@@akshayhazari6570 I have watched it and I agree that the show didn’t rlly show her well and misrepresented her. But she was still a bit adamant and rigid person which we can infer from her interactions in her dates
@@Random-mj5np Well she said she spent 9-10 hours on many of her dates in her interview. There is too much scope in such a long duration to misuse selective clips to show her bad. Like her yawning is perfectly explained.

My take on Aparna so far (based on the first four episodes):
In episode one, Aparna’s mom explains how they first got to the US when her daughters were very young, and she said, “please don’t ever let me down, and don’t let me look bad in our society/community.” This mentality is so unhealthy and terribly common among desi parents or at least the other NRI parents I’ve encountered. Luckily, neither I nor many of my friends/family have had to endure it to this degree. Her saying this to the camera makes me think this philosophy is something she really hammered into her daughters.
She follows up that sentence by saying she never wanted to see a B on their report cards and wanted at least three degrees. That amount of pressure put on young children is incredibly difficult and debilitating. Most of us are not unfamiliar with this, but I’m very thankful my parents never were so overt with this thinking. Being successful was more of an unspoken rule for us, whereas Aparna’s mom makes it seem like it was their mantra.
I’m sure the fact that she was raising the two girls on her own after a divorce, back in a time where it was not as common/acceptable must have been very difficult, and I empathize with her. I think whatever social shame she felt made her want to reinforce to her daughters that she would not stand for anymore. But I do think it affected Aparna negatively, in my unprofessional opinion.
Aparna’s done everything her mom has wanted; she has the degrees, and is a lawyer, so she wants someone to match her success. That alone is fine, but it seems like it’s motivated by the rule of not embarrassing her mom. It seems like her requirements are as rigid and unrelenting as her mom’s, which is why she doesn’t feel much of a spark with anyone. She’s set her standards so high that no one can really reach them.
Also, I think it makes sense that she travels so much since it could be an escape from the life she might not want. And from everything she’s said so far, she doesn’t really like many of the places she’s been. Her negative outlook matches that of her mother’s, where nothing is really good enough.
Aparna states how she doesn’t particularly like being a lawyer to Sheker, says how she’s been side-hustling for 10 years over her Skype date to find a way out of law, and even mentioned how she wanted to be a hairdresser when she was younger but decided she’d go to law school when she was 7. She even says her mom is probably happy she choose law, which makes me think Aparna only picked it to make her mom happy.
I see this a lot in my desi friends who are doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. who are miserable because they choose the path their parents wanted instead of the one they wanted. I think Aparna is just not happy in her current career situation, which has bled into all of the other aspects of her life. That, plus her mom’s philosophy, created this impenetrable wall that no one, not even Bheem and Raju, could get over.
All of this to say, I just feel bad for them both. In a way, they’re both victims of their circumstances and wish the show would give them (and pretty much everyone else) the option to see a therapist or provide some form of mental support.
For Aparna, how can someone find a good life partner if they don’t really know themselves? Aparna told Sheker that she never really took the time before law school to discover herself and “become a real person.” I hope by the end of the show, she gets that chance.
I didn’t mean to write an essay, but my inner unlicensed armchair psychologist couldn’t resist!

I really appreciate u giving umm a literally so good perspective to this.. It's smthng that I felt but wasnt able to define perfectly..I felt from the very start of it tht she has been thru a lot and has a pressure of smthng but u made it a lot more clear..Nice!!👏🏻
Watch the full season and the cast reunion video. You'll get a different perspective on her. Also, remember that the show is heavily edited. Of course, she's a difficult person, but she is maybe not as unidimensional as the show made her out to be.
The amount of love and care you feel for Nadia in season 1 = The amount of irritation you'll feel with Nadia in season 2.

Wait until Aparna actually grows on you. And not just the entertainment value that she's bringing, but genuinely as a person you realize she's not wrong. She's someone who is sure of what she wants, but the editors have done her bad. I watched her on the cast reunion video and got surprised on how many logical points she raised. She was like almost a different person in that as she was not edited to fit the narrative of where the show was going.
Oh please Aparna is toxic and her mom is responsible for it.
My fave parts are Steph's expressions whenever Aparna comes on.

I think the reason for her to become such an opposite would be because earlier she was fun, caring, open and what not! But a guy whom she goes with 7-8 times, bails on her 2 times back to back even when her friends were also there , can snap a person to the other end! Plus the pressure she took to herself that everyone around her is settling down with someone and she isn't!
I have not seen any episode on Netflix and this all comes from the bits which I have been seeing them react to! So cheers! 😅

Yeah, I agree...but strangely enough, I found both the seasons of Indian Matchmaking highly entertaining (in a cheap thrills way) but I just couldn't bear to complete this season of Bollywood Wives. I was prepared for the cringe but this season was so so beyond fake, I had to stop. Indian Matchmaking, though, continues to be my guilty pleasure.

Why not next episode
At times people exaggerate marriage or weddings. Off late I felt like it's better to be single rather then getting into so much of drama and fuss. If you are destined to get someone really wonderful then it will invariably happen. Just have faith in God and Let HIM decide is the best policy rather then cribbing and crying about not getting married. Like that's the end of all your struggles.
Nadia's that person who's all grown up on the outside, wants to get married settle down but she's basically a teenager on the inside. SPOILER 🚨
She gets swayed so easily and also by all red flags like girl you're no young to not think of good and bad choices. She cries for not finding a good guy to settle down with but then spoils it on her own. Shekhar my guy was the best catch but..... No more spoilers. He deserves better.

Hey Steph, Sometimes girls like to see his date flirting with someone, if the waitress gets impressed by the guy then that can be a turn on for the girl. Aparna liked him because the guy was being too sweet and silent which I think Aparna prefers. And Achara a lot of the times rich people have friends no matter how blunt and negative they are unless they have anxiety issues or are extremely introvert.
