I have found that successful aluminum milling with my 3030 is mostly a matter of patience and rigid mounting. That said, I am looking forward to upgrading to the 1.5k spindle.

Thank you for this video. I have the exact same machine as you.
Even though people on the internet say it's impossible, I'm going to try to do what you have done and cut aluminium.
Can you give some more information about the blower fan you installed? I want some kind of air blast, but don't want to buy a huge compressor.

If you spindle can handle it you can increase both the speed and rpm especially at that DOC, with that bit you can go much deeper at speed. We cut alumimium at 20k+rpm, 1500-2000mm and DOC in excess of 1/32 (2mm) with a 1/16 (3mm) bit.

Thank you for the suggestions! Unfortunately the maximum speed of this spindle is 10k rpm, so I can't increase the feeds or depth of cut without getting chatter. I'm definitely going to upgrade to a vfd spindle soon.

@@andreabotti99 Chatter must be more to do with the rigidity of your CNC, the bit will cut through aluminium like a hot knife through butter. I'd question therefore if the priority is an upgraded spindle or perhaps exploring ways to improve the machine first?

@@TheCNCDen From my understanding, the shafts on these cheap DC spindles are inherently not very rigid, regardless of the rest of the machine. I'm already running linear rails and lead screws, so the base platform should already be rigid enough. But I will definitely keep this in mind, thanks

@@andreabotti99 Got it, you'll know more about them than I do.
