It might just be me, but it looks like Kepler _really_ wants to stay by your side at all times now. There's an obvious reason why, of course, but I remember you talking about how he was usually the more distant of the two, so it feels like he's trying to take up Sagan's mantle as the "clingy cat" for your sake. To fill the hole in your hearts as best he can, if you will. What a good boy indeed.
Cats tend to stick by their owners in difficult times, they can sence your emotions in a way so if you are feeling weak or sad, they might be more willing to stand by your side to try and cheer you up I'm sick right now and my cat has come to my bed, as he usually does, but he stays in the bed with me, instead of just receiving a quick petting session Pets are really supportive of their owners and I think that's why we love them so much, they just provide joy where sometimes we can't find it
Pralenka Man Yes. Some also say dogs can smell Diabeties in someone. They and cats can tell to other health problems.Being the body can give off smell, oil, sweat that they can tell to. Granted I think most know their noses are supperior to humans.
Pets are more intelligent than people think. In my experience, they WILL know when something's up and when the time for play is over and when time for help is needed. My dog, as much as my family makes him the butt of jokes (for... Good reason, though) is almost always asking for play... And is big enough to get it. Once, though, my mother fell and got hurt, and in ANY other circumstance of someone down on the ground, he'd be licking and being obnoxious. But that time, he was out in front of our house as if he was calling me.
If you want some of my personal experiences with pets and their amazing capacity for feelings, I left a comment about a couple involving one of my cats. Our furry companions are truly amazing creatures...
@@AllenTax my cats multiple times have and would lead me to my mother whenever she would pass out from having low blood sugar. Heck whenever I'd call for my siblings my cat winter (sadly i no longer have winter. But i still have her sister Luna) would run to them then back to me as a way to tell them someone needed them. She'd do it for my mother too whenever she'd call for someone she'd run and try to get someone. Animals are very intelligent creatures. And at least to me my relationship with my cats are more than just a pet and owner but rather that of a parent and child. My cat Luna will always always be my baby girl
I am where you guys were a week ago. We lost my dog today. I really understand now when you said that you don't want to eat and just eating because you have to. I was in Breakfast Stream this morning after a long absence and a few people reached out and offered their love and support. You guys have the best community. My dog was fourteen and my first dog never would I have expected to lose him exactly a week after you guys lost Sagan. He declined so fast in three short days. I'm not even sure my other dog has noticed Rex is gone. The house is way too quiet. Striving for Marginally Better Everyday.
Hey Stephen, there are tooth brushes you can buy which have a light which comes on if you're brushing your teeth too hard. It sounds like you're having the same issue I did and getting one of those did wonders for my teeth/gums so might help you too
Thanks for the suggestion. I might try that as well. My dentist says there's two different areas that are slightly receding because I brush to hard, but I never really feel like I am or forget to consciously think about it when I am brushing. That light is a good idea.
I'm glad to see Kepler is doing well. I've been pretty worried about him since there's not really anyway to explain to him why Sagan is no longer around, so he's not really used to ever being alone.
watching the vlogs from the past week has really helped me process the passing of my childhood cat basically a year ago today. glad you guys are here and sharing this extremely difficult process with us all, i'm thankful to have had this comforting corner of friends on the internet for the past 8 years i've been watching :)
Is anybody else glad to see the vlogs getting shorter and shorter? :) It’s strange but I feel like the video lengths have also been showing that the healing process is getting better and better.
That last quote at the top got me. It’s never easy, and walking the path can be hard to do, but you just gotta look forward and keep walking. I’m glad you guys are able to slowly move through this, it’s an inspiration to people. “Marginally better every day” or however it was worded, that’s beautiful. Stephen, Mal, you two are wonderful and I am relieved to see you guys pushing despite it all
Question: on the tube it says not to use it for more than 6 months (so like switch on and off between brands every tube). Do you think this is necessary or have you found just using sensodyne is okay?
@@lxryn I think that's just for that specific tube of toothpaste. As long as you can go through a tube in less than 6 months, and you should be, then you can keep using Sensodyne.
I get the 3 packs from sams tbh. Really good toothpaste. And I find it doesn’t leave that weird taste in your mouth that makes orange juice taste horrible
I sound like a broken record with the number of times I have said "I am glad to see...", but I will say see you both eat and something sound good makes me happy. I'm also not surprised to see you both dealing with this as well as you all have...You are both strong and have good senses of humor, you have each other and you have a great network of support, both directly with your family and friends and somewhat indirectly with the community you have created. Quick strikes hurt the hardest, dull aches hurt the longest. I remember when my dad was dealing with cancer when I was in high school, watching him degrade like he did hurts as bad today as it did over a decade ago...but the pain of his passing has lessen, it's still there, but it is a D4 dagger compared to 2d6 great sword (sorry my DnD nerd is showing). My apologies if I ramble or say too much, I normally lurk, but I wanted to say as a fairly new member of the community that I was here to help carry the burden, even if it is just a little. Also did that Burrito come with a shell? I am imagining something the size of stephen's arm. Anyway, thank you for reading my rambling if you made it this far.
I know it's a weird time. But nothing sums that up to me more than the hashtags in order being "Dentist Cat Burrito" Also wouldn't be the worst band name.
I'm glad that the end card is starting to come back. You guys have really been through it and to see you joyous and smiling again really speaks to what you've gone through. I could hear the happiness returning in your voices as the days go by. Love you lots Stephen, Mal, and little cow Keppie~
A "giant burrito", also known as "so big it wouldn't fit in one container and we had to split it up and put it in two". Wow. Guessing there were leftovers? :P Learning that it's okay to laugh, smile, and be happy is something that just comes with the grief process. It takes different amounts of time for everyone to get to that point, but it happens. I know you'll feel guilt over being happy at times when you 'should be grieving'. There's no cookie cutter way of grieving- everyone does it differently. Just know that, as you said in this video and before, Sagan would want happiness for you. ❤
Every vlog seems to be just a little bit easier for you guys and I’m glad. You’re both such friendly and happy folks that it hit your entire community like a wrecking ball when this disaster was set in your laps. We grieved with you and I can only hope being able to share that feeling with so many other people has helped your hearts heal more easily.
I know how you both feel. I lost my grandma January 1st and it still hurts knowing she’s gone and I can’t call her or even see her again. My heart goes out to the both of you and I hope you both come out strong from this situation. Sagan would definitely want you both to be happy and continue living your lives to the fullest.
I'm glad to see you guys restoring even a little normalcy. Having been through the loss of a pet, I know that it's such a hard thing to go through. Wishing you guys all the best
You've always been looking out for Sagan and Keppy. Now, it's as if Sagam told Keppy everything and in a way, both of them are taking care of you. It's great seeing the vlogs get more cheerful day by day. It's what he would want you to be. In memory of him, he wants you to be happy.
A thing that might help with your receding gums, is moving the bristles in a circular motion. It's not so rough on the gums as brushing from side to side but still cleans up more plaque and is less intensive on the wrist than brushing from top to down. I'm glad to see that things are looking up. I've been crying with you guys for the past few days, Sagan really was incredibly loved all over the world. Luckily Keppy is sticking by your side, being the most adorable thing possible
I am really happy you guys are doing better. Just keep in mind that the harsh, depressing emotions could come back without warning. It isn't a "I'm feeling better, no more pain!" That just isn't how emotions work.
Its wonderful to see you guys slowly getting better, having an appetite again to me is the biggest sign that you're returning to normalcy, it wont be the same but itll be okay 💕
I'm glad to see you guys laughing and smiling again. I hope soon you can look back on all your memories with your friend with warmth, and remember all the joy he brought to your lives
yeah, dentists can be kinda repetitive with recommendations. I heard for YEARS from my dentist about brushing along the gum line and flossing. At least they think I'm flossing now cuz that hasn't come up. But they recommended ProNamel cuz I was having acid erosion issues. I'd since changed over to Crest because it's slightly cheaper and it does the same thing practically. Also- just all those cute Kepler moments. He's such a good cat. And it was kinda funny how you said he wasn't so smart about the birds- shows the difference between the two cats.
❤️❤️❤️ wanted to leave some love and thanks. I’m dealing with Serious Pet Health Issues right now and I feel like I’m surviving the grieving process with you guys. It’s helpful, I feel less alone in my sadness and anxiety about his passing and the hole it will leave. Every day is a new adventure, ups, downs and all. Give Keppy some pets for me. ❤️❤️❤️
I know my mom had that same problem with brushing too hard for a while. A softer toothbrush can definitely help with that since changing a brushing routine is easier said than done
Thanks for the reminder to not brush too hard because I think I struggle with that as well... Anyways, I'm glad to see you two smiling and laughing more ♥️
My friend turned me onto using Oral B electric toothbrushes (the rechargeable kind). There’s a LED light that turns bright red to warn you that you’re applying too much pressure. Hey Stephen, you should look into getting a burst toothbrush. They're a little spendy, at $70, but they have a lifetime warranty and it's well worth it. The bristles are really soft and cleans and brightens your teeth and gums better than any other brush. And the brush will automatically adjust the intensity accordingly to how hard you press. And you can opt to get head replacements sent to you every month which you can cancel at any time.
Use same toothpaste. That you want to be more safe,Heath wise with your teeth and mouth. There is the auto sanatize light for the tooth brush heads. Although If I switch it my toothpaste. It makes my teeth hurt. So stopped the change.
I would offer similar advice to what Chaz (or was it Jeff?) gave you about the chair- A comfortable, sturdy toothbrush that can last a while and also not make your gums run away in fear would probably be a solid investment, regardless of price
I’ve said it a few times this week, but Kepler really is a good boy. He wants comfort and I’m sure he can feel both of you need it too. I think measurements for the giant burrito would be a great idea. What’s giant is relative. If I ordered one meal and it came in two containers, I’d assume something went horribly wrong.
I used to brush my teeth hard like you Stephen until both my mom and my dentist said that it’s not good because your gums start receding. I’m glad you guys are doing better each day. Please stay strong. Also, that burrito looks delicious 😋
You said you are coming to terms with seagen being gone i think the next appropriate step is to now celebrate his life and let the memories of him live on forever
I'm glad to see Keppy seems to have adjusted well. I was worried about him when the news broke. But it seems that the motivation to be there for you two has really helped him adjust. To be honest, it seemed like he understood entirely what had happened pretty quickly. I know dogs can detect things wrong with people, so now that I think about it, it's... Not implausible that Kep was prepared. I admittedly don't know if felines can detect cancer and other such problems, but grief IS something they know. I know from experience that cats that don't like being handled unless they want to be handled will put up with it if someone's grieving. Ivy... Was really good at that. Come to think of it, Ivy didn't seem to phased when my first dog passed away and they were very close... We think he also passed from cancer... Then again, I had a scout trip the day he passed, so I suppose I didn't see how Ivy reacted to his passing very well. But she DID go out and sit in the rain at his grave on the anniversary of his death, so she KNEW something. And rain wasn't a problem for her, mind you, so she was just out by his grave... For the sake of it. Animals are amazing creatures...
I am curious if your bringing his ashes home. I think it took about a week for us to bring my puppy's ashes home (our cats are in the back garden with headstones since we live in a permanent house to live in) But Lady was to big so her ashes live next to the fire place.
His bird watching channel ♥️ Glad you ordered a GIANT burrito and now have some for leftovers. Also, did you get Sagan cremated? Is that what's happening in tomorrow's vlog? Let's wait and see ♥️
As a Tex Mex I'll never get used to seeing sour cream with Mexican food. It's like ranch with pizza it's just odd to me. (Yes commenter I'm aware that it's the norm but where i'm from it's not so yeah).
I highly doubt that. It is way too soon for that. It would be a very impulsive decision and most people will say going out and getting a 'replacement' is not beneficial to you or the animal involved
Just split the other half of the burrito tomorrow for lunch, what's the problem here? You always make it sound like excess food is an issue, and I can never agree with you on that.
It might just be me, but it looks like Kepler _really_ wants to stay by your side at all times now. I'm sorry for your loss. Rex sounds like he was really special.
I’m a little over a month from where you are. You’re going to feel better than you feel today. Not perfect, but better. I promise. 💜
I feel like Kep is making sure you both are taken care of. Which is why he went immediately to your lap when you sat down. Comfort for both of you.
With all the silly cute things Stephen and Mal are telling us about Kepler I think it’s safe to say Keppy is a certified licensed baby.
Yeah
"Giant Burrito" sounds like an early vlog title.
Especially since they went to Taco Bell a lot back then.

I'm glad Kepy was shown like that at the beginning , such a positive attitude.
Proud of you Stephen and Mal. I know you will continue to weather the storm and find joy again, and Sagan is with you in spirit for that ride.

Stephen with food for days following that giant burrito. You guys keep on keeping on. You’re fantastic and great people and pet owners!
It is good to see you two beginning to heal. It is really sobering when the vlogs are so sombering. Still sending love

I'm glad things are getting better for you guys
My friend turned me onto using Oral B electric toothbrushes (the rechargeable kind). There’s a LED light that turns bright red to warn you that you’re applying too much pressure. Depending on the version you get, you can also control the speed/power of the spinning. There are also many different types of brush heads available. I got a great deal on a 2-pack at Costco.
Hey Stephen, you should look into getting a burst toothbrush. They're a little spendy, at $70, but they have a lifetime warranty and it's well worth it. Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but "dental reminder" is a solid pun haha
LAUGHTER!
WE HAVE LAUGHTER!
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!
He's a VERY good boy!💘❤ Super Keppy!
Giant burrito needs to become a thing on the vlog. Lol
Glad to see you improving.
I can hear more of your normal selves again, I can hear how much better you are now.
That's a Matt Stonie burrito!
I read giant burrito and thought Kepler was going to be wrapped in a blanket. not for consumption, ofc goodness forbid
2:06 there's a good amount of salt in that pepper there, Stephen
You said you are coming to terms with seagen being gone i think the next appropriate step is to now celebrate his life and let the memories of him live on forever
I live where we have the anaconda burrito that was on buzzfeed
yeah I have sensitive teeth cause I do the hardcore brushing too XD

Cats can detect things just like dogs can, it is just much more difficult to train a cat to inform you of things unlike a dog.
@@hallaloth3112 I figured. Also, cats are... Less cooperative in general than a dog.
Kep’s soooo cute and lovable
I am curious if your bringing his ashes home. I think it took about a week for us to bring my puppy's ashes home (our cats are in the back garden with headstones since we live in a permanent house to live in) But Lady was to big so her ashes live next to the fire place.
angelsinthewindow I suspect that was today(tomorrow’s vlog)
Now I want a giant burrito...
Good lord, I want a burrito that big
Hardcore brushing XD
What restaurant served that GIANT burrito?
At least you still have one good boi
Clearly Kepler decided you where a giant Kepler colored kitty and needed to be cuddled with.
Keppy is a good boi
120/10 would pet
My bets on Pluto joining the fam ;)
His bird watching channel ♥️ Glad you ordered a GIANT burrito and now have some for leftovers. Also, did you get Sagan cremated? Is that what's happening in tomorrow's vlog? Let's wait and see ♥️
My first thought was funeral?
Oh god is tomorrow (today) Sagans burial?
Yay finally a Let’s be back tomorrow shall we! ❤️
I've gotten a lot better at taking care of my teeth, I'm not perfect at but I'm a lot better than I use to be.
burrito, but u l t r a
TIL I brush too hard
How old is Kepp again?
Seven, should turn eight this year. He was born in 2012.
7 years and 7 months if i count right.
As a Tex Mex I'll never get used to seeing sour cream with Mexican food. It's like ranch with pizza it's just odd to me. (Yes commenter I'm aware that it's the norm but where i'm from it's not so yeah).
I think tomorrow they might be getting another cat....that's just me though.
I highly doubt that. It is way too soon for that. It would be a very impulsive decision and most people will say going out and getting a 'replacement' is not beneficial to you or the animal involved
Pretty sure it's Sagan's ashes
Just split the other half of the burrito tomorrow for lunch, what's the problem here? You always make it sound like excess food is an issue, and I can never agree with you on that.
Do they? They seem perfectly okay with leftovers and are just amused by the massive load of unexpected food
