I've been fishing for like a gazillion years but am new to fly tying. This is one of the very best of many dozens of videos I've seen ..... thanks. Going to try some small ones for cold water, winter fishing in the next few months. Will probably tie black on a #10 or even a #12.
I just found you and honestly its nuts watching someone tie in reverse. I dont know if i could. I mean im working on 2 years of fly fishikg and tying but it was just assumed to tie clockwise of the eye of the hook was facing me. You are the only person ive seen tie this way. Nice fly btw
@@benperchalski4825 Hey ben! I appreciate you watching. Honestly, in my experience as a guide and instructor I find more and more that there really are no rules in the Fly Tying/ Fly Fishing. YES, there are proper ways to execute specific techniques, but I believe doing things “out of the norm” allows for creativity to flow more effortlessly. Especially in a sport that is largely based on theory and belief 😁🎣
Watched Part II! It works! In the water, does the hook point stay up during stripping and pauses? I like a 2-tone baitfish/minnow and plan to use your technique, thank you.
As an instructor, you can get better results with fewer steps by installing the zonker inverted. Simply pierce it on the point into a near horizontal position. Hook rides up, and your flash is much more visible. Harden the zonker about 3/8" behind the hook to help prevent fouling. Tight lines...Paul
Great looking fly. Curious as to why you tie the fly upside down in the vice and also tie the rabbit strip fur side against the shank? I have never seen that before. Thanks
Thank you! It’s just a preference, I like to see the fly in the vice exactly how I imagine it will swim. I’ve found that tying the fur side up gives the fly an extra wiggle jig action, try it out! You’ll love it 👍😎🎣
Bought something similar about 2 years ago and dead drifted them as more of a leach. Worked wonders but lost all of them a while ago. This video popped up and im going to have to make some
Yeah, Bud, FireHole didn’t design that hook. It was made by a company in UT who sold the design/production to Fulling Mill, and FH ripped it off- poorly, I might add.
We don’t have too many opportunities for crappie here in NM but I’d imagine they would love it! Bass love it, carp love it, trout love it, even musky dig it lol Try it on some crappie and let me know! 😎🎣
Come check out part 2! I put this fly to the test.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I’m glad it was useful to you! Definitely tie them up in a #10 and #12, trout will tear them up no doubt 😎👍

@@paulandsallyh5824 thanks Paul! I’ll give that a shot. 👍
I like the way you think. There are beeswax pink sticks at the bead stores that pickup bead and help with the install .
Nick, this is a great all around d streamer tie, thank you for the detailed instructions.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching Mike 😁👍
Looks good. I will try that this weekend. Thank you.
Awesome! Let me know how it works out for you 😎👍
Hello. I'm new here and I have just connected to your channel. Got you through my partner Stewart The Fish Whisperer's live stream. 🙂🙂🙂
Hey wendy! Thanks for coming and checking out the channel.

Very nice leach pattern. What color flashabou did you tie with in the vid?
Thank you! I used Olive extra strength flashabou 👍

Yes! These are extremely effective when dead drifted. That’s great. Let me know how they work out for you 😎🎣
Nice simple fly. I don't think I have seen anyone wind thread in the direction you use though.
@@richardwhite9682 not the first time I’ve heard that lol I actually use either direction depending on the materials and technique I’m using.
Hell yeah! This is awesome!
Thanks man! 😎🤙🏽
Dude, nice looking fly, but are you wrapping backwards?
LOL Yes I got into that habit when I first started tying and I never broke it. 😂
Why not just put a dubbing loop collar at the bead?
Saw ya today on the river, nice fly!
@@devansieben892 that would definitely work, but I wanted the hook shank on the top to remain exposed and create a bulky belly. 😎👍
@@veterunco4405 thanks man! I appreciate you taking the time to find the channel 😁🤙🏽
Awesome video. Just subbed!
Thanks man! 😎🤙🏽
I can’t use a whip finishing tool either! Hopeless!😅
LOL hey whatever gets the job done! The whip finish is overrated 😂

Interesting. Well it’s a great hook design!
I was enjoying this… then my ocd saw you wrap/wind in reverse
@@BrokenHandedFlies LOL 😂 you’re not alone! Many fly tiers are shooketh by my reverse wrap.
@ great pattern though!
@@BrokenHandedFlies thank you! I hope it does you well! 🎣👍
Does it catch a lot of crappie?

is it supposed to be used on euro nymphing rig ?
I suppose on a euro rig it may perform best. But I just use it as a streamer or on a normal nymph rig and it works beautifully! 😁🤙🏽🎣
Ammmmmm
I catch 75% of my trout on micro-buggers
@@stevemiller2470 trout love their protein 😂🎣
