    I graduated ait years ago and I have yet to do my job, if you get stationed in a unit that has welding capabilities your lucky, and if you have machining capabilities your super lucky. I’ve been stationed on 3 different post in the last few years and not one has had any real welding machinery.
    So your definitely getting cross trained wether you want to or not. You’ll definitely be a part of Service & Recovery so you’ll be running the m984a4 wrecker and the m88a2.

      Reom One I’m in high school and been looking at mos’s that I might like but as of now I’m welding in high school & sounds like that stinks if you ain’t doing much work . Do you still get paid or you have to clock in to get full pay ?

    • @Chuys_Rd1
      @Chuys_Rd1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dion Rodriguez you still get paid regardless of the amount of work you do. Theirs no ‘clocking in’ A normal work schedule runs from 0900 - 1700 but may vary depending on your units mission.
      Joining the army as a welder is great if you want to get your certifications, which you can get when your in ait.
      Just don’t mess up and sign a 5+ year contract off the bat, start off with something light like 2-3 years if you can.

      @@Chuys_Rd1 how much can i make if i join the army as a welder (do i have to become a welder before joining?) and get deployed overseas? i heard being a military support welder in the middle east can pay up to $200,000

    • @Chuys_Rd1
      @Chuys_Rd1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Johnny Irvine everyone in the army makes the same amount, your pay will be based off the amount of time your in the army. Some will make more because they have certain schools ( ie Airborne ) but overall almost all soldiers are paid the same. You do not have to know about welding. In fact most people are clueless on welding but the army will send you to a 22 week long course and teach you all you need to know. You will probably never see 200,000 in the army. A civilian welder that’s contracted through the army and is deployed to a combat zone might make that amount but that’s someone who’s very experienced and probably has a military back ground.

      No, it's not hard to get the MOS 91 E, what is rare is going to a unit where you won't just be lumped in with all the other Maintenance platoon troops. I love welding/machining but this is quite possibly the most non existent job (not MOS, but actual day to day job) in the Army. I don't know why they don't just make one MOS for Service and recovery, and learn to be a track mechanic as well as a allied trade specialist.....but that would be too logical

    Joined as a 91E and it was a complete and utter waste of time. I was stationed at Fort Eustis, which is considered to be the best place for your MOS, and it was absolutely miserable. Chief Wheeler drove the shop into the ground, and only allowed certain people to do machining straight out of AIT. The rest became slaves to details. I regret choosing this MOS, and so does all of the other soldiers I went to AIT with. At other bases you'll have a more likely chance of working as a vehicle mechanic than you will ever have doing your job. I was also screwed out of my machining certs because I was put in night class. What a joke the Army is. When I left I had gained zero experience and skills in machining and welding and had no choice but to go back to school in order to obtain a job.

      @@jonoa2189 If you're lucky you can get your welding certs while attending the school and also the welding training, but you won't know how to read blueprints or build anything so your knowledge will be very minimal. I did not get a 20k bonus, and if you do any kind of MOS or join any branch you can get the GI Bill. Once you go to AIT that's it for your training. Good luck getting experience and learning your job.
