    So apparently the ink injection method of the fencing jacket isn't confirmed and is likely a myth so for the time being disregard the S tier of the tierlist. I am going to try email the CCP team about this as apparently they will sometimes respond to clear up misinformation.

    Intestine as a clothing material isn't that weird. When worked with tiny stitches of sinew thread, tanned by soaking and smoking it, you can make a completely water tight material good for raincoats or protective packaging and the fact it's translucent and often crinkly gives it an interesting effect. Kniting it is a little weird though, especially with that photo looking like such a loose knit that the waterproof properties are entirely nullified.

    it is definitely best to tread with caution when it comes to carol info online- the injection of dye into the veins of a living animal is almost certainly just folklore spread by people using it as a way to drum up controversy and views among a younger fashion crowd who get their primary info from tiktok and youtube- a mad artist committing horrible cruelty sells far better than a skilled craftsman using an unconventional technique(injecting dye between the layers of raw hide). but the myth connects quite well to the themes that carol's work endeavors to leave its audience with + it's not hurting his team financially so it really just adds to the mystique. anyways great video! you're putting out some really solid work

Extreme cruelty to animals would seem like a myth most designers would want to shake.

      Its a myth, caused by people trying to explain an effect they see without proper understanding and jumping to conclusions.
      And here is the proof, highlighting the effect, on a pair of boots made of guidi reverse horsebutt leather:
      preview.redd.it/u84iwc1ksg7a1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa32e4e202c5af7bda8f97d7e0e956fc33128ce0
      This example proves that one does not need to use any strange or cruel techniques to achieve such an effect.
      When dying the leather, dye can be absorbed much more quickly by the blood vessels compared to other parts of the skin, so you get this effect.

Thanks and keep up the incredible meaningful work that you’re doing. Your efforts are extremely appreciated and you’re making a huge impact. I’m serious, I got (took) so many notes from this video alone that will guide my creative process and the intention behind my work and I resonated with the designer you described as well as with your own artistic and intellectual ethos.

    I make my own weird clothes made out of weird materials. Today I sold a hand-made macrame bracelet made with domestic turkey vertebrae. I once made a dress out of a disposable trash bin meant for parties. I didn’t have a sewing machine for a long time, so I still usually sew my clothes by hand, tediously and meticulously. I made decoration for my wall from a deer spine I found and cleaned, which took around two months to finish. I made a bracelet out of my friends’ wisdom teeth. And even I find this guy morbid and overly pretentious.

      yeah 100%, the two areas where Rick absolutely bodies CCP are 1) comfort (the 88% viscose 12% silk fabric he uses sometimes is ssssooooo good) and 2) breaking gender norms. i'm nonbinary but tall and broad-shouldered so if i wear clothing made for women, the shoulders are tight & there's often room for a bust where i don't have one- the clothing is constantly reminding me that it wasn't made for me, and it feels horrible mentally. Rick's men line has some (like 20%, which i think is a good number because a "men's line" should still be mostly masculine-coded) very gender-ambiguous stuff that can be styled masculine, feminine, or androgynously. like the long-line shirts and tops that are simple shirts or tank top silhouettes in the shoulders and chest, but are as long as some dresses, and slim enough to clearly not be "oversized" or baggy

    6:28 Those staples look very much like a typical Isaac Sellam detail to me, although they have Carol's dead end seams... Does anybody know whether that was a collaboration or something?

    • @Matt-uf2nc
      @Matt-uf2nc 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Good eye, this is an isaac sellam jacket. Sellam was inspired by the dead end seams and applied his staple motif to the concept.

    I want to make a prediction: in 2024 or 2025, the biggest streetwear disruptor will be knitted jumpers. I'm talking those big, thick durable jumpers that 1900s Nordic fishermen would wear.
    I don't know how it'll happen, but just like Japanese and American workwear, I believe that their combination of durability, variety of iconic patterns and ease of use as a single item will give them great crossover appeal once that jump is made somehow.

    Regarding the contradictory statements and incongruous gender segregation- I think it's just that he wasn't done thinking about it and/or experimenting. This would kind of position these collections as a step towards something else, true experiments (as in, trying stuff, not knowing if they're gonna be the final answer to anything).

    Interesting video but I’d have to agree with CCP that he’s not an artist. Even Rei from CDG claims she isn’t an artist and same with Margiela after quitting.
    Fashion is design not art. It have functional purpose first. Art serves no function. It’s purely a way to emotionally connect and help people mentally.
    Fashion is more along the lines of architecture. Yes your functional mechanisations can be aesthetic but they still serve a persons use.
    Film, music & painting are art because they aren’t tangible. So yes he’s a designer but not an artist.

    • @khris461
      @khris461 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Vivacomunismofunction as in practicality. No you cannot be practical with music. You can go your whole life without music and not much will change. Same with not being able to ever see a painting or watch a film.
      Fashion. Clothing. Is artisanal. But not artist. It is designed to cover your body which originally is practical to protect from weather and other terrain conditions. They are artisans like the person who handcrafts a basket or weaves a rug. But they are not artists.
      If you just start calling everything art then nothing is art. It needs barriers. Get over it, there’s nothing wrong with fashion not being art.
