    You can’t go wrong with either saw. I love my 462

    I just bought a 462C last fall. and it's my go to saw. I have a Echo 620P with a 24" bar and while it cuts good, there's a lot more power with the Sthil and more comfortable to run. I don't mind Echo's at all, in fact I used the cs 303T and the cs 355T when I used to climb trees and both rip and now they're great for limbing and cutting up smaller limbs. My Sthil dealer said they've had issues with a few 500i's they've sold, like carb problems and spark plug issues and not a whole lot of difference between the 500i and 462. These 500i's now in my area are pushing 1700 bucks! and I paid around 1500 for my 462 last fall but also got a case and 2 extra chains with that 1500 bill.

    Both good saws. Def some improvments over later models. Ms400 for me next same wieght as 362 15% more grunt. Cheers

    261 and 362 are excellent saws if needing a bigger saw but not logging. If you are logging then a 362 is a good secondary saw. So what are people using the saw for? If just personal use and not for work/career the 362 is excellent for power to money ratio.

    Nice work. Now that we are 8 months out, lets see an update! I'm trying to decide between the 462 and the 362 for cutting firewood.

      Just ordered a west coast kit for my 362. I got to run a 462 for a couple cuts that was not broke in and I must say what a torque monster . however the 362 is a hair lighter and runs through hardwoods very well. Both saws are fantastic in my eyes . supporting a 20" bar and standard carb . no M-tronic ...362 woke up big time after my 10th tank of gas. Keep her sharp and mill that gullet and anything you go with will be worth your while.

      Just for firewood, I'd say a 362.

    I just payed $960 for 362 non C-M /20"bar+chain an 6pk oil an gallon jug bar oil. Thought i was getting the Mtronic version but dealer pulled the switcheroo didnt notice till few days later, called Stihl directly they told me some bullcrap about a wire harness used on Mtronic is from Russia an thats why dealer didnt have the Mtronic. Kinda put bad taste in my mouth with stihl as this was my very first purchase from them an dealer.

  • @eclark53520

    Considering the power to weight ratio, the 362 isn't even really a contender IMO. 462 is barely heavier and significantly more powerful. Unless you absolutely can't swing the extra cash, but in that case I would probably suggest an Echo CS-590 or 620 which is going to be pretty solid contender against he 362 for a lot less money if one is strapped for cash.

    • @brandonparshall3993
      @brandonparshall3993 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree I bought a cs-590 echo and have had great luck with it but I have noticed that a ms462 will be the best next best step due to p/w ratios

      @@tooltimewithtierney3690 what are your thoughts? I have 362c that I’ve got a lot of run time on and I love it for firewood, however I am getting in to some bigger oaks and I’ve had my eye on the 462c... even thought about going 661c just for the hell of it

    • @tooltimewithtierney3690
      @tooltimewithtierney3690  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikeb4270 I think you would be happy with the 462 coupled with a 20” or 25” bar, it comfortably runs a my 25” bar and also works decently with the 32” lightweight. That said, having that extra power makes things go faster, and for that I enjoy the 462 when bucking large logs or felling. I keep a 20” bar on my 362 and a 25” bar on the 462 for regular use. Good luck!
      The 661c seems impressive and I’d like to add it to my arsenal at some point.

      @@TheWoodsmanMilling the 362 is a 59cc saw and the 462 is a 72.2cc saw. I have the 462 and was gonna go with the 362 for a smaller running around saw and I ended up with a shindaiwa 600sx its 59.8 and professional saw and has a 5 year warranty also its built in Japan but! My 462 rcm is perfect just as a stock saw I haven't had it very long but I've fell close to 200 trees with it and I can tell it gets increasingly better every 40 or so.
