This is my dream bike. Where I live in New Zealand I've only ever seen one in person. When they come up for sale they are put up for a high price because of demand and sold really fast. If I ever get the money to get one, fuel will be ruled out for electric and I wouldn't be able to fill it up with crazy prices haha. I'll just enjoy my 2005 CBR600rr for now.
I have family on the North island in New Zealand so I know your struggle! Definitely expensive compared to North America. Seems like most people over there are running adventure style bikes like the ktm 1290r
We basically have the same bike. Mine is a 2013. Been thinking of selling, one the weight, I miss having a lighter bike like the 600s. Another is the heat this bike produces no matter how much I ride it it still kills me! Doesn't help mine is also all black and most of my gear is also all black lol. I love how the bike looks, was one of my dream bikes to own and every time I see it I remember why I wanted it but for sure not perfect.
I have noticed the heat as well. I’ve already got the bike up to 109c on the cluster and our ambient temps haven’t got much warmer that 20c yet this spring. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my old bike get that hot even with 40c weather! I’m sure when summer hits with 30c or more the heat issue will become more pronounced as well. I guess it’s just nature of the beast with these bikes unfortunately. Overall still a very fun bike to own though! What do you think your next bike will be?
@@JT2JZ Yeah for sure still a great bike. Even if I get rid of mine I still consider it one of the best looking bikes out there. But I'm not sure yet what my next bike will be. Been kinda wanting another 600....
@@JT2JZ have you tried 450cc motocross bikes? Those get insanely hot. Last summer we did a test with my friend's bike. How long could I hold my hand on the exhaust from cold start, until it's too hot to touch. It literally took only few seconds before it was hot. I don't even know how it warms up so fast. The bike was ktm 450 sx-f, so might be bit racier than your average 450.
Hell yeah brother! If you like supras check out some of my older vids. It’s ran a 10.5 second pass in the 1/4 mile. Will be getting more footage and aiming for a 9 second pass in the future!
I think the chugging is more apparent when under load in a high gear, at low rpm. Like pulling away from a stop in 2nd or 3rd gear. I love it though lol
Your test doesn’t show the high frequency buzz out of a flatplane inline 4 that makes your hands numb after an hour which the crossplane yamaha has completely eliminated. The crossplane is far and away a much better streetbike/sport tourer
It’s funny. I started my TH-cam channel to make supra videos because I thought these cars are pretty popular. Most of my supra vids have almost zero views and almost all of my bike videos get views instantly. Took me by surprise
They both offer a very different riding experience. At the end of the day you really can’t go wrong with either generation no matter what bike you choose.
Hi, beautiful and informative video. I have to pick this week an r1 and still can't sort it out which one to buy, wold you give me an advice?? I have to choose between an R1 2009 27k miles and r1 2007 15k miles done. Both in beautiful condition . 09 cost 8000 eur. 07 6000 eur , it is worth the 09 ( with modes and abs ) over the 07 ? Please help me to decide bro. THANKS
The 2009 will not have abs. Just the power modes. I would say if you are looking for a bike to just turn the key and ride without having to work on it at all the older 2007 will likely be slightly more reliable. If you want something a little bit more unique but may have to wrench on it a little bit here and there. Get the 2009. At the end of the day they are both great bikes. I’ve had three bikes. A 2004, and two different 2006. In total I have worked on my new 2012 R1 more than all three of my old bikes combined. With that being said my 2012 is still the most enjoyable to ride. Hope that helps! Cheers.
@@JT2JZ Thanks I just have read this message and my 09 R1 it's parked in the back yard ( finally My dream bike it's home ) Thank you, I had drive it for 40 km today back home from previous owner and OMG! This is the most enjoyable sound and drive then everything I tried before ! Very soon I will star my Moto vlogging with it! Just waiting now for logbook and insurance to be done! Thank you for getting back to me!
I enjoy riding both bikes but the crossplane is faster and has more of a “fun” factor to me. As far as sound goes that’s a matter of opinion. Some people love the crossplane sound but some people hate it. I think they sound great!
On your 2012 r1 did u do the clutch mod on it with a 07-08 clutch Disk I see other bikers on here that did it and it helps I have a 13 r1 and wanna do it but need more info on how to do it correctly but I’m guessing it will fix that problem with the low Raines rpm and ride smooth like the 07-08 r1s
I haven’t heard about that mod yet. Thanks for the tip! I’m pretty new to the crossplane world. I’ll definitely look into it more and get back to you with my thoughts on it.
How many real miles you had on your 06 R1, did you ever checked/set the valve clearances and synchronized the TBs. Did you have problems with clutch basket. I have 04, engine running smooth and still pulls strong.
My 2006 had 30,000kms and not a single issue. Ran silky smooth. Never checked valves or anything. I know guys with 60,000kms and same thing, no issues! I just changed the oil and air filter once a season and rode it hard! All of my bikes before the 2006 have been just as good. This Crossplane has genuinely been the only bike I have ever had issues with.
Clutch was solid. Never had any weird noises ever. Never had any issues even after racing it at the track or messing around popping the clutch with wheelies for days on end. Probably the best bike I have ever owned
Love the video. Its funny cause i just bought an 05 and i was totally against anything after the 07 or whenever they had changed to the crossplane firing order , I think its the rough rumble that throws me off, bro is the power a huge difference on your new bike or what ?
I didn’t like the crossplane bikes for the longest time either but I must say after having one for this summer I do enjoy it now! My 2012 crossplane definitely has more power than my old 2006 R1. The crossplane is noticeably heavier though and has a few quirks as well. I’m probably going to make a video on it soon.
That’s pretty tough luck. A bill that expensive pretty much makes the bike a total loss. Cost more to fix it than it’s worth. May as well sell for parts and buy a different bike.
Custom Made and I don’t think the supplier is making them anymore. I love them, crazy bright! Hopefully they never fail or else I will have to source something else.
Flate plane runs smoother and has more grunt under 6000rpm. Crossplane hits harder in the mid range ( above 6000rpm ) and keeps pulling a little better up top end as well.
Hell yeah brotha! Lots of vids with my supra if you look on my channel from roughly a year ago. It makes 750whp or so. It’s ran a 10.5 in the 1/4 mile. I’m trying to run a 9s pass with it soon.
You see the milled out head stock on the cross plane, they are so desperate to get the weight down. Thanks, but no thanks. My 05 is one the lightest ever made, and even today, after the 2015, they are piling on pounds.
they are a lot better with a flash and the engine braking turned down.....id take a Crossplane all day over ever having the angry vacuum sound of 90% of 4 cyl sportbikes and especially the high end harmonics that vibrate the bike like an electric razor. Im used to a big cammed car that has crazy heavy lope and overlap and even then its smoother on long trips than an older r1 to me
@@JT2JZ Yeah, i only wish we all could afford owning different bikes and different classes at the same time. Still cant understand why so many people like the sound of crossplane better though. Perhaps they find flatplane sound too generic, i dont know. Anyway, cool bikes you got there. Peace.
It’s one of those bikes that sounds a little better in person rather than a video. Similar to V4 bikes when you only hear vibrations and rattles in videos
X-Plane crank motor sounds great and when I rode one you could feel the power strokes going through the whole bike , loved it !
Definitely a unique experience. I love it too!
Crossplane thumbs up

For sure. These Crossplane engines definitely don’t like to be lugged with a lot of load down low.
