    Very timely, was legit out on the Delta this past weekend thinking I could brush up on my punching techniques. Good call on that jig bite though haha, I would've done the same.

    I like a nice parabolic bend in the rod...then states he uses a fast action lol a moderate or moderate fast is where I thought you were going

    • @TheBassHookup
      @TheBassHookup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I know it sounds dumb...but that rod doesn't act like its a fast action. It's hard to find a rod now of days that actually says it's a moderate action heavy rod.

    Thanks for all your great vids. What do you look for as far as depth under the mats when punching

    • @TheBassHookup
      @TheBassHookup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to have 2-5ft although some of the biggest fish I've ever caught punching came in about 1 foot of water. The majority is in the 2-5foot range though.

    Hey nick, thanks for the great punching tips. I was wondering does punching work early in the morning as well, and does it work year round? Or only during summer and hot days ?

    • @TheBassHookup
      @TheBassHookup  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely works first thing in the morning! I did really well in an FLW event a long time ago and I only had a punch rod on deck. Caught fish first thing in the morning on it

      Hey Rob, it's in a gated community I have access to. And it's actually fishing pretty tough for a private pond. What kind of boat are you having built?

      @@TheBassHookup gatortrax strike series 20 ft. Bass boat with a center console. Needed a boat that I can fish out of in retirement 8 years. Plus you never know how the knees and back will be so opted for center console. I tried some punching today and used your tips. No fish, but never tried pulling bait up to the bottom of the mat. I have a question for you. I can only afford two fish finders, or a trolling motor with spot lock. Is it more important to have the fish finders, or the trolling motor?

    • @TheBassHookup
      @TheBassHookup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one. To me it depends on where you fish. If you fish the delta 99% of the time I'd definitely say trolling motor first and then maybe save for some graphs. If you mainly fish lakes then the graphs are more important to me. Unless you only fish shorelines then graphs wouldn't be so important. So it all depends

    • @robertrodriguez4587
      @robertrodriguez4587 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBassHookup I fish lakes 90% of the time. Delta probably 10%. I fish year round so I have to go deep on these California lakes. Lol

    • @TheBassHookup
      @TheBassHookup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertrodriguez4587 then I'd definitely go for graph's. I think that'll help you catch more fish on lakes for sure. And save up for a TM down the line.

    Going to have to disagree with you on your reel selection. Nothing wrong with lews they make a great reel, but Shimano and Diawa make light weight heavy action reels as well. Like the Shimano Tranx 300 has 22 lbs of drag and the Diawa Tatula 300 HS, has 28 lbs of drag and can hold 175 yds of 65 lb braid. I’ve have both and have punched big 3 to 8 lbs bass no problem and have caught 20lb yellowtail of the coast of Dana point where I live with no problems. I don’t think a lews can handle a 20lb yellowtail just saying. Anyways good luck.
