  • This week, I am back as an Engagement Manager my management consulting job this week for one of my last stints before residency, while I am on Spring Break from Harvard Medical School. Super happy to be back in some warm weather in Miami.
    A lot of you have had questions how I've managed a full-time consulting job and full-time study (and switch back and forth), and I share a bit about how this has all happened.
    Come join me on a day in my life as a management consultant - click-bait title free! ;) Insta @richardjlu |. / richardjlu

    I'm glad you're back to posting. Thanks again for showing us what you do. I'm really interested in getting an MD MBA but still trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm thinking consulting and EM

      Thank you! EM is a good combo. My advice for whether to do an MBA (if you already are getting an MD), is to ask yourself which career paths (looking at examples of folks 10-20 years ahead of you) is most appealing and why the MBA is a useful tool to get there. You’re asking the right question!

    Richard, how are you a medical student and consultant at (pls let me know). How is that even possible? I thought it was a sarcasm at first. Haha. I think it deserves a video on its own.

      It’s definitely unusual! I explain it towards the end of this video :)

    Congrats on your match!
    I would love to hear if you plan on going back to consulting or a related job.
    Also to hear your opinion if you think it is useful for someone to go into consulting for 2-3 years post-residency/fellowship. If they don't want to be in consulting long-term, but to learn the skills of a consultant. If not, are there other means to learn these skills?

    • @doctor-rich
      @doctor-rich  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think typically you would invest the 2-3 years post residency/fellowship if you know you want to make a transition to spend the predominant amount of your career time outside of clinical medicine (80%-100%).
      It’s hard to maintain both! You can certainly learn the skills in other ways - through starting your own ventures, postgrad studies, other part time contracted employment as a consultant (case by case basis so you’d have to look up!)

    Sir, I heard that the employees of the consulting firms can take unpaid leave of one month in a year without reason... can someone choose the month of 1 month leave.. Or the month is previously decided by the company... Plz reply sir ... Plz plz....

    I'm super intrigued by how you were able to get hired despite being a medical student, what was the hiring process like?

    • @doctor-rich
      @doctor-rich  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I did a summer internship in college, and deferred my return offer for 6 years until after Oxford and halfway through Harvard.

      @@doctor-rich I didn’t know they allow deferrals for that long?
