hi everyone! thank you so much for the overwhelming love this video has received! i'm really so grateful to you all for your nice comments 🤍
just a few precisions: "underrated" was used on purpose as it has more impact (this is a youtube title video) even if "underappreciated" would be more accurate. I see a few people correcting that the girls are, in fact, very successful in SK and globally which I didn't intend to (and don't think I did?) diminish, even without lisiting all the records they've broken or awards they've won. please understand that it wasn't possible for me to fit Everything and that the purpose of the video was to evoke a general idea of how they stand out as a group and what makes them special to me, and moos, rather than what keeps them successful in their home country.
thank you again for the love! i will be back soon with more content 🥰

Great explanation. I do agree Mamamoo isn't as appreciated internationally as they should be. However, I would say that KARD is even more underappreciated as they got almost NO love in Korea. LOONA is another group that is way too talented for the limited success they have (I still don't understand that at all).

okay, as a pretty deep fan of mamamoo, i really need fellow moomoos to retire this sentiment/copypasta. One, because literally every kpop stan says this about any group. Just look at the youtube comments of a random music video. Two, not every member is an ace at absolutely everything, AND THAT IS OKAY. They have their own individual strengths and unique traits that come together into a cohesive form. They have 1.5 rappers, and afaik no member has ever produced a song.
I get that it's just for laughs, but it's really unhelpful to newer/potential fans when you're overexaagerating or straight up telling falsehoods.

    • @SapiaNt0mata
      @SapiaNt0mata ปีที่แล้ว

appreciation is earned and not given. do they make the songs, music, have choreography that the masses want? no. that's why they won't get more appreciation, recognition, etc. Kpop is so big now with so many groups that have international popularity and if you want to be one of them you have to give to the masses what they want otherwise they will find someone else that does. there are several alternatives. right now in Kpop you can't do your own thing and hope to get big. it's not gonna happen. and Mamamoo do their own thing and don't want to do what the masses want.

@@SapiaNt0mata This is a pretty nihilistic look at things but it's the sad truth
When you make songs that are not sticking to a certain formula, you don't gain a lot of popularity. Instead you get a small but extremely loyal fanbase, which makes these kinds of situations a lot less frustrating. The best thing a fan can do is to accept that they aren't gonna be extremely popular, but you know their music is amazing and you enjoy it
Just a side note, it's kind of the same thing that happened to gidle. After the controversy, soyeon decided to shift gears and created her own formula which pretty much every song since tomboy has followed. they all have a similar sound and no bridge ( it's not really a bad thing, just that their old music kinda fit their entire concept of having a really fluid concept) . It shows the change in the type of music fans eat up ( esp after covid)

what i love most about manamoo is how they showcase and embrace all forms of femininity and gender presentation. on one end of the spectrum, you have moonbyul who largely prefers a masculine wardrobe and chooses not to show skin; on the other end, you have hwasa with her fierce and unabashed feminine style, choosing to wear revealing clothes and show off her curves.
mamamoo shows us that both these forms of presentation are valid, and both women are equally powerful. in a world where women are constantly pitted against each other, shamed for being “too revealing” or “too prudish”, mamamoo shows us that four women with largely different styles can coexist and support each other.

Mamamoo honestly deserve so much more recognition that they get. I genuinely think if their company had just been a little smarter, marketed them a better, let them expand into the international market early on, have them more wider reaching tours from the beginning- they would be standing at the top of the international market with BTS right now even if Korea might not have been as accepting of them.
But hell, if they had even half the marketing budget that Big 3 groups had they would’ve easily become the biggest girl group of their generation.
Overwhelming talent, passion for music, a strong creative vision, being loudly and proudly opinionated, a diverse and varied discography, openly fighting for equality and inclusion- they’re all rare enough traits in the music industry on their own, being all combined into one group like this? Oh! I didn’t know about Mamamoo until I saw this video, and over the past few weeks I’ve been OBSESSING about them! I am new to KPop, only a few years, and it’s mostly been the boy bands I’ve been focused on (Shinee specifically because oh wow I love those boys), and looking for a girl band who could deliver on all the energy and ability of the men because sadly, many of them are too cute and delicate. I want the force that I KNOW women can perform with. Then I saw this video, and watched their MVs, and YES YES YES I FOUND THEM!!!
I’m a full on Moomoo now, thanks to you, and thanks to the Four Queens of KPop. 💚💜❤️💙

Mamamoo has saved me from despair a few years ago, encountering them accidentally. In 2017, I faced the toughest challenges in my life, and the days seemed lifeless. However, after listening to their music, I became interested, observing the ad-libs in various songs, playing on stage. It made me laugh, and all the members are the best, but I would choose Wheein as my favorite puppy. Don't forget that Wheein has just made a comeback with a full album. All of her songs can be compiled into a playlist. Moomoos, I love you, from Moomoo Indonesia.

do they do the music/songs that the masses want? no. that's why they're not more popular. also, their choreography was their weakness for many years and this played big role. in Kpop choreography is very important. Mamamoo - Where Are We Now = not even 15 million views. Mamamoo - Hip = 400 million views. the song with vocal perfection didn't even get 50 million views while the songs with weaker vocals got 400 million. as you can see the vocals are not enough in Kpop. if they did more songs like Hip they would get big. but they don't.

@@SapiaNt0mata More like vocals aren't important at all in kpop today, so many idols are literally tone deaf and can't sing live but are saved by editing and lip syncing. The kpop industry don't deserve them, they are way bigger than what the kpop industry expects out of an idol, they are superior in skill and hard work. They are real artists.

people know who Mamamo is. Mamamoo was even in top 10 Worldwide Fan's Choice of MAMA, Hip went viral worldwide and number 1 on Billboard, etc etc. Billboard even wrote an article about them for Hip #1. the thing is that Mamamoo don't do the music, songs, and choreography that the masses want so they're less popular. if you want more popularity they have to change cause competition has become very fierce. and i highly doubt they'll change now.

in Kpop if you want to attract the masses you have to give them what they want cause if you don't they'll find someone that does.
as they are they will not get BIG no matter what. now that Kpop is so popular internationally you can't do your own thing and expect to get big. it's not gonna happen. in the past that Kpop wasn't big internationally it could have worked like BTS, but now it can't.

The group definitely deserves lots of love and not the unnecessary for not following the standards what an idol should look like.

1st, exceptional video. You did them a great justice and hope this will help bring them more respect as they deserve.
There's no one else like them. As such, we need to appreciate them while they're together because you know there most likely won't ever be again given the industry.
Their Killing Voice is the best one of all IMO. It shows the range of their well-rounded, next level, and stable vocals--individually and as a group which is proven so seemingly effortless & natural. Even their introduction is a harmony. I find myself binging on it for hours every so often.
Their sound is global, discog is solid, and one of the easiest to listen to.
I love how they push the envelope, break the norms, and give 0 fscks making them the most realest group in their industry which is attest to when Hwa Sa, my bias, said, "I'll become a new, different standard.".
Let's hope they're around for many more years or even decades because I can't imagine a world w/o them.

MAMAMOO has been different since they started and they'll always be. I always have a strong belief that they will go really far and strive really long in the industry. Like I never worried about them not releasing new music as a group or solo cuz they're MAMAMOO, they love music and they'll do whatever they can to just sing, just like how they've been. They're the unique ones in kpop. In fact, I feel like they don't fit in the kpop frame from the start, they're a parallel shooting star going side by side the whole kpop industry. They're not kpop idols but singers, artists that represent Korea. All they did is art and they only do art. Like just look at their music, how they present their work in forms of videos and even album artwork, they heavily participate in their work since the beginning. Their stage performances are always top tier and unmatchable. Their stage presence, the way they communicate with the audience, their vocal and dance skills, is just so great and natural like the stage is their playground and they're really born to be MAMAMOO. They broke so much barriers and had been the first to do something that lead them to be criticised by the time, but now normalised in the kpop industry. MAMAMOO is just so underappreciated in fact they're so respected in the industry. I love my queens ❤
