As you are asking for opinions and suggestion, here are mine -- with due respect of someone who admires your work and dedication. First, the opinion. Frankly, I find it hard to see the point. Sounds a bit like puzzling about how to goldplate a coke can 😉. Is a Zorki-4 really worth the trouble? That said, I must admit that I once bought a black-painted Kiev (turned into a fake Contax) from Ukraine, which I still find gorgeous. The painting was well done and has lasted without problem until now. Which brings me to the suggestion: The Ukrainian "painter" had spared all minor elements: winding and rewind knobs, accessory shoe, self timer etc. I think that was a wise and aesthetically pleasing decision. Think of the early black Leicas with their nickle elements! I'd suggest that you go that way. If you don't like it, you can always complete the job later. But beware that the paint on these minor pieces takes the most wear & is not likely to withstand it!
@@atf2940 there's no real point indeed. I know it's a very controversial topic. I suppose I've seen some very nice looking custom painted cameras and I wanted to try it out. The other reason is the fact that I already have a big stockpile of Z1, Z4, FED 3 & 5 and I figured a custom painted, serviced FED5 has better chances to be sold than a plain one that everybody seems to avoid. As for the bits and pieces that I've also painted, I guess I like the black cameras of the time (like my beaten Pentax S1a) that are all black. But it might be just a moment's thing. That's why I didn't want to invest a lot of money in Cerakote.
