How to get your Texas License to Carry (LTC/CHL)?

- There are many misconceptions when getting your Texas License to Carry but Stephen, one of our LTC Instructors and Kirk, cover some of the basic questions. The License to Carry course is not a learn to shoot class, therefore you must be familiar and proficient with a firearm. A LTC allows you to carry your firearm on your person open or concealed. You do not need a LTC to purchase or own a gun.

This process went so smooth for me. Took roughly two days for everything. I did the online course. Total cost for me was $170. That's everything.
Instructor even let me use his 22lr glock and provided the ammo at $5. (That's included in the $170).

Receiving your License to Carry is a separate certification than being a Level III Security Guard.
Whole different class. Worse part have to redo fingerprints
I recently moved to Texas but I’m still technically a Illinois resident. Could I still receive a Texas LTC?
You need 6 months of Texas residency to get a resident license or you can get a non-resident license.
Thanks for the video. How accurate do you have to be in the actual shooting portion of the LTC class in regards to "passing or failing"?

It’s easy. All that is required is proficiency. September 1 2021 Texas will be a Constitutional carry state and no license is required. The Constitution gave ALL Americans the right to carry long ago. The tyrannical government took this right along with many, many others! Save your $$ and wait for 9/1 if you can.

With the new law passed in Texas, I know we are able to own a handgun without a license. But for safety, I want to be able to have one just in case. Do y’all know any locations in Houston where I could get my LTC?

You could always own a handgun without a license only now you don’t need a license to CARRY a handgun, but there’s some exceptions, schools, bars etc.
, I have a question, I have a misdemeanor in California like 4 years ago for possession of metal knuckles yeah I know crazy for that charge to even happen , I got no jail time just a probation not to carry any weapons for 3 years I passed it all no problem, I got my guard card out there in California also so I passed the fbi for that , would that affect me out here ? Can you still take courses like this for an LTC, even with the new law (not sure what exactly?) that says we don't have to have licenses anymore for guns? I want the knowledge, or is it now obsolete?
I’m still going to take the class for the LTC, the new law/bill sounds too good to be true.
It’s best because it helps prove that you’re safe to the state in any situation you should need to use your gun. An extra safety blanket
You technically don't need the license. However, there are places you can't carry with or without the license.
There are several reasons why you would still want to get your license. Especially if and when approached by officers.
Like they said, it's not "entirely" obsolete. Some businesses still don't allow you to open carry a gun. If there's a sign posted near the business entrance, you can't carry it inside. That's their right, as it is still considered private property. If you walk past that sign without a LTC, it's still considered a crime. Also, if you want to travel to another state, a Texas LTC can be used in most other states.
After my class how much is it to do my finger printing and licensing
I have a misdemeanor. Correct me if I'm wrong but I am able to purchase firearms but not able to have a LTC until 5 years?
It depends on the misdemeanor and if it was dismissed or not. I had the same problem
Do you have to have a clean background to get a LTC ?
The answer, of course, depends on the situation and the crime. In the state of Texas, you will not be given an LTC if you have been convicted of a class A or B misdemeanor within the last 5 years. This means, if you have a DWI (a class B misdemeanor) less than 5 years ago, you will not be allowed to obtain your LTC.

If I lost my form from my LTC class after I completed it an I found it 2yr later can I still file it to Get my LTC License or would I just have to take the class again

Back ground check? I have a class c assault maybe 2 of them from 15 years ago. My brothers fault long story but to apply for my ltc do I need to put them down on my application?
I went thru the same problem with a class C misdemeanor. Putt down every arrest and documents as to what was the outcome of the charge. Your welcome

So from the time that I buy a gun and time that I take the class, how will I be allowed to drive home, then to the shooting range for practice, and then to your class?
Hi Jillian! You do not need a LTC to purchase a firearm or have a firearm inside your home or vehicle, therefore you can come to and from the range with your firearm without taking a LTC course.

you can carry the gun in a backpack or its case out to your vehicle. BUT you have to be going to your vehicle or from the vehicle to the house or range. cant carry it into another store on your way. They understand you have to get it from your house to your car. Thats the only time you can "conceal" it without a permit.

Hi there, LTC's only apply to handguns. You are not required to have a license to carry a long gun (rifle or shotgun.)
If you were in the military you can use a military score card if within 10 years

How does having PTSD play in your eligibility to have a CHL?
Pretty sure it’s because some people that suffer from ptsd will not be able to function and process their surroundings to the level needed to responsibly handle a loaded firearm when their PTSD is triggered.

If i do not have a LTC or CHL do I need to have my handgun not in plain view in my car? Or whats the rule on transporting one in a vehicle without a CHL or LTC
I believe a handgun must be concealed either on a belt holster or you can even buy safes that go in your car/ glovebox. A long rifle on like a rack is pretty ok ive heard even just in the backseat I would think, the laws on carrying a long rifle are very liberal. You can keep a handgun in your car (concealed) and carry it to and from your house or car (or boat, the law treats a boat and a car much the same in this regard). If you are going to do this you cannot carry the handgun anywhere public or private (unless its your own private property) you must keep the handgun locked in your car concealed. I am not a lawyer Im going to my LTC class this weekend so thats what im pretty sure is the law as a layman understand. And what I'm definitely not saying is open carry a long gun for protection when you take your boat out or to 7 eleven or something, but keeping a firearm locked in your glovebox without a license is legal by the "texas motorist safety act" so look that up. Also I'm assuming you live in texas because this is the law in texas i dont know about anywhere else again this is not the law this is a youtube comment you should google this. but hey howdy from texas have a nice day.
@@nbpanthers I dont think you can conceal it on your person. I think you can conceal it in the car. glove box. in a bag . It just cant be in plain view. carrying it to your car I would carry it in a case or a bag. NOT a holster on your person.
@@_Delta_P_ No definitely have it on your person that's not illegal at all in fact police want it to be on your person in a shoulder or belt holster... A gun in a glovebox is no good you can't get to it fast enough if someone runs up and yanks you out of your car at a redlight you want that on you not possibly driving away with the criminal
