    Neevesy you dodged the Tiger 1200 vibe question, is the un-symmetrical firing order unpleasant in comfort terms as Triumph triples are normally super smooth. I get the impression many potential Tiger purchasers are put off.

    Had a 2013 mod R1. One of the best sports bikes I have owned. Had lots of earlier R1 models plus lots of other bikes over 35+ years of bike ownership. That cross plane bike was awesome. Had the susp set up, full exhaust system and a few other tweaks. Also I had some of the best rides on it in the rain! Found I could push on and the bikes front end just seemed to “talk” to me! Only sold it as I clicked 44k miles. Still miss it today. 👍🏻

    Thanks for producing the best motorcycling content on the internet, absolutely magic and well considered. If you will indulge my long intro.
    Following on from your Perfect Power for a Street Bike. Whilst out on my stock 1995 Daytona 1200 (147 hp) on a 4 Deg C November day I overcooked it on an overtake and spun out the back wheel in a straight line. I got a little sideways, recovered and carried on (small brown stain developed). The day was dry enough but too cold to get any heat in the tyres. One another cold slightly wet day I spun the rear end up climbing a modest incline. I thought my clutch was slipping for what seemed like ages but it was actually my rear wheel spinning, not so dramatic this time as I was bolt upright with zero lean.
    After riding modern bikes for so long, a Tiger 1200 and now a 1250GS have I lost my ability to fully respect these powerful bikes? I think nothing of the traction light popping up these days on a hard charge up an incline. I don't remember having this problem on my Daytona when I owned it in my 30's. Out of that come these questions for you.
    Q1 - Have modern bikes taken the intelligence out of riding or are they saving people from their own silliness ?
    Q2 - If I can't stop my analogue rear end spinning up on a cold dry day with 147 ponies does this mean 170, 180 even 200 hp bikes are pointless in that the electronics will never let you use it in the real, road based world?
    and Q3 - any recommendation for a tyre that you know performs in the COLD? I currently run a pair of Bridgestone BT-023 Sport/Touring with plenty of tread which I have always liked but beginning to think they are not for me in the COLD.

Do you think it’s worth to spend on a Dainese airbag suit? Does it really makes a huge difference in safety in comparison to just a leather suit without it? Thanks

    It's always to pleasant to hear your answers. I recall that you were quite enthusiastic about the Tiger 1200 ... it's interesting that you favor it over the RT. (I'm a Triumph Sprint rider, BTW.) I did a test ride on the Tiger last year and I liked it a lot. I don't click with ADV aesthetics, though, I don't need off-road capabilities. On the other hand, the V100 Mandello that I did a test ride on this past June was very impressive. I didn't sense any rocking from the engine or lift from the shaft drive. It was one of 17 bikes I rode over the course of two days at bike festival (Americade) - it was one of three that stood out for me (the Street Triple and M1000R being the other two).

    I'm 62 and still riding my TL 1000r and love it, i know a lot of people didn't like this bike and it had it's problems but for me its all down to your right hand like you channel, any thoughts on the TL ?

    Regarding the impartiality of journalists on bike launches: around 2003 Performance Bikes used to include a (very tongue in cheek) "integrity free bike score" where they would rate the location, accommodation, food, etc of the launch 😂

    I can wheelie a push bike till the cows come home I can stick it up on the balance point and skim the rear brake without the need to pedal once up until I stop, but… I can’t wheelie a motorbike , I think it comes down to a) practice b) not a fear of flipping it c) having the space to practice. Thanks for the video 👍 I don’t fancy flipping my 20k multi so I guess I’ll have to keep dreaming .. or go to wheelie school 🤔

    I bought a new R1 in 2009 but it was the 08 model with a massive discount. It was the day the cross plane crank bike went on sale. My first ride was to the beach where i was met by a guy who was on his first ride on a cross plane crank bike. He traded in the old model and knew already it was a much better machine. I never got on with my R1 because of its lack of low down grunt and 2 years later bought a blade instead which I loved. I didnt go for the cross plane crank R1 as it was ugly compared to the 08 model R1 I had which was gorgeous in blue with gold wheels and it was also big and heavy compared to the blade at the time too

    Hi Michael - absolutely love this series of yours, keep ‘em coming! My question - why don’t we see Ducati at the IoM TT? I had heard that Ducati won’t permit teams over durability concerns but all the bikes, even Superstock, are set up for TT course and Ducati run successfully in WSBK and BSB?

    I had a 2009 R1 for a few months earlier this year. Sold it pretty quickly because of the ergonomics. I'm a tall rider, at 6'4" i can hardly expect any superbike to be a great fit, but the 2009 R1 was borderline unrideable for me. The main reason was the front fairings having that horizontal small lip sticking out to the sides on knee height, whenever i slid up the tank my knees would crash into it with enough force to be painful at times, not the type of thing you want to think about when hitting the brakes hard. In general i had a hard time moving around on it, always felt like i couldn't get my arms out of the way of my legs. Those issues i could've probably gotten rid of with some rear sets, clip ons and a tank spacer, but i got a pretty good deal selling it on. Also be aware that the gel battery that comes with the bike is barely capable of getting it started when it's warm, no chance in the cold. A lithium ion battery is pretty much a must have. Loved the engine sound though and the looks did grow on me after a while.

    Well now... as i have owned several R1s my favorite was the 09 R1 out of the lot. That being said, the worst bike in stock format (from the factory ) was the 09 R1!. Almost felt like something was broken in the front end, the rear shock was just ok, the brakes were a little underwhelming. The clutch also weak and 3k rpm launches were common... However... After some brake pad changes, GYTR clutch kit, new suspension and setup, ecu flash and even a fuel tuner. BEST HANDLING BIKE EVER. Out of the 42 bikes ive owned , no bike has handled as good as that R1 (again after the changes). One things for sure... it doesnt snap crankshafts. Lookin at you 2015+.

    I owned a pink framed crossplane R1 , sounded fantastic with full twin akras but felt very heavy and as usual with yamaha the brakes were about as effective as a hamster wheel .

I am too scared to drop my only bike, a street triple RS on the track and its keeping me from progressing further. What bike would you recommend in a modest price range? I'm thinking of a fireblade 954, a RSV mille, or maybe a GSX-R 750.

    As A Guzzi V100S owner have to agree with Neevesy's comments on the factory luggage, it is a bit tight for for even one on a long trip, its also a bugger to pack due to the shape of the cases. Other luggages such as H&B and Givi just look awful on the bike. Ive also heard a few pillions comment that it feels a wee bit cramped in the leg department. Its still an amazing bit of kit though. Love mine to bits

    Love these videos. Question: where do you see the future of Motorcycle racing going? 600 is a dying segment for the road but still quite popular in club racing. In 10 years what will be the option for those who want something a step below 1000's? Will 1000s be the only option, are twin ~660s a real substitute for 600s, or do you think new machines will take its place (R9, 890r, etc)? I would love to hear your thoughts as a racer yourself.

    Hi Neevesy, I love your presenting style and content. I have a question for you, well a scenario.
    I'd love to see a test utilising several different corner types, not seperately, with straights included.
    The test rider would go through each corner, entry, exit using different riding styles. I'd love to see what the comparison is in times between an elbow down, knee down 90's style and a more upright (knee, but less hanging off) method.
    All on a modern bike, modern tyres, maybe on something like a twin.

    Anyway, when you're not working, doing test rides, writing, or recording these videos, I was wondering what do you do for down time?
    Do you still enjoy jumping on the latest long term review bike, and just riding around the block, to the local cafe with mates or have you had enough of motorcycles and just sit Infront of the TV and binge watch a series?

    Regarding tyres for track riding. At what point can you move to slicks? I’d love to try them (probably the Pirelli slicks) and I’m currently using Supercorsa SC3. Presumably the tread makes them easier to get up to temperature and maintain it? Many say you won’t benefit or keep temperature in them until you’re in the fast group but then I read something by Simon Crafar saying they always used slicks for students as it gave confidence to know the grip was there and they just chose compound based on the rider. Thoughts?

    Not to flog a dead horse (Wheeliing) but the one area I still have issue with is how to best handle one when going fast over a rise in the road like the jump at Caldwell or IOM. Never sure of my body position and never confident that I'm not gonna loop it trying to style it out. Thanks in advance.

    Great vids! I'm a sports bike rider so i love hearing about what bikes were like at launch in comparison to what people say now (I started riding in 2016).
    When it comes to riding in the UK, where do would you go ride for a days ride out. And then perhaps a couple days out and then even a weeks ride?
    I've heard about riding in Scotland but I'm interested in learning about other areas. Midlands based so Wales isn't mega for away and travelling else where isn't the a big deal.
    Would like to do a ride into Europe, but the idea of riding a 959 in different countries with reliability scares me a little 😂

      That's a good question! I know you'd prefer an answer from Neevesy (hope you get one) but I can add something here. I live in Telford so I ride in Wales a lot. Road to Barmouth from Welshpool is great. Also Tanat valley through Bala and on to Porthmadog is great. An addition to the Barmouth on is turn left at Dolgellau which takes you on the LHS of the Mawdachh estuary and onto Twynn through the Mach Loop. My personal favourite is from Newtown to Llandrindod Wells via devils elbow, then you can extend to Bulith wells - Brecon - Sennybridge - Black Mounain. There are loads more in Mid Wales, a lot centred around Rhaedaer but just go and explore you'll have lots of fun.

      @JamchesterBoozle Nice! My personal short route is through Bridgenorth, Bewdley and then onwards to Leominster. If i fancy a longer ride I'll carry on to Crossgates and either turn around or head towards Newtown and a loop back towards home.
      Carried on from Crossgates to Aberystwyth a few times too. Elan Valley is another personal favourite of mine.
      Been to Bala a couple times and both times were great but unfortunately i don't have to route i took written down.
      Really want to learn more routes, as fun as riding roads you enjoy are, sometimes it gets stale.

    I am 42years old, have started riding motorcycles for 3 years. And recently have been to 2 track days. I really enjoyed them. And think of getting a bike that I can take to track days. Should I get a ducati supersport s or should I stretch my budget and get a Panigale v2? Or could you kindly recommend a bike with IMU electronics and 2 way quick shifter?

    Just done my first track day, used my street triple 675R, obviously a great bike. However as good as it is, and even though it was my first track day, I already felt like it was slow on the straights. I’m tempted to get something bigger but not sure if I’m experienced enough for a super bike. The obvious choice is a GSXR 750 which I’ll probably end up getting. Track day was on Angelsea circuit, which was absolutely brilliant very enjoyable! Thanks Neevesy for all the track day tips they added so much to my day.

      I had the same issue with my CBR600RR. Then I realised I wasn’t on full throttle and I was changing up at about 11,000 rpm. Too many years riding on the road. Getting full on the throttle asap and changing up at 13-14,000 rpm made a huge difference. P

      I’m not now red lining the bike (15,000). Just getting a lot closed and getting the throttle wide asap. Litre bikes that were flying by are now finding it not so easy.

    Hi Neevesy. Really enjoying your Q&As. I've recently returned to biking after 25 years (I know - why the hell did I ever stop riding?!) I'm loving my CB500F starter bike but would like to upgrade to a middleweight naked next year. Could you please give a bit of info on the general differences between engine types? I noticed that you described a parallel twin as sounding 'like a lawnmower'. I'm looking for an engine with a bit more character. Maybe a CB650R with its inline 4 or a Monster 821 with its L twin. What do you reckon? Thanks

    @CarlosMartinsPT I ride a similar bike (VFR1200F), these are not bikes to learn how to wheelie on, they will lift on throttle and of course clutch up but it takes a skilled hand to do it safely, I actually fight to keep the front down on the drag strip but using so much throttle on the road seems absurd.
    Get a dirt bike, it will be cheaper than new BMW fairings, it’s easier to learn on and you can drop it all day.

    Hi Michael,
    Having never ridden a modern day superbike (I have a 14 plate gsxr 750) I recently got the chance to ride a 2022 S1000RR Msport colours for a few hundred miles in france. I was amazed by its smoothness, power, ease of turning and found it confidence inspiring. It felt like a very well made bit of kit. Modern engineering is something to be amazed by!
    The only thing I struggled with was the rear brake lever position which I've never heard mentioned in any reviews. Its extremely difficult to reach and found myself being forced to use front brake when ideally I'd have used a touch of rear. Is there anything you can do to change this on the S1000RR from stock or by purchasing aftermarket parts as I got off the bike wanting to buy one but that brake position was so awkward?

    I love the design of the 2012 R1 (the slightly different front makes all the diference)...love or hate it no one can't say that isn't a different bike from the rest, it's a bold and non-conservative design! And of course there is that sound of the crossplane! but....is there any difference between the '09 and '12 bikes? Beyond the front and the TC. cheers

    Hi Michael, great video as always. My question: I'm 51 & have been riding since I was 17. Currently own a RSV4 & a 1290 Superduke. I've never intentionaly pulled a wheelie (although the front does occasionaly come up) & I've never had my knee down (never tried). Am I odd?

      Your RSV4 with APRC has wheelie control so is probably the best place to start given the ability to decide on the control level you like.
      I suspect that Michael would suggest working down from maximum control to off, when you are in control..

    Hi Michael, Do you think sports bike tyres will continue to evolve for much longer? I'm surprised that they still are as sports bikes themselves have finished evolving geometry wise. Pirelli, for example keeps upping the game, yet the bike manufacturers have slowed down or stopped even. If there's not enough money in new sports bikes then how come the tyres keep improving?

    Richard Cooper ran a R1 in supertock, said it was a POS. I remember Jack Valentine saying the engine wasn't as brilliant as the hype had us believe The 2cr in 2015 moved it up a whole new level and beyond.

    Neevesy, regarding your unenthusiastic opinion on your Speed Triple 1200 RR long termer, do you think dropping the front 15 or 20mm by sliding the forks up the triple clamp (similar to Yamaha did with the new MT-09) would improve its steering speed and feel to an acceptable level? Also, do you think making it less wristy by using adjustable clip-ons, something like the Apex 4" Riser clip-on set that's ajustable for height, angle and reach would make it bearable as a daily (possible fairing clearance issues nothwithstanding)? I have a short inseam so leg room is not an issue. I fancy myself a ST 1200 but can't stomach the non-electronic suspension nor that front end. The engine I like. Cheers.

      @@neevesybikes Cheers Neevesy, I put one in about whether generational racing style, body positions affect lap time or corner section times + entry/exit. It's most likely a product of better rubber, more power and electronics, but I wondered what actual time gains are achieved. Is it a fashion thing as well? what is gained and lost by more upright, upright knee down, hanging right off, elbow down etc.
      I wasn't sure if I'd commented in the right area.

    interesting that people find the 09 R1 ugly. in my eyes, the most beautiful R1 generation. the 04-08 ( i know 07-08 was different ) was the most iconic R1 generation of styling, but the 09 white with red frame was such a unique bike, while the other sportsbikes were pretty bland in comparison.

      have to agree with you, the first R1 crossplane is beautiful. And comfortable, relatively. The S1000RR was faster but so bland.

    Mr. Doodle is probably blind, because Kawasaki makes about the ugliest bikes on the market, while 2009 R1 is still a beautiful bike even (or especially) today… Btw. it wasn’t really a question to start with, MR Doodle just had the urge to spew his questionable opinion on bike design. And again Kawasaki? Really???😂😂😂
