I used to do yardwork for people in 80 - 81, for $20 a day, and go buy 1 or 2 of these boxes at Costco for $15 a pop... I must have opened about 6 or 8 that summer! I had 3 rickey's but of course, rubber band team sets left in a shoebox did wonders for the corners of these cards ( crying lol lol )
That Jackson Merrill story is B.S.! He was in Cedar Rapids a couple years ago and was super polite and would give multiple signatures per person after every game before boarding the team bus
10:13 I will be honest...if I had this in the budget I would have bought a couple of packs. Despite the odds...I liked the risk and reward here. Quality of the cards was great.
Im sure somewhere along the line im sure the box was xrayed or ct scanned and resealed, i mean that bbce cello means nothing ever since dude authenticated a series 1 pokemon tcg box full of GI Joe cards , so until you actually open packs you dont know
not to be a grind, and this really isn't any of my business, but I wouldn't be putting the backside of stained cards (wax/gum) next to other cards. keep that side at the bottom of a stack - honestly, I throw those cards out cause I don't want them in contact with any of the other cards
Below is a list of pack hits by order of appearance. (and their value if they graded at a PSA 10) Hit 1 Ozzie Smith PSA 10: $1,399.99 Hit 2 Pete Rose PSA 10: $1,537.50 Hit 3 Paul Molitor PSA 10: $313.53 JR Richard / Ryan PSA 10: $335.00 Rose Highlight PSA 10: $381.00 Hit 4 Robin Yount PSA 10: $868.53 Hit 5 Nolan Ryan PSA 10: $13,319.70 Hit 6 George Brett PSA 10: $3,263.27 Hit 7 Paul Molitor PSA 10: $313.53 Hit 8 Rose Highlight PSA 10: $381.00 Hit 9 George Brett PSA 10: $3,263.27 Hit 10 Pete Rose PSA 10: $1,537.50 Total potential box value: $26,913.82 and if only 40% of that grades out at a 10, it's still around $10,765.53. Not bad.
If a Ricky is not pulled. It’s sus and reading a few comments before I finish watching video. Seems Ricky doesn’t show up. That’s some BS unbelievable. Unbelievable. Man you probably could put together a whole series, Minus just Henderson. Crazy. Just crazy. I feel upset. lol😂
There are 36 packs, 15 cards per pack. That's a total of 540 cards in a box. Since there are over 700 cards in the series, even with no duplicates it's literally not possible to come close to a complete set. And quite possible to not pull the single individual card he's looking for.
@@garylee3893- sorry if I came off as being snarky. I wasn't trying to be. I know Jabs has a broad spectrum of followers & some may not realize how many cards were in a set back then. I do because I'm old. Lol
@ thx. No worries. I get caught up in rips always rooting for big hits ( not big fan of panini lol) if you’re a fan of cards. And I’m a fan No doubt we’d be friends. And yes what ya stated is very true. Quick story. I do collect as well as sell. I let a 7 of 10 red bordered 2023 Jeter card go in a bundle for 20 bucks. Ouch. I got careless. Dude I sold to offered to give it back (maybe just a 100 dollar card) I appreciated but my bad my loss. Keep ripping but be updated on flipping 👍👍😊❤️
@@garylee3893- I was a huge collector as a kid. A buddy & I had a "shop" in the basement of his grandparents gift store. When I graduated college I sold off my collection to buy a car. I've just gotten back into collecting the last year or two. I'm mostly just building my PC but I love the adrenaline of ripping. Ha!
Every time i see something about Ricky Henderson, I get sick. I had one when i was a kid. It was PRESTINE ! Then one day my dad took it from me and gave it to my cousin as a Christmas gift when i was 15. I'll never forget the day that happened. I havent spoken to my cousin since and I dont know what happened to that card.
just because somebody shelled out 180k for a PSA 10 doesn't make this card worth 180k. others have sold since then for tens of thousands of dollars less, and some considerably less than that. it's only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it, and just because it sold for a price at a time in the past doesn't make it worth that now. people need to remember that when watching these breaks.
@@JabsFamily - i understand that, but just because it sold once for 180k doesn't necessarily mean every psa 10 is a 180k card. that one in particular that sold for that much is, and in theory is still only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. not trying to throw shade. =)
Love watching these old box rips reminds me of being a kid. Before my time born in 1981 always wanted that Ricky card

36 quarters is $9 bro.....Costco ripped you off!!!
There was some great cards in incredible condition. Definitely grade worthy. Especially the base Rose. So much fun watching.
Bummer, but man I love these vintage box breaks. Thanks Erik!
These are the types of videos that got me to follow you and got me back into the hobby in general!
That Jackson Merrill story is B.S.! He was in Cedar Rapids a couple years ago and was super polite and would give multiple signatures per person after every game before boarding the team bus
I remember Mickey Klutts from the Rookie Shorstops card that also has Alan Trammell and Paul Molitor from 2 years prior.
Dang it. I’m on edge. 12 packs left!! Come on Ricky

When are you planning to ship these cards? Maybe I'll get a response here.
Thank you!
That Pete Rose definitely a 9 possibly a 10

Love that Ozzie smith second year card
I've got my psa submission form filled out and the corresponding cards ready to submit to psa.... wish me luck
WOW! I'd be so pissed at this box!!! SMH
Fun Fact 1980 topps cards were sold in convenient stores just about everywhere they were 25 cents each a box cost 9 bucks
Fun Fact. $9.00 was a quarter of a car payment in 1980. Hello Maverick.
I remember when 80 topps boxes from bbce were $300. 15 years or so ago.
You've inspired me to open one of my 1988 tops packs. Pulled a very nice Nolan Ryan. PSA 10 sold for $300 in May
If you are looking for a good rip look for 88 leaf not donruss. Boxes go for about 50 bucks and Psa 10 Nolan goes for about 800 bucks.
Jim Barr probably saw Morgana the kissing bandit running at him.🎉

Back in 1990, I bought some packs of 81 Donruss and decided to try the gum. It tasted like actual vomit.
Awful box. Sorry for anyone who bought in.
Thanks for ruining it for me
It’s 44 years old, what exactly were you expecting?

21:07 oh you mean a e-bay error card. Smh.
Jim Barr never made the big bucks. He knew it when that card photo was taken.
Trump has the most beautiful henderson rookie. It's immaculate
I havent seen it but I’ve seen some of the other ones. Those are a cool product.
Too bad it's trump
How neat….
You are awesome! I've been following you for about 2 years now,
Why dont you seperate the gum card instead of throwing with the rest. You are risking wrecking other cards

Cards of my childhood and early teens. Always never worth those insane prices
I have a calib Killian autograph and a michael Carlson autograph. The ladder is the better, but they are both lazy inscriptions

you cant pay 100 dollars a pack with the gum in play

The gum looks absolutely disgusting 😮
Maybe next time. The suspense was killing me.
