The fact that the entire vet office felt compelled to send you a message truly speaks volumes about how big of an impact Sagan had on many people's lives. Yet more evidence to add to an already long list.
Also, I'm not gonna lie: for a second there, I thought you were going to say "For dinner, we had cookies".

Mal: Do you want a cookie?
Stephen: no we have enough junk food and sweets. someone just sent us choco-
Mal: It's too late. I got cookies
I'm glad this little moment made you guys smile. Keep taking your baby steps

Sometimes I feel like stephen is sorry that he's grieving, it's okay.
Also rather than say back to 'normal' what about making a new 'normal'. You can't go back, you can go forwards
For example - My new normal is to talk about what stresses me out, I never used to but since now I'm depressed I simply can't hold onto emotions like that anymore...

I don’t know why I feel a little happier seeing the vlogs getting shorter. The vlogs getting shorter means less, rambling? it means your kinda getting back into the swing of things. Healing takes time but you both are doing amazing and working through it in such a healthy way. You guys have all of our support

Normal is not without pain, there are pains that never really go away, 'Normal" is just the point where you've adapted to them, to not feel them so sharply. Pain is life, therefore normal is pain.
Things "Returning to normal" is not pretending the pain isn't there, It's growing the strength that it doesn't control you. Returning to normal is not an affront to their memory, no, it is that which their memory desires.
Glad to see you two getting better Georgs.

I wanted to share a quote for you guys and everyone in the comments. It's one of my favorite quotes from my favorite show. "The steps you take don't need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction" - Jemma Simmons (Agents of Shield) stay strong you guys and take your healing process as slow as you need to. 11:39 We do that too, at our clinic. Oftentimes it's very much not just the pet parents that grieve for a lost friend, but the vet staff as well. From the other side of things, I can definitely say it always hurts to lose a special girl or boy like Sagan. My continued thoughts and prayers for both of you

Mal flaunting her cookie throughout the last shot of the vlog has me hungry for a cookie and it's already a bit late for a snack, I'm off to bed in a couple hours. I'll have to pick up some cookies on my way back from class tomorrow. Curses, Mal!

Hey Stephen, hey Mal. Hope everything’s ok! No matter how long it takes to get back to normal, we will ALL be here. Waiting. Even if you skip or miss a vlog day. We will still be here. No Matter what! There’s a quote from the creator of RWBY who died in 2015 that says “Keep Moving Forward” and I live by that. No matter what happens, we move forward, learn our lessons and adapt, but still move forward in life.
On a side note, has anyone else gotta a bunch of the cat vlogs in their recommended??

The fact that the vet office went through all that trouble was really sweet. It’s something I wouldn’t have expected. It shows that they truly cared about and loved Sagan as we all did. It went beyond simply being their job. We need more people like that in this world.
And I have to agree with Stephen. Even if it’s cheap, a cookie, chocolate, some type of sweet does make you happy. It’s proven by science. If it’s not then science is wrong. I’m not even a sweets person, but every now and then you can’t beat them.

I saw a very touching metaphor for grief. Imagine a box with a pain button and a ball almost the size of the box. Every time that ball hits the button, the grief and sorrow come back. Over time, the ball starts getting smaller and smaller and hits the button less and less. It's never easy, but it gets better slowly. All the best Stephen and Mal.

The part of Stephen talking about the package from the vet, especially about the candle has made me tear up again. It was so nice of them to send something like that. I'm a really emotional person and sometimes it feels like I react to just about anything by crying. And animals just are my weak point in every way.

It was really really nice and happy-making to see you (and Mal as well) getting excited about food again. You said “a cookie will always make you happy” but a few days ago it wouldn’t have at all, even the little cookie bit. It’s nice to see some of your usual self take a peek past the giant blanket of grief that crushed you, even for just a quick baby look.
Hope you continue to get as excited about your food as Sagan was about Kepler’s.

Aww! That was so nice of them to give you the card and the candle! I’m sure that massage helped, too!
I don’t mean to get too philosophical, but the way I see it, tears are how we release our most passionate emotions. Happiness, sadness, pain, anger, fear... Tears are very important in our lives so that we can convey those passionate emotions that we bottle up inside and try to act accordingly.
Listen to those tears. They may be trying to tell you something that could change your life for the better. Lots of love. ❤️

I get that "Oh... You are Tense!" Statement myself every single time I go to the Chiropractor.
Lots of Stress, and/or sometimes "constant" stress can actually really block your muscles out.
Hopefully the Massage helped you two. In normal circumstance it would be better to just be pressed than litterally twisted in half to replace you displaced bones or unlocking your muscles sometimes.
But yeah I share the feelings; you have been through a lot... especially in the last few years, and I wish you two to get at least some respite time for a good while from now on.
    *Crosses-fingers*.

Being able to see how you've grieved has helped me get through another layer of my grief. I've been fighting through problems for a long time now, unfortunately without the comforts of someone I could intimately trust. What really helped me the most was when you kept using the word "trauma" to identify your problems. It made me finally accept that what I've been through was actually traumatic, and "not so bad because someone else has it worse". Because I was able to see what healthy coping and help looks like, I was able to move forward in my fight for wellness. I appreciate you and Mal sharing these tender moments with us!

Bless the High Heel Gang and their kindness; you’re all awesome.
Also, random fact about me that will hopefully make Stephen and Mal laugh a little: For some reason when someone else touches certain spots on my back it tickles, my dad has this too and neither of us knows why.
The only annoying thing about this is that it makes it really hard to get a back massage, someone I know offered to give me one once but they stopped because I jerked because it tickled and they thought they’d hurt me; obviously I explained what had happened to them but they were still hesitant to continue... thus there was no massage for me.

yeah vet's office are great about sending condolence cards. But WOW-- it was so cool that everyone signed the card with messages. I'm glad today had some positive moments for the two of you. I'm also happy to see the progress in returning to normalcy. There's no set time as to when that will be, but that's ok. Just take one day at a time, and at your own pace. You're doing your best, and that's more than enough. Unfortunately, I'm a west coast sleepy baby, so I'm never able to make the Breakfast Streams. It's so good see Stephen and Mal on the mend. I'm continuously impressed by seeing how open and honest you are about your emotions and thoughts in the recent vlogs, and I'm glad that sharing that kind of information is helpful for you. I wish you the best of luck in discovering what your new "normal" is going to shape into, and it's comforting to know that you have tons of people to be there with you for every step of the way.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to donate to Stephen and Mal's regular vet? I'm thinking maybe it would help them afford some equipment that they don't currently have. I'd love to be able to help, they seem very nice and thoughtful!

Just you reading the small note that came with the candle made me start crying again. I think that I can say this for everyone when I say that we are all going through the grieving process in one way or another. I’m reminded of the “Rainbow Bridge” poem that we were given with my cat’s ashes. It was one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever read in my life, but it almost makes you feel like you aren’t alone, if that makes any sense. I’m hoping that my kitty Mercury somehow found Sagan, and they were able to share stories, and meet other pets. (I’m sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but I had such a connection with my cat as well.) There are times where I’ve just started crying all of a sudden, and you can’t predict these things. We just have to continue to put one foot in front of the other, because that is what our furry friends would want of us. I’m going into college this year, and I’m hoping to study zoology or something similar, so that other friendly creatures get the same amount of love that Sagan was given. Thank you. ❤️

I’ve never been a massage fan. Anxiety makes me hate being touched unless I really want someone to touch me. My current vet my wife volunteered there throughout high school and goes back every once in a while. Our vet was amazing when my wife had to put down her cat and she cried with us. It was difficult to return to a different normal and I still get sad every once in a while but the baby step process really helped rather than try and rush through the grief.

Considering this is my first comment here ever (hi!), I'll be a narcissist and say that I've watched from time to time starting maybe late-2012 to early-2013, often watching a couple months at a time before not watching for a year or two (or three or four), and going in cycles like that, haha. I know this is really late, and maybe I'm dredging up bad times, so forgive me if that's the case, but I absolutely love how you refuse to use the phrase "returning to normal" in the wake of tragedy, and your reason is exactly what I also believe, which is that it sort of diminishes what has happened and gives the idea of "moving on" as if nothing happened. For myself, I've gone through a mildly similar process (though not one nearly as difficult, so I don't mean to lessen what happened here a year ago), and I'd often be told to "move on (relationship stuff, as you can guess)," but I always hated that. Now, I can say that I've found the perfect riposte to that phrase, as well as the other phrase of "returning to normal," which I get from my absolute favorite show ever, Attack on Titan, and that phrase is "moving forward." It acknowledges what has happened, doesn't shunt it, but still shows that life marches on, respecting the changes of life. I just wanted to share that, as I hope you or someone else finds this helpful, just as the chad Eren Jaeger helped me. Much love from Florida, finally commenting here after years of lurking!

"I won't look too far ahead,
it's too much for me to take.

And, yes, Cookies (and many other sweets like chocolate) can help pad the pain slightly. Something about the things inside it gives off some endorphins and such. That is why it is often seen in shows and movies when young girls get dumped. It is, legit, a comfort food.
Just don't get in the habit of using it as an escape goat. It is a good crutch, but not to be constantly used.

I've seen quite a few people speak up about their own losses that have coincided with Sagan's. Sadly, it looks like it's my turn...yesterday, I got the call from my wife that her grandpa had passed. It was a long time coming and he wasn't in any pain, but we still lost a great guy ❤️

Some time, I'm going to have to compose my thoughts and send a letter, or write something here, on how much you two mean to the world, and what your work has meant to me. Normal will be different, so don't worry about making things exactly the same as they used to be. Keep moving on, and know that we're all here for you whenever you need it. After all, even if I am just a name on the internet, my user-name here was picked for a reason... to honour my hero and the ultimate wingman, Wedge Antilles.
Just don't worry about the 006 bit. Things won't go so well if I play to that.

I think, the worst thing for me is that sometimes I just keep thinking that Sagan is just off camera somewhere, that he's okay. I'm sorry that y'all have to deal with losing him.

Like I've said in yesterday's vlog, I'm happy to see that you're slowly getting back into normalcy again. Tho that makes me wonder: I know you've said you're taking it one day at a time, and I'm not trying to rush things up or anything (far from that, you guys take all the time you need to heal), but have you thought about when you'll return making content for StephenPlays? I'm sorry if it comes out as a rude question, but I was just curious.

He talked about it a bit on Tuesday's stream. Basically he doesn't feel up to being entertaining yet so it's still just "whenever he feels like he can" but there's stuff recorded for at least another week or two

I have never had a massage, I think i'd like to someday feel like it would be a rather relaxing experience. on a different matter, you could always just say something like Getting back into the Groove of things rather than things returning to normal. it means more or less the same thing but depending on how you look at it could be a better way to word it.

whenever you can invest in one of these, you should do so in one of those massage guns or a good quality infrared massager because bOY are those things amazing

I hate massages, I don’t like being touched and the atmosphere makes me super uneasy.

I got a massage a couple of years ago and I couldn’t move my neck for a month. For some reason massaged hurt me.

    • @Alfonso162008
      @Alfonso162008 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kassyeevans9884 that all depends on the person doing it and the kind of massage you're getting. In the wrong hands it can truly mess you up. I remember my mother went to get a massage last year and when she returned she had to lay down in bed for hours cause she felt super bad after getting it (though my mother has several health issues, so my guessing is that it had more to do with that than the professionalism of the massager, but it's just one example of how it can inadvertently mess up things).

Didn't Masae gift you guys something one year that was both Sagan and Kepler made out of clay or something? I remember her talking about not seeing Kep's left side very much in vlogs. If you can find that laying around, or at least a favorite toy of Sagan's, it might be a nice touch to sit it next to the memorial candle. Lots of love to you guys ❤
