  • This is a deleted scene from The Godfather sourced from The Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980. This scene takes place between Clemenza, Rocco, and Paulie leaving Clemenza's house and the three pulling over to kill Paulie. In this scene, Paulie returns from scoping out a good place to go to the mattresses, and Clemenza goes to "call Sonny," in actuality buying a meal and picking up cannoli for his wife.

    If Clemenza had all the pasta, and the canolis in New York, then he must share them, or let others taste them. He must let us draw the Chianti from the cellar. Certainly he can present a bill for such a meal; after all... we are not Communists.

    In the novel Clemenza was the hothead when they started everything, tessio was the calm one and Vito was the smart one.
    Then clemenza became godfather to Sonny who was the hothead among the three brothers. Brilliant.

    note how he casually walks in to the backroom of the restaurant basically to the kitchen without being waited or bothered. He takes his hat and coat off as if he just came home from work and before he finishes putting up a bib, his food is prepared almost instantly and ready to eat.
    Clemenza is the very definition of a wise guy

    Letting Paulie cool his heels while he ate was to get him to drop his guard. He knew there was a possibility he might get hit
    and would have been nervous about being left alone in a car in a semi-secluded place with this new unknown character in the
    back seat.
    He probably felt that if he was going to get, it this would be it.
    When Clemenza came back without incident it was probably a huge relief and felt he had literally dodged a bullet.
    Which unfortunately put him at enough ease that Clemenza was able to carryout a much cleaner hit in a more preferable place.

      Clemenza enjoyed himself in everything he did. A good meal, fine wine, serving the family. His was a life spent earning and protecting all he had, and appreciating the Family for the opportunities he had been given to serve. There is NO WAY that such a person would jeopardize himself or that which is his by betraying the Family.

    I can’t believe how careless Coppola was with the the images of modern air conditioners reflecting off the glass of the scenes he was shooting. Take a look at the reflection across the street as Clemenza enters the restaurant. These modern AC units appear in a few scenes in GF 1 & 2. Sloppy.

    There are now a great many deleted scenes from 'The Godfather' on the TH-cam. What I find remarkable is that the producer and director would have allowed all of this effort, to say nothing of the costs involved, to go ahead and then to find inclusion of all scenes filmed would create a film which was too long. You'd think that they'd just read through the script, scene by scene, timing each, to arrive at a fairly accurate estimate of the time each scene would run, and a total length for the film. Then they could just delete scenes from the script to arrive at the targeted total running time.

    • @brucetucker4847
      @brucetucker4847 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's better to have too much footage than too little when you go to cut the film. More expensive that way, but if you were that concerned with having the film come in under budget, you wouldn't have FFC directing it.

      This car (41 Packard) was Clemenzas old car.. the wooden bumpers are on Clemenzas new 46 Cadillac ( black and silver) that he was polishing in the garage when Rocco rolled up in the Packard and walked into the garage. The Cadillac is visible again when the procession of cars ride along with the ambulance bringing Vito home from the hospital. I'm not 100% sure but I think that the car still has a 2 x 6 for a front bumper in those sequences
