O God, Our Help in Ages Past (Tune: St Anne - 6vv) [with lyrics for congregations]

- "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" was written by the great English hymn writer Isaac Watts in 1719. It is a paraphrase of the first five verses of psalm 90.
The tune is 'St Anne', probably written by William Croft, possibly when he was organist from 1700-1711 at St Anne's Church in Soho, London. It was first published in 1708.
It is performed here by City of London Sinfonia Brass and The Cambridge Singers.

I'm a Tamizhan, living in Rajasthan, had my schooling st Secunderabad, all in India. Whenever i hear this meaningful hymn, my mind & emotions go back to my school days, when my dear, late Principal, shri. Isaac Jagannathan, would teach us to sing, in our Assembly, before we commence classes for the day.May i take this wonderful opportunity provided by you to pay my Respectful shradhanjali ( heart felt tributes) to his soul & my historic school, St. Thomas ( SPG) Boys' School, Secunderabad? Thanks also to the then Vice- Principal, the late Sri.Rev. V. E. Johnston sir, who also played a key role in developing our school.

To note: in our 1942 Hymnal which Traditional Anglicans use along with the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, the next to the last line in the very last verse reads:
Be Thou out Guide while life shall last
And our eternal home.
The words listed here are:
Be Thou our Guide while troubles last
And our eternal home.
Such beautiful hymns of the past. And still beautiful today.
