still continuing after that is prolly the biggest bruh moment in cartoon history
I can't believe the voice actors and animators for sponge bob aren't protesting in love for the man who gave them amazing careers working on this show knowing his wish are being foiled due to greed and selfishness...worlds a sad place man dignity and pride, out the window for NickalodiAn. Booo
Frecklez Love It's pretty awful, and I'm sure a lot of the directors, animators, and voice actors are upset over this. But they don't have much of a chance fighting against a multi-million dollar television company. The voice actors might have a large impact if they were to protest it, but that's a pretty big risk against an international company they have most likely signed contracts with.
They have contacts they could get sued if they don’t follow it
It would have to take the death of one of the more prominent voice actors (God forbid) for Nickelodeon to truly stop.
Nickelodeon: Spongebob, you’re gay.
Stephen from heaven: No you ain’t.
I have nothing against the LGBTQ+ community but I hate the way they are using spongebob as a way to teach kids against the creators will. It would've been better if they left him as just a sponge without a preference, JUST A SPONGE

Nickelodeon was waiting for him to die, I'm definitely not watching any of the new spinoffs in honor of hillenburg, I hope they all flop.
Yes. I won’t be surprised if they made the mind of Mr. Crabs in real life and put it in the current owner of Nick
UnusualTrooper that’s a bit selfish...I’m sure Stephen would want the show to stay successful
Ty No Nickelodeon definitely spat on Stephen’s legacy.
Loneamaruq Yup just as Mr.Krabs made that nasty pasty

Thank you, Stephen Hillenburg, for making one of the greatest cartoons out there, and for making my childhood.
Maybe Hillenburg created Mr. Krabs in anticipation of nick milking his creation for money
Edit: Wow didn’t expect this to blow up
Nah, if I recall, Hillenburg had no idea his show would become famous.
Tendo64 pretty sure he just said that to make fun of Nick for milking Hillenburg’s show dry.

Austin Morrison I chuckled reading this
Yes, we will.
Nothing to do with anything...but I think the show is funny. Now, funny does not mean good...something can make you laugh and still be bad. Like in Despicable Me 2. That movie sucked, but the part where Gru had to snuff out that syrum stuff from the paintings made me laugh.
Pringles man what about Minions?
You think those greedy old fucks that run Nickelodeon actually care about what the fans want and morals? they just want money, and as long as Spongebob is still making them money they aren't gonna give him a finale.

I was still young when season 4 aired, and I immediately recognized that the quality had gone off. I remember getting excited for the "Dunces and Dragons" special, only to feel completely bummed out at the end.
Spongebob has been riding the reputation of its first 3 seasons for about 18 years now. That's how good they were. Many other shows would have fallen into obscurity once the quality dipped as badly as Spongebob's did.
I think season 4 and 5 were ok. I think season 4 was actually on par with the first three seasons until that good neighbors episode.
I loved seasons 4-6 and Dunces and Dragons was great imo.

Every time I hear the mentioning of Stephen Hillenburg passing away, I can't help but get emotional. The fact that Nickelodeon isn't planning on respecting his wishes is awful. He wouldn't want it, and he's the one who created the show. Why not accept his decision and let Spongebob go? It's really sad.
The only time they honored him was spongebobs birthday bash and that was it
Nickelodeon is milking a franchise that should have been put to rest years ago.
Promo Craft same here. Season one didn’t age well animation wise, but was where most of some of my favorite spongebob moments happened. But seasons 2-5 (the ones I watched recently) look fine to me.
Kinda a bad analogy in my opinion seeing as many games now are full of charm, I would compare this to cartoon network in the early 2010's versus now.
Cujoh I’m referring to the more cartoony like games... there are many games now with tons of charm but any cartoony looking games just don’t seem to work half the time. Only games that ever do is a few switch games.
