Nobody talks about it because it’s not on the roll of free bottle brigade. I love this so much. Weirdly This fragrance always reminds me of the assassin creed unity game where you got a mission with Marquis de Sade to solve a mystery. Truly, Marquis de Sade would smell like this fragrance without wearing any fragrance 😄

Hello Ramsey, great and in-depth review again! My top 3 from HdP would be 1740, Fidelis and Tubereuse 3 Animale. The last one - gorgeous, dark tuberose with prominent notes of 'dreaded' immortelle and tobacco - is officially targeted towards women but I'm sure a gentleman like Marquis de Sade would rock it :) I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

I think I liked this second best of that part of HdP’s line, behind 1899 (hey, I’m a sucker for a Spicebomb, too). I thought I’d love 1725 most but it feels a bit too fleeting and synthetic for that genre IMO.
1725 is good but I agree it ranks behind 1740 💪🎃🐏
Before watching, this perfume is nonsensical like most "niche" scents, perfume should lift you up, not drag you down with their heaviness like this one, scent wise also not good enough, and of course zero emotion, typical overhyped niche crap that I can't stand, for an example vintage Versace L'Homme is another dimension compared to this one

HDP 1740 is a stunner. One of the most unique scents in my collection.

This is a good one! Loved it when I first smelled it! 4 days in a row, that must be something! In a way, I like that it's not hyped, I don't want some perfumes to be well-known, hyped, and then talked about just for that reason. Just like when you discover an underrated artist, you love the music and it becomes your secret. It's a great perfume, you did justice to this fragrance with this review!

Interesting. Some of the HDP are attributed go mister Gerard Ghislain. But it is rumored that 1740 was designed by a french perfumer Sylvie Jourdet.
Nevertheless, some of their perfumes are quite beautiful.

Right on. Although there was a time in the past when you couldn't get Pep or me to shut up about it. 😂 I credit him for turning me onto it in 2018 and it's been a joy ride ever since. Don't think I would've been able to handle it earlier that decade though. Inexperienced nose and all that. Quick shout out Vicks VapoRub. 😎 Add some lavender and an effing granny smith apple and you get Tommy. 😆

@@RamseytheRam Agreed! Ps, got a sample of Encens Roi and wasn't disappointed. Lives up to the encens name and I like how the cistus is done in the base. Not a mindblowing scent, but a proper incense indeed.
Love this fragrance. It has a sexy naughtiness that is addictive. Bought a backup 120ml as soon as I received my blind bought 60ml bottle. You nailed the description of this beauty.

Howdy sir! I just discovered your channel. I really appreciate your content because of those long, in depth reviews. Most reviewers just try to go through the notes and tell you if you can get compliments LOL. AC Smells Good is another of my favorite and your style definitely reminds me of him. Although definitely in our great USA style.

I love this 1740 but had to return it to the seller because as much as I enjoy it this does give off some serious sensual vibes and it's quite hard to wear this without being super self-conscious in the good old Midwest office enviroment.... LOL@@RamseytheRam

I have 1740, 1725, Ambre 114, and Noir Patchouli. I’d like to see what you think of Noir Patchouli. It has a retro feel. I really like it as much as 1740.
I have a 15ml discovery atomizer and it is quite good ... one of the better patchouli out there IMHO

I'm surprised you label it as challenging, animalistic, or notably old-school masculine. I typically associate heavy oakmoss with old-school perfumes. This one is rather unusual, but I don't find it particularly challenging or animalistic.
It's more of an all-year-round fragrance, but I prefer to wear it in the spring.
It upsets me that they've dropped part of the name and left only the figure. Whyyyyy...
But for sure, Monsieur De Sade was a weird fu**er. Reading The 120 Days of Sodom many years ago led me to realize that human morals back then weren't as innocent as they're portrayed to us these days lmao

To have you say that 1740 is your favourite Histoires de Parfums fragrance after all the glowing things you said about Ambrarem, that really says a lot. I own 1740, 1899, Ambre 114 and Encens Roi and though I really like them all, my clear favourite is 1740.
Ambrarem is fantastic... BUT in general for me Leather > Amber in my loves
But definately my top 3 are 1740, Ambrarem & Rare Fidelis.... probably in that order but I need to sleep on it 😴😂
Great and very informative review. This was one of the best finds of the last year for me. Upon the first sniff I was shocked, but fortunatelly with a possitive association in my head. It immediatelly returned a memory of my grandma using her propolis tincture when I was a kid. The smell was so familiar yet so "non-perfumy" it derailed me for a while thinking is this really a fragrance? After 10 minutes it started to develop into very intriguing manly scent build on a heavy leather base covered by immortelle. It is very addicting perfume and it evolves so nicely on the skin. Lovely creation that can take some time to appreciate, but once you do, there is no comming back. Performance is awesome!
PS: make sure to check also the review of this fragrance by AC from Smells Good chanel. He did a great job and actually he is the one who made me aware of this fragrance few years back.

This , New York Intense and Cuir Cuba are the best niche I’ve ever smelled. 1740 smells like the finest and aged whiskey 🥃 ever ! Dominant, powerful and distinguished

Thank you for reviewing this. I've always been curious about it especially since I love me a leather chypre. Plus you have turned me on to several of my favorites, such as Tetro alla Scala (sp?)
Also, I have about a dozen fragrances in my burgeoning collection that I don't dig. But.......I keep them around because I suspect my opinion might change as my taste grows/changes/develops.

Top 10 perfumes for sexual deviants! 😂 I have and love this dark, sensual and dirty beauty. Interesting that you said cumin as it’s not listed as a note. 🤔 I’d always wondered what was creating the dirt was but assumed it was the labdanum and leather. Loved your take as usual.

They are both very strong perfumes... dont need to worry about longevity or sillage with either 😂😂

I prefer it to sartorial which is similar but a bit dry for me. Today I wore amber 114 by Histoire. Beautiful amber vetiver.
