    The OEMs are making everything on a vehicle unserviceable by the DIYer. That way the dealership can service the vehicle and make additional revenue. Eventually, the dealership will sabotage your vehicle so that you buy a new one. I stopped taking my vehicle to the dealership for service and the problems stopped occuring. I DIY it or have a reputable mechanic work on my vehicle. I got tired of having to tighten connectors and bolts that somehow got loosened after a dealership oil change or other dealership services.

      That can and does happen every day at independent shops everywhere in the U.S. I've seen it myself plenty of times at places that have great reviews. Amazing reviews in fact, and my car was the one they decided to try to mess with, even after being a loyal customer.
      And theres not much you can do, except find a different shop. I know I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince them to do the right thing, when I know they wont.
      And its happened to family members of mine on the other side of the country, at independent shops, not dealerships.
      Obviously not every independent shop is a scum hole, obviously, but in a major city, the majority of them are sketchy & not to be trusted. Doesnt matter whether its dealership or independent, in todays world, dont be surprised if your car is worse off than when you brought it in. Happens all. the. time.

    Most modern automatic transmission have a "live time" filling and no need to replace the filter. But you should do a service at around 100k Km, no matter what the manufacturer says .

    • @hyperwebbing
      @hyperwebbing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you're failing to point out in your description of Lifetime is that its definition is not what you think it is we think for as long the vehicle is on the road or for as long as you continue to drive it but that is not the case the manufacturer considers a lifetime to be basically the warranty. So if it's 5 years 60k miles since purchase.... that's the lifetime length

    • @jurgenvau552
      @jurgenvau552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the ZF 8HP automatic transmission, the oil should last a lifetime, with which ZF of course mainly wants to cover the guarantee and good will period. One concedes, however, that an oil and filter change beyond 120k km would not be a damage. I've certainly also seen BMW's 7' 01 with 250k on the speedometer and the customer doesn't want a gearbox service coz the thing is still performing well. I would always advise a gearbox servive if the car has done over 120k km.

      Actually even if you did try to drain out the fluid in your transmission you only be getting a portion of it almost half of it will reside in the torque converter part of it will still be stored in other Areas of the transmission and lot of times they are held back by multiple solenoids /valves which is the reason why he said you need someone that had the right equipment so it could push the fluid through out the transmission either to push it all out or to push it through when adding to fill it completely and yes some Transmissions you can just fill them up to a hole in the case that will flow out when full that also AIDS overfilling. But don't say something like that cuz you don't know what you're talkin about. PS unless something is been proven to be better than OEM fluid always always get the manufacturer's fluid otherwise you could you ruin your transmission if the fluid you bought is different and the pressure is different and also the viscosity/ lubricity

    A 2018 Acura MDX has a complex "procedure" to change the transmission fluid. It entails heating the transmission up and cycling the 9 speed thru the first 4 speeds in a VSA mode. Then opening the side plug to watch the fluid begin to drain out. Is this procedure absolutely necessary or can it just be drained and refilled? I am reluctant to mess with it because of the involved process .

    FREE MILWAUKEE DRILL FOR WHOEVER SOLVES MY MYSTERY:
    I have a 02 Dakota 3.9L 4x4 with a 42RE transmission. I bought this to give to my mother and have been rebuilding the truck, front end, suspension, cosmetics etc. This weekend I did tire rotations, oil, transmission etc on the Dakota and my silverado. My silverado is happier than could be but the Dakota went from running and driving to park and reverse only (no foward gears) here's the odd part. The truck was on ramps on the front end and I left it there when I dropped the pan to clean it and replace the filter (there's only one, no screw on filter here) and gasket. I put everything together and topped off with ATF+4. I got 10 quarts or just over two gallons out from the pan drop. This was odd as I did not expect this much fluid without draining the torque converter. I put the same amount back in then had my other half push me off the ramps while in nuetral so we could sit flat and check the levels. Everything looked great then as I was shifting through gears the linkage shifter cable snapped while in nuetral. I had to turn the truck off in nuetral and get a new cable. (Turns out someone duct taped it together) The cable is installed however I only have park an reverse, no foward gears. The torque converter is good or I wouldn't have reverse. The linkage is moving at the trans from the shifter, fuses are good linkage is good. What could've happened? I did notice I was always up the dipstick between min and max and added a half quart with unexpectedly brought the level up to 1/4″ above max on the dipstick. I plan to re drain the pan and remove the extra half quart but should a half quart really have made that much difference on the dipstick? Nearly an entire inch higher in fluid level? What's going on and how do I get my foward motion back.
    Note: whoever solves this mystery I will send a free milwaukee 1/2″ hammer drill, she's used and a spare but it's a show of my gratitude.
