The reason for the Teslas there is cuz there is most likely a Tesla dealer near by cuz they park unsold Tesla 1 not enough space for the constant arrival cars. 2 trouble balancing production and sales
A classmate told me about this mall and I begged my mom to take me there. In 1977 there was no knowledge of future GPS. I guided her along with my map drawn on notebook paper. We drove forever. She was aggravated at us finding nothing but farm fields. She began threatening to turn around. There I screamed, there it is. We finally located our destination. A destination that we would visit again and again.
This is so exciting for me. I haven’t seen this place since I was a 18 year old on my first long term move from my home state. I was blown away with how much more expensive the mall looked, compared to even the nicest mall in my hometown. My eyes dancing with dazzling awe, only solidified the fact I was a hillbilly in a big city.
This mall was so important to me growing up in the 80's. One of my very first jobs I had, I worked at Bath and Body Works during the '93 flood and I lived in St. Charles County at the time. Had to take Highway 70 just to get here. Made pennies on the dollar, but worth it. I am so sad that this building is being torn down. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. Chesterfield was the place to be, I remember in the 80's a German deli, a tobacco store that you could smell several stores away, a cafeteria style restaurant and a Walgreens inside. Wish they could have revived this building.
The exodus of stores actually began in 2012 when TWO outlet malls opened in Chesterfield Valley and the inline stores began closing…. Old Navy moved to the valley, both The Gap and Banana Republic moved to West County and opened outlets in the valley… Houlihan’s restaurant closed… American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister Co all closed their stores in the mall and opened outlet locations in the valley
Love that The Staenberg Group owns one of the outlets malls and half of it is already being torn down due to vacancies. Hope Downtown Chesterfield fairs better.

Thanks for this, great video and my favorite mall! Will miss it greatly 😮💨To help fill in some blanks: Tesla rents out the parking lot as overflow storage for the dealership in Chesterfield Valley. That restaurant was California Pizza Kitchen, they used to have a huge pizza oven in there that they sold at auction, thus all the destruction. Mall is still there, they're taking their time tearing it down. The wheelchairs were left from a estate auction that took place in that wing before it closed. Have two of those Chesterfield Mall beach balls! That hodge podge area was just a storage area, some of the older stores were rented out as storage units - parts of it was part of the estate stale I mentioned before. Correct with the walls, the blocked off the Dillard's wing and the Sears wing across from that. All the courts were used for pickleball, they were very popular! I have the blueprints for the AMC, and a pair of theater chairs from there. HA! Own that barricade in front of the escalators with the AMC Area closed to the public signs. That V Stock was their most profitable location in St. Louis, they were sad to have to close down. They were supposed to be part of the new Downtown Chesterfield, but plans changed when Dillard's challenged them to keep their building. Was able to eat at Cheesecake Factory on their last day. Local hospital rented some space there around Covid for vaccinations and other uses later. They auctioned off most of the mannequins. That store with the Transformer was The Neutral Zone, it was an arcade and old toy store. All those old arcade stuff was from Neutral Zone. Sad they left all the books, they were supposed to be donated. It was a Spencer's, they rented out the space to a family for storage, they gave stuff away right before it closed. Let me know if any other questions!
For a very short time (being prepped for a promotion to another city), I served as a participating Asst Mgr at the S.G. Adams store there. I actually rented an apartment within about 5 minutes of the mall (on Steamboat Lane in Ballwin). Many great memories. Thank you so much for sharing.
The center court with the carousel then pickleball courts was even better up until late 1999 when the center court was a series of fountains and sunken seating areas with plants
I was so excited to see this come up on your channel. This was my mall growing up. I actually went this summer to visit one last time. It's amazing to me how fast this mall emptied out even being one of the ones shopping in the Valley instead. Thank you for this video!
OMG! There is so much money that could be made from things left behind. I don't understand why they didn't take all their inventory when they left. I couldn't leave all that behind to be trashed. Those were pinball, not ping pong ball machines. The stuffed animals are beanie babies. So much stuff I would love to have.
Thought the mall was closed to the public? So anyone can still get in there? I seen fencing up about two weeks ago with a security guard on the parking lot.
It's in the process of being demolished now. My wife and I went to this mall only once when it was still open, and we went to V-Stock. The workers there kept an eye on us and we didn't feel welcomed at all. I always preferred Mid Rivers Mall and I hope that mall never closes. It's not too dead though, on the weekends it's pretty busy.

I think this isn't just down to online shopping. Sure, it's part of the reason, but unqualified staff (or no statt at all) at these stores is a reason to avoid them. Why bother if the service is equal and prices are equal but you can just go online instead?
Hi Rick!❤ Thank you for taking us through this mall, I think my favorite part was the Cheesecake Factory even though I’ve never ate there everything looked so cool in there. That’s really strange how they are digging up the plants and leaving them there 😞
Oh and on the plants, the reason they were dug up is because they sold the ones that were still alive, tried to salvage what they could from the others.
Maybe they're controlling the supply by stashing then like that, or maybe Elon is just too cheap to pay for actual storage lots. Or maybe there's not enough rich people to shell out 100k for that monstrosity so they're hiding them so it looks like the dealerships can't keep them in stock. Who knows. 🤷🏼♀️
Fantastic video!!! I grew up in Troy, Missouri and my grandma took me to Chesterfield mall several times a month throughout the 80’s, it was so fun. I remember a small food shop that served authentic German food, my grandma loved eating there. Thank you so much for a last walk through of a special place.
I hate that they left those arcade monitors and machines there. The star wars arcade machine is pretty rare I think and of course they don't make the tubes anymore so its a shame if those good ones are lost. Arcade machines don't feel the same with an lcd in them.

It was torn down that same year. That had a General Cinema that closed and torn down, too. It was a nice place to go to the movies. It had multiple screens, too. It had been remodeled in the 80’s. I haven’t been inside a mall for a long time.
When I moved to St Louis in 94 I want to this mall for a job interview at the Disney Store. Loved this mall. It was big and had all the stores needed for a great shopping day. Didn't get the job because I was too far away in Crestview and driving there would have been too much. But I went there at times. Sorry see these wonderful malls slowly die.
I'm surprised our local mall is still open. We had Dillard's, Macy's, Sears and JCPenny's at anchors, now only the JC is still there and it's sad looking. Car dealerships with overstock tend to use/rent other parking lots for storage. Atleast that's what they do around me. A car dealership near me currently has teslas, Ford suvs and trucks at an abandoned motorsports store.
So much money thrown away that big companies dont care about. I also think that cheaper overseas factories that American companies use to make more money from customers and lower quality products.
It is people in each community to strive to keep their mall open. The people now in each community has chosen to move on with their own lives and neglect their own mall and that is how the mall gets ingnored and full of mold. It is time for the local city counil to buy the property and tear it down and turn it in to beautiful green land.
I believe the fate of all malls could probably be summed up buy outlandish monthly lease payments for stores. The exact same nonsense with apartment rental landlords today. You should be able to afford an apartment while you save your money to buy a home but they're so godda** expensive that you get trapped into living in an apartment forever unless you inherit money or a home. The malls were a wonderful place to be around people and socialize and now everyone's ass is sitting at home ordering on Amazon. What a shame, greed destroys everything
This was a great "third place" to visit during my "turn of the century" high school years. Back then, it was firing on all cylinders and the future looked bright for the mall. Unfortunately, the last two and a half decades were not kind to this mall. In my opinion, the mall died due to: 1. Customer disposable income shrinking to the point to where people could not afford "mall prices" anymore. (AKA rampant greedflation cannibalized their core customer base) 2. Tenants went elsewhere after City of Chesterfield approved two massive outlet malls around 2010 just a mile or two west of the mall. While both projects successfully killed the mall, they were not super successful in the longer term (one is currently demolishing and rebranding itself due to persistent vacancy issues). 3. People seem to have less free time than in decades past to hang out in "third places." Companies hate "high overhead" activities like hiring people for manual labor and maintaining a store front these days. Put these two factors together and you get an almost magnetic attraction to online shopping despite what is actually good for the customer and community.
One of these days, all these mall locations around the entire America must return to normal by restoring and repopulate, renewal. Needs instant upgrades. No demolitions necessary, ever.
Wait I have a question Why can't you take things I mean I know it's abandoned and people do still come check on it but if they demoing it doesn't it mean everything is kinda free lol 😅idk if I'm making scenes or not 😂😂😂
When south county mall remodeled that became the mall. When west county mall remodeled, that became the mall. The Galleria has survived despite the crime.
14:41 I hate that because when I was younger (including myself a few times) there were kids I raced with that wore regular boots or even shoes sometimes, these boots are are tall and have multiple latches on them to keep the ankle/foot from rolling against the knee etc, I guarantee you that there is a kid or teen out there that would love to have these

The game you called ping pong is actually called pin ball. It was invented in the late 1800s. As a gambling device.
If i was there i wouldve stolen that pinball machine!!! 😊
Somebody had to have left a scissor lift at some point for those guys to graffiti that ceiling
This machine at 43:53 seems to be some kind of vaccuum sealing machine ...
This chease cake bistro´s architecture at 36:36 reminds me at Ancient Egypt
This was my childhood. 😢
Welcome back 😊
Sad, kind of depressing. However, they were kind of an aloof bunch.
That bombay chest was when furniture was not junk garbage and those nic nacs would get some money on ebay
One of these days, all these mall locations around the entire America must return to normal by restoring and repopulate, renewal. Needs instant upgrades. No demolitions necessary, ever.
Check out of mall of Memphis in Memphis Tennessee. Pecanland mall in monroe louisiana is going down too
2:17 We are with you.
Thought Dillards was supposed to be reopened and part of the downtown chesterfield project
Wait I have a question
Why can't you take things
I mean I know it's abandoned and people do still come check on it but if they demoing it doesn't it mean everything is kinda free lol 😅idk if I'm making scenes or not 😂😂😂
When south county mall remodeled that became the mall. When west county mall remodeled, that became the mall. The Galleria has survived despite the crime.
It'll keep surviving as long as the metrolink stays up, but that's how most of the trouble comes in.
If turn on the power you go will go from trespass to theft.
Those look like pickleball courts
Those boots around 11:57 are motocross racing boots
It’s sad because they are almost always $100+
14:41 I hate that because when I was younger (including myself a few times) there were kids I raced with that wore regular boots or even shoes sometimes, these boots are are tall and have multiple latches on them to keep the ankle/foot from rolling against the knee etc, I guarantee you that there is a kid or teen out there that would love to have these
Dealer probably pays rent to store cars there
Roller skaters heaven😅 maybe the dirt bikers had the same idea
no offense, the silver chrome telsa cyber trucks aren't a slick looking as the black ones. which i have only seen a few of
