companies debut minors because they want to be able to use them longer, so they start earlier, not because some ppl disagree or are hating on older groups not disbanding lol.
in this video op mentions (both young and old groups) and why he is surprised they didnt disband because of:
      1. mismanagement
      2. lack of popularity and therefore money loss
      3. surprised at suju's 17 year career despite how competitive this industry is.
at the end of the day it comes down to money- if the group makes money the company has a reason to keep them, thats why op is surprised that the groups (mentioned) are not disbanded- they dont bring in a lot of money, if any at all.

Day6 was so horribly mismanaged... I miss my boys so much; they're getting surprisingly a lot of projects whilst all of the remaining members are in the military though. I've always believed that their music spoke for itself and that their talent will make them rise naturally; but the lack of support and promotions really killed any momentum they had from You Were Beautiful and Zombie.

they seriously have the most interesting music in jyp with so much variety, but the situation now is like a trainwreck ending to their career. Mistreating one of the members and then punishing him for speaking out about it is insane. What keeps Mamamoo together is their love for making music together and the fans. the fanbase may not be as big in numbers but we are one of the most loyal ones. And the reason for staying is, even if they are badly promoted, they make good music, and did not stop every year for the last 8 years. I personally just pull out a mamamoo playlist depending on my mood and they have songs that cater to that. Stanning mamamoo is stanning artists more than idols, so music show wins are not as important to me than seeing them grow in their musicality. And this upcoming comeback is just another season, another genre, another ground to cover. So I'm sorry to disappoint you, regardless of the agency, Mamamoo is not going anywhere anytime soon, their next chapter is just getting started.

Longevity isn’t about being 1# on the charts Always. It’s about having a solid and consistent fanbase that always comes out for you.

      @lia_anh ปีที่แล้ว +60

Right? The reasoning in this video was a bit weird. Truthfully, even if these groups are starting to become ‘old’ and don’t garner nearly as much attention in the international sphere and kpop community, they are still, imo, the few rare groups that I actually see continue being in the industry for a long long time. Both groups are extremely respected in Korea, has a solid existing fanbase, seem to get along well, and very successful solo carriers. Suju (and Mamamoo is starting to do that) have gotten away from the typical idol image, and appear on reality shows regularly as celebrities. It is in their interest to keep the group alive on the side cause it will make the fan happy (also they might just be attached to the group). Having solo activities on the side and maybe one group comeback per year is striking a good balance I feel like.

The longevity of Super Junior is not "somewhat" impressive. As you mentioned, it's unusual for a K-pop group to last more than seven years, let alone 17 years. They started when K-pop was still considered a niche and social media was not as prevalent as it is today. There's a reason they've lasted this long and continue to thrive. They have the talent and the charisma, in addition to a large and devoted fan base. They were very hands-on in their craft too. Regardless of their individual gigs, the members would always introduce themselves as Suju members and would tell everyone that they were carrying their group's name with them in everything they did. (like acting, variety, directing, etc.) Leeteuk went out of his way to help the group succeed even more by proposing the launch of their very own label. Super Junior, TVXQ, Shinee, and Girls Generation's hard work gave birth to the big 3 privilege.

Like you said, there was no excuse for Hwasa’s I’m a B to fail-it was a great track and very much in keeping with the kind of music she puts out. Only problem was no one outside the fandom heard about it.
Also, can we talk about Moonbyul’s solo tracks? Why do they keep giving her juvenile cute concepts? Byul is nearly 30, and it’s obvious she prefers darker, more boy group-esque concepts, as in her Dark Side of the Moon mini album. It makes zero sense to try to brand her as a cutesy, hyper-feminine artist.

I’m sorry, but the members are very hands on when it comes to their concepts and solos. It is true that Moonbyul has a tomboyish image and brand, but she has expressed multiple times that she wants to be versatile and do whatever she wants. It is not obvious, like you stated, that she prefers dark and boy group concepts. She looked happy promoting Lunatic and CITT, and I don’t see the problem with her having a youthful and bright concepts at the age of thirty, which is still very young. I doubt she was forced to do anything she didn’t want to do. She also did look very happy performing them so I’m not sure why people like you claim she didn’t enjoy it? Maybe you didn’t like the song and thought it didn’t suit her, but clearly she’s having fun and chose it for herself for a reason. Personally I think she’s very versatile

@@candyhyojung1860 Personnally, I believe that if Mamamoo wanted to switch companies, they could. But who knows.
And while it’s true that the company is really fumbling some stuff concerning Mamamoo, I believe the situation is way more complicated. We’re living hell as international fans due to the company’s bad promotions, or simply as fans cause it’s irritating knowing they, in fact, could be more popular, but tbh they are thriving, appearing a multiple variety shows throughout the year, having a lot of freedoms and creative liberties, and still having a solid fanbase. Saying that rbw did nothing for them is false (though I hate that company a lot too), so we’ll have to see if they decide to renew in the future. For me, the fact that they didn’t sign contracts with the same lengths shows that they are still uncertain themselves…

Mamamoo have been my ults pretty much since I first got into loop and I couldn't agree more. What's sad is that I strongly believe they are some of the most talented, interesting, funny, and inspiring idols with a GOLDEN discography. Everybody knows mamamoo and yet they're nowhere near as successful as they could be. Moomoos often compare them with blackpink (which blinks obviously hate) but I get where the fandom is coming from. Both have this bad bitch girl boss persona, they're a quartet, a powerhouse on stage and very talented. Mmm should be more internationally successful but RBW let's them down (also bp has three English speakers which is a huge advantage). I think a lot of Moomoos has just accepted this by now and have learnt to just enjoy mamamoo. I actually like it like that because the fandom is less competitive and than others. A lot of people say stanning mmm is like stanning artist's not idols and I agree. I don't need them to take first place on every music show, I just want them to be happy and spread their music and influence to as many people as possible because its so so good and so slept on. Check out their albums, you won't regret it. All that being saaid, please support their comeback next week hahaha. Moomoos want to show RBW and the girls how much we've missed and value them.
Edit: for the moomoo vs blink thing I didn't mean this in a competitive way, more just weighing up the two and thinking about where mamamoo might be if they were in big 3. I'm also a mooblink so I don't mean to start a fight or anything! Just pointing it out.

I have similar feelings. I want the four members to be happy. I want them to be successful enough so that they stay together happily and also have thriving solo careers. I want them to keep making good music, and to enjoy doing so. I want them to be well enough known so that everyone who would love their music will have a chance to hear their songs and decide whether to explore their full discography.
I don’t need them to fill stadiums with huge ticket prices on the primary market and colossal ticket prices on the secondary market. (I feel that they rarely seem that happy on the large festival stages, compared to their obvious joy at performing in medium-sized venues in front of Moomoos.) I would love for them to have an international tour, as long as it is a happy experience for them.
My belief about Mamamoo is that they are not a fad or a passing phase. They have an exceptional discography. To start with, every song is well composed and well written and well produced. Those vocals, though… Even their crack songs have moments where the vocals take my breath away. Just listen to Taller Than You or AZE GAG. Those songs have plenty to sustain them just from their energy and attitude and crackness and beagleness. They don’t need sick vocals on top of all that. But it’s Mamamoo, so they do it anyway. Even for a crack song. When they turn it all on for the ballads, how do we even survive?
The other thing that is not a fad or a passing phase is their message of self-acceptance. They are not superheroes or fantasy figures with magic powers. Their message is that they are regular human beings, like all of us, worthy of love and self-acceptance. It’s a lasting message.

Not groups I am surprised haven't disbanded YET, but certainly groups I am very worried about for the future:
    1. BVNDIT - love them to no end, but aside from the one golden year from "Hocus Pocus" to "Jungle" they have been inactive four out of the five years since they were ready to debut (and had to wait two years while Chung Ha was pulled out of the group and debuted as a soloist). "Venom" was a surprise and a very pleasant one and I HOPE MNH is preparing for another comeback to follow up, but with Chung Ha saying on stage she hates her company and wants to leave and BVNDIT not a big seller, I don't have a lot of confidence that the company (or BVNDIT) are going to survive.
    2. Rocket Punch - they have everything they need to be successful: talented members, insane visuals, and some great title tracks and b-sides. They are a perfectly fine, mid-tier girl group - in a world dominated by massive promotional budgets and interesting lore, where just being a "perfectly fine" girl group isn't good enough. Aside from their Japanese activities, Woollim has not promoted Rocket Punch well at all. "Ring Ring" got good traction and set Rocket Punch up for greater success, but the company waited nine months for a comeback, which didn't do anything to grow the fan base. The group has no "identity" that makes them memorable or stands out like AESPA's virtual world or Purple Kiss' nerdy witches. They're "just another girl group", and halfway through their contracts without a first win or without breaking out of nugu status, I am very concerned that Woollim is close to writing them off.
    3. PIXY - they had a dream of a first year, but two members leaving the group is never good. I hope that a new member joining and some time touring will allow the group to recover and be "Reborn", but I'm not confident.
    4. LOONA - maybe counterintuitive, but this year should have been big LOONA's breakthrough year, with growing sales, Queendom 2 appearance, and a world tour. But the chaos related to the tour and uncertainty about Chuu's status with Blockberry Creative has left Loona Island in disarray. They need another successful comeback ASAP to smooth the waters, but they also need a long rest after this insanely-overscheduled year...

@@bvnditbul7039 After two years of hiatus, I thought BVNDIT were a dead group. I was proven wrong by "Venom", so I hope my concerns about all of these groups end up being baseless. Ella leaving PIXY was no surprise after she left Cherry Bullet - she'll never get another chance as an idol after bailing out of TWO groups. But Satbyeol leaving did surprise me and left me far more concerned, since we really don't know the circumstances (her health doesn't seem bad considering how active she is on Instagram post-departure). LOONA is a really weird case - if their contracts were set from the release of "Hi High" then they have three more years, but since all the members actually debuted earlier, Heejin's contract might date from the release of "ViViD" in 2016, leaving maybe just one more year on her contract (and Hyunjin, Haseul and Yeojin soon thereafter). If I were one of the members I would not have a lot of confidence or desire to renew my contract with Blockberry Creative these days…but i know the girls love being together, so…

The new groups that debut now are gaining popularity at an almost unbelievable speed, leaving all smaller, mid tier, let alone nugus in the dust more than ever. It's very sad, but also somewhat fun for a multistan.

    • @Vektorix28205
      @Vektorix28205 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@iamdz4304 Yeah, the last couple of years have seen the big companies REALLY assert their marketing-driven dominance over the industry, particularly when it comes to girl groups. AESPA, IVE, Kep1er, Le Sserafim, Newjeans, NMIXX - all have debuted with sales over 250K - a level that in the past only experienced powerhouses like Blackpink or TWICE would achieve. Now there are so many of these mega-groups that they dominate promotions almost every week, making it much more difficult for smaller groups to get a music show win or even to grow sales. There's only so many fans and so many dollars (or Won) available, so when the big groups are sucking up all the attention, the small companies are just steamrolled. Hence the new groups from small companies that are succeeding are the ones that stand out, like Billlie. Rocket Punch has had two opportunities to embrace a sound that they could make their own - "Bouncy" had a brattiness that suited them very well, while "Ring Ring" - for a moment - made Rocket Punch the queens of retro Kpop. "Flash" is a good song, but a forgettable one, and Rocket Punch can not afford to be forgettable...

    • @iamdz4304
      @iamdz4304 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Vektorix28205 Another thing i've noticed is that eventhough these big groups are let's say taking most of the attention, overall the sales even for small groups have increased across the board, so do we take this as a positive or negative for smaller groups/agencies? I feel like this insane surge in popularity to the kpop genre in general attracts a lot more people to smaller groups who would have sold even under 1k albums in the past, sure, they won't get a music show win with 10k sales or anything, but small agencies might view it as worthwhile debuting mediocre groups with little to no budget behind them.

Exactly, album sales aren't true numbers (fans and staff buying albums by the case is nothing new in kpop) and YT viewed are also very much skewed by bots and people leaving the videos running 24/7. What international fans consider famous vs what is famous in SK is also very different (as the Melon chart showed, pretty sure more recent international fans didn't expect BigBang to be no1 / were like "Highlight? Never heard of them. Wtf are those unknown guys?").
Also some groups most likely DON'T want to be hyper famous with tens of millions of fans and just want to enjoy a smaller fanbase, chances to branch out in the entertainment industry and enough income to continue doing music.

Also I saw a comment that said something about Moonbyuls type of music. She chooses those type of songs she herself has said that she wants to try different types of genres and not stick with one. 1.Day6 should have just left the company. I mean Jae pretty much gave a clear Idea as to why. I mean it's clear as Sky right now that JYP is least bothered about Day6. they didn't promote their last 2 comebacks properly.
    2. Momoland should have been under a different Management, but with the same people who made their sound. The management was just exploiting the members. Daisy and Yeonwoo were clear evidence of the company's mismanagement,
    3. I wish B. I didn't have to receive so much hate. I mean the reaction from the public was so bad that they acted as if he killed someone. I mean I wish they calmed their ass down and think things from the group's perspective. I mean losing any member is a bad thing , but B.I here is the one who produced Ikon's entire discography until I DIVE. And him being the leader losing him would take even a more bad hit than what he did. I mean even after this whole fiasco B.I is the one doing well off now than Ikon. I mean They could have promoted them properly after kingdom , but they had to mess up even that.
    4. I'm not that surprised that Mamamoo hasn't disbanded considering how successful they are and how much huge of a fanbase they have. even if they sign with different companies later i don't think they will disband.

I was so surprised when I saw Suju here, like nowadays ktubers channels rarely or never mention them but yeah even as an ELF myself and Suju was the group that got me into kpop it's so impressive the popularity they still have after 17 years of career, true is they might not get the number views, music show awards, etc but all the members are active in the entertainment industry, their latests comebacks and album sales are the best ones they have ever had and Suju even though all the hate they get nowadays (which is ridiculous is the most majority) , they are only 3 years appart to reach the 20 years mark in the industry and said by the members they will keep releasing music for 20 years more so yeah, they are on their way to be the most active kpop group ever only behind Shinhwa and TVXQ, we haven't got a TVXQ comeback since like 2019 and idk about Shinhwa but yeah, Suju still release music every single year and still have a huge international fanbase

RBW became worse with their promotions after the contract renewal and going public tbh. Before that it was bad, but not as bad as it is now. Moreover right now the major labels are pushing their newer groups like anything so RBW needed to step up their game to keep mamamoo relevant but they didn't do that.
I think most of the members renewed because they did not expect the company to sabotage them like it's being done now. You could see Moonbyul and Hwasa were clearly unhappy with how their solos were handled.
As to why RBW renewed them? It's simple. RBW needs mamamoo. They are still known as "Mamamoo's agency". As much as the company would love to deny, mmm is what's making them relevant. The moment the group disbands it'll be tough for RBW unless they are somehow able to push PK higher within next year

i was an ikonic from 2017-2020. they were one of my ult groups alongside blackpink. i no longer stan them but i keep up with them here and there. i just wanted to say that while B.I was absolutely the brain behind 90% of their music, he wasn't the only producer/songwriter in the group. bobby is no slouch when it comes to producing, and has been credited as lyricist and composer on pretty much every track ikon have put out since 2020. they're also working with producers they've always worked with, such as choice37, millennium, and future bounce who are in-house YG producers. in general i think their music is just as good as it once was, but with the long hiatuses and zero public presence, they're just not doing as well. their management is letting them down big time. ikon will hopefully NOT renew with YG because i don't think YG is doing them any favours.

omg i agree but i feel like they’re renewing because (im an ikonic too) and i’ve been keeping up with their schedules and they have group activities planned out till december 2022 so far and this is their 7th year as a group (and apparently when their contract with yge will end) and the members have said they want to stay with each other for a long time. So there is a possibility that they renewed which i really wished they would leave yge while staying together as a group but there is no confirmation yet but its very likely that they renewed

Super Junior still being there is impressive.
They were supposed to be a rotational group and were modeled after both Morning Musume ( rotation ) and SMAP ( individually active in other roles besides singers ). They were known as Super Junior 05 because that was supposed to be the 2005 line-up only. Of course, they got popular and SM just made them a permanent group ( while also adding some members here and there ). After that, they were just known as Super Junior.
Them doing what they want to do while still wanting to have group comebacks every now and then IS impressive.
Personally, I am not surprised they are still active as a group.

Please, Blackswan's story is so messy 😫 The fact that their debut album was titled "Goodbye Rania" and featured, FOR SOME REASON, a good bunch of Rania songs is so random and confusing? Their company literally promoted them as a rebranded Rania 😐And I don't understand why they thought that was a good idea? Giving Rania's history 😐
Also debuting them with a member whose contract was about to end like a few weeks after the debut 🧐 Then coming up with the great idea to add new members out of nowhere and realeasing two who were loved by the public?

It's nice to see older idols still be that active in the industry. It gives me hope that other groups will eventually do the same, especially now that we're seeing so many 2nd and early 3rd gen groups reunite and release music this year. Kpop is into its third decade at this point, so having active older idols helps put into perspective on how far back kpop's influence goes and the evolution of how we got here. Plus it helps normalize having actual adults in kpop and not minors.
As for SJ specifically, I don't like them as people per se, but I think folks kind of forget their legacy in kpop - they were one of the groups that helped revive the popularity of boy groups in the mid-2000s and were one of the first groups to go viral on TH-cam. They were also one of the first to develop a huge following in Latin America, where kpop first started expanding outside of Asia. I know people make a lot of jokes about them disbanding, but it looks like they're not going anywhere. Their music is good and it's nice to have more "legacy" idol groups in the industry.

Look at Paul McCartney he's been doing music since the Beatles and still going and making hit records that's why he's a multi-billionaire. Super junior is still going because they're fan base is too big to let them go and it's true SM Entertainment don't disband groups they make too much money off them

    1. I love day6 but they need more comebacks. Jyp, more day6.
    2. Haven't heard much about this group in a while. They keep losing members. My personal opinion is to disband or do what dreamcatcher did. More likely disband.
    3. Ikon...yeah. Yg has Treasure now which seems to be the similar in a way. I have a strong feeling yg keeps ikon around because maybe BI still writes for yg behind the scenes?? But also, YG is KNOWN for 1 comeback in like 2 years. Except for blackpink, the dungeon situation still seems to be in effect for everyone else.
    4. Black swan. I don't really listen to them much. If they are successful, great. But I haven't heard much recently. Kind of just a "there" group.
    (Simon cowell voice) Disband!
    5. Who? I'm sorry I haven't heard of them much. I'm sure they are great though...New music? :)
    6. They need new music. Right now they have been doing a lot of solo stuff. I've seen them on guest shows or people doing covers of their songs. I can see them having more success.
    7. Super junior. The Arashi of Korea. Those men age like fine wine. (Chef's kiss)
