Text: Isaac Watts | Tune: ST. ANNE
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home!
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guide while life shall last,
And our eternal home.
(Psalm 90)
This hymn was sung every morning at the start of assembly when I attended school. It fills my heart with joy.
It was often the hymn we sung in assembly too and as I look back I can't think of any better way to start a day as I start this one.
Delene this was also a hymn sung on mornings at my school. Also one of my favorites😊
@@KH-gg9jm It is a wonderful start to the day. Such beautiful words.
My school too 🙏
Same here. Good old days
God was my God in the past, He is my God now and He will be my God forever in Jesus Christ Mighty Name.
“Forever in Jesus Christ” …thank you Betty Angel for putting that in there …
Yesss amennnn Our God forever till eternity
Amen and amen
Amen 🙏
This hymn binds us all to His loving presence.
HATS OFF TO THE ORGANIST! THE INTRO WAS LIT!
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
That line is amazing
Yes.
Love it. Since 1977
Praise God Jehovah for His help from ages past. Let the name Jehovah be glorified. Blessings glory and honour power might and dominion be unto thee my blessed Lord.
This hymn was sung in the first class dining saloon during Sunday services on the R.M.S Titanic.
That's interesting. Didn't know this.
Assuring, Comforting Faithful, Hopeful Lyrics, Melody and Hymn! Beautiful Organ Playing! Beautiful Singing!
My Father, my Father I praise Your holy name and I thank You for Your mighty outstretched arm upon my life. Thank You Jesus.
My faith is built on God from these olden days songs from my childhood days and my upbringing.
This song was sang in my bridal shower..my mom's choice. I now understand this song much more than then.
A mighty, victorious song to sing day and night until the day we see Him face to face, the King of king's and Lord of lord's! Amen! Come soon Lord.
This was also sung at the National Cathedral after 9/11.
Oh is that so....what a time that was😮
This reminds me of my school days, and a time when the world was a better place. The words are so powerful in these old hymns - the modern "worship" music is spineless compared to this power - This is so reverent to God.
Beautiful Hymn!
I remember this hymn from my childhood days in church with my Mother such priceless memories and such a blessing to me to see and hear it again.. Loved it then many years ago and I just love it now
I too, mostly sung at funeral services
Simply delightful. Never get tired listening to this inspiring song.
Bishopites sing this in the morning assembly at The Bishop's School, Pune

An evergreen hymn of FAITH HOPE and LOVE.
Thank you JESUS!
My grandfather told me about this song how he used to sing this song in his time(1950's) and it's beautiful ❤️✨
This song is very deep! It makes me smile at the storms of life
My dad died 50yrs ago this hymn was sung was beautiful then and now,,
God be with you always
Bless you dear.
This evergreen hymn taken from Psalm 90 is for all ages. It shows God's greatness, goodness, majesty and wisdom! Praise the Lord Who is Mighty, everlasting and all- sufficient!!
In our church they only sing choruses led by a single guitar. What a joy this am when I was able to to listen to this wonderful hymn with congregational singing! Our God, our help in ages past is also our help today, He does not change and has not changed!
And will never change!
Amen
This song has soooooo much meaning during this "blast" of COVID-19, when everything looks insecure. David couldn't have said it better-->"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm.46:1). Our heavenly Father is our current Source, and will "supply all your need, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). This is how His Son Jesus displayed perfect trust in the divine will. And it sustained Him through all the torture He endured.
Amen CJ well said! Very true. Our hope is in Jesus.
@@beaulahbhakre4504 Amen 🙏
I am very much inspired that God will always help us.
This was my late mum's best hymn
Looked this hymn up after reading that FDR and Winston Churchill requested this song for their church service after creating the Atlantic Charter.👍

God is good so assuring a song
I still find this song so moving, memories of childhood though I have been an agnostic for many years.
Very appropriate hymn to remind us of our eternal God (Ps 90:2) and our own mortality (Ps 90:10). "So teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom" (v. 12).
E
My school sang it at the beginning and end of every term, and it evokes old memories, pictures and emotions
There is no argument that Jesus came to save me.
Me, too. It is my school song
I like it especially during Evening Prayer as I journey through to Priesthood. ..... It's a beautiful hymn

This hymn comes to mind often ,it really does praise the LORD so well. and start a day off well too.
This was one of the hymns sang on the Titanic during its church service on Sunday, April 14...
My birthday, how about that-one of my favorite hymns(this)had actually been sung on my birthday. Yes, I am aware that my birthday falls on or over the sinking of the Titanic, exactly 57 years before I was born I just figured out(1912-1969).
We have now reached the horrendous milestone of 100,000 British coronavirus dead (four times as many in America, and loads more across the globe); God our help in past, present and future ages will bring us through it---there are brighter times to come.
Esther Hart a woman who survived the tragedy of the Titanic mentions this song in a letter that later sold at auction for 150,000 in 2014. Btw the letter was written on the night iceberg struck. It is the last know letter written on the titanic
Thank you and God bless, from Sri Lanka
This hymn has helped me in ages past. It's my restoration hymn
Glory be to God all mighty 🙏.
When Churchill met Roosevelt in Newfoundland for the first conference between them during the war, he ordered this to be played alongside Onward Christian Soldiers.

Psalm 90:1-6 KJV
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
Wonderful
@New name which no one knows l just received a text from you a few hours ago. This song is a source of strength for me being an American here in the Far East.
Thanks
I love this hymn.
As for me I will ever put The Lord God of Everlasting before my face all the days of my life because he causeth salvation to rest upon this vile sinners heart and overthrew the devices of Lucifer for my soul. I will continue all the days of my life if God allows it to sing of his wondrous grace of that new and living way through his son Christ Jesus the Lord that I may enter the holy of holies to put forth my petitions before the Eternal Everlasting Righteous God that if it's his will he heareth me and I pray my life shall glorify God in thought word and deed and with the KJV scriptures opened before me I pray for understanding wisdom and knowledge to know how to please my Lord of Lords and King of Kings when his eyes are upon me as an embassador for Christ My Everlasting God in Jesus christ name I ask these things for your glory even so amen.
