I recall Mark saying he started out with fingerstyle, it's pretty uncomfortable and it doesnt seem useful to use a pick when you have such a background, especially when playing this type of music. Maybe in metal or some heavier music it's useful, but other than that i think a pick just gets in the way
This HAS to be played without a pick or you just wouldn't get the tone right. This is an excellent cover and is note for note, but it lacks the subtle feels of the original, but then there is only one Mark Knopfler....

So many people do this solo on TH-cam. Most of them are flatpicking and using at least some distortion. This girl uses a super clean tone and fingerpicks ala Mark K. Best cover I've seen. Fearless in her clean tone where you can't hide any mistakes.
