I just don’t think Aparna *actually* wants to be married. She has friends. She’s got a good family. She’s financially well off. She loves to travel. That's because there's no money on youtube for a video longer than 8-15 min. You can thank the majority of content consumers with tik tok brain for that one, a real shame cause the real sweet spot for good content is 30-45 min in my opinion.
Most of the people on this show are incredibly successful and have achieved a lot. These sort of reality love shows seem to pick out those well-educated higher middle class types. Lots of doctors, lawyers, business owners, ect;. You might get a bartender or two in them, but most of the time even those oddball blue-collar workers have several achievements or otherwise have a very privileged background.

As an autistic woman myself I wonder if Aparna could be undiagnosed and on the spectrum. Black and white thinking, very blunt, inflexible, dislikes things with potential sensory overstimulation like beaches, seems to have problems putting herself in other people's shoes, the issues with comedy might stem from her struggling to 'get' jokes 🤔 Then again I've not finished the video and she may just be a judgemental hyperperfectionist 😅
I watched the show and completely agree. Especially as she seems to have a hard time fully picking up social cues- it’s hard to tell from this vid alone, but after watching the first season I came away with the impression that she really doesn’t mean to be rude, or realize how her words might come across to others.
I think Aparna was just overly criticized growing up (her mother is my educated guess, seeing how judgmental she was) so now that is her voice, internally and externally. I kind of pity her. Love your videos BTW. Never thought I would love watching such long videos. Please keep making such videos :)
Oh 100% agree. As someone with a very critical mother we either become very self critical or very critical of others. Either way it's a way to cope with deep levels of insecurity. I hope Aparna gets a good therapist and breaks the cycle before she passes it on to others.

Met my hus on a religious dating site. We were both divorced with young kids of the same ages. I wrote "your kids are adorable!" He wrote back, said he's not trying to date, just find people with kids to meet after leaving his abusive wife. Completely took the stress off of me. Getting together as another adult with kids instead of a date made it so chill. We went bowling, laughed our *sses off and made out like teenagers when the kids weren't looking. Married exactly 1 year after our first non-date date. Hang in there my single dudes... sometimes you have to go through utter hell and doom before the most perfect human for you enters the picture. I had a dear friend in college who was Indian and that wasn’t unique, but his parents arranging a marriage was. He was never uncomfortable about it. He wanted to do it. His brother’s marriage was arranged. His parents’ marriage was arranged. It was different because he was from a small town in West Texas, born there, very American - as American as possible. He loved Texas Tech football, he started an event called the Tour de Tech Terrace. Students would bike from house to house chugging beers for charity, but in this way, he was very traditionally Indian. Several of our friends travelled to India for his wedding. They were living in Austin. One day, my ex called me - which was strange, we weren’t really talking - and he told me that Bimal was lit on fire by his wife. She told him she was going to give him a massage, then doused him in gas and lit him on fire. I was in Austin at the time and I was right there. It happened in Austin. I went to see him in the hospital, he had third degree burns on 80% of his body. He was in a medical coma. I felt so bad for his family. They were so sweet and their baby son was a victim of this horrible crime. After a few months in the burn unit - he was sent to the burn unit in San Antonio bc they were the best, it is the burn unit where the US sends soldiers, so basically the best burn unit in the world - he died from an infection. There was an episode of Snapped about the girl… so, that’s my experience with arranged marriage. Shirya Patel lit my friend on fire and he died. RIP Bimal. You’re missed.

I know he was very “Americanized” which makes sense - he was born and raised in Texas, he was definitely a really fun guy. A lot of people internationally apparently seem to believe he was abusive - which is how she afforded a top notch defense. I guess you never REALLY know someone, but I just truly cannot imagine that. At all. He was like a quirky, funny guy. Also, she was only here for five days before she did it. I’ve really thought that she had it planned all along. She definitely had a good grasp of the legal system and her right to not speak to police without an attorney.. she tried to lock him in the bathroom after she lit him on fire, he kicked the door open. He was standing outside and an off-duty officer happened to see him burning. As he was calling for help, he saw her trying to casually leave and stopped her. I don’t think we’ll ever have an answer as to WHY she did it. Oh, and the defense was that she was “traditional and submissive” which is COMPLETELY batshit. I'm sorry about Bimal. He only ever saw the good side of arranged marriages. My grandfather's first wife killed herself and my great great aunt supposedly took care of her husband... I have only ever known arranged marriages to end in tragedy in both sides of my family.

I think that part of the show is just for the entertaining content. I've seen her do the same so often. Like she'll ask them to tell her what they look for appearance wise and then will immediately tell them that that stuff doesn't matter and to stop worrying about it. I'm assuming it's just how the episodes are edited and it's part of a longer conversation. We only see about 2-3 minutes of a conversation that probably lasts at least an hour. She flies all over the place to meet these people and get to learn them before matching them, so I think the show over-simplifies her process a bit. Chances are, she asks them the questions in the first few minutes, and then she tells them the 60% thing she always mentions in the last few minutes as part of her little closing speech, so we miss the bulk of the convo where Aunty Sima is probably learning that they characteristic that they act casual about in the edit is actually a way bigger deal to them in the conversation.
For how picky and stuck up Aparna seemed, she actually was really gracious during the actual date, is that just me? She didn't act stuck up towards the guy at all and seemed to appreciate the right things about him (he made everyone comfortable, he was open to meeting her family, etc)

Aparna is like the nerdy, career driven girl, pampered by her parents, who did not really become openminded and adaptable to people as she grew up. She has strong principles which is admirable tbh but is judgemental and picky and holds onto high standards for a partner. But hey that's just my opinion.
I have had the honor of managing multiple Indian weddings, some for 3 days. Honestly the best events ever. Some a quiet white praying ceremony, some parading down the street, most felt like a market with a temple in the center with couches and fire and awesomeness while everyone was conversing and walking around. Always with the most beautiful brides ever. Multiple meals. One, when they were done eating they just put the plates under the buffet. Best food ever.

As someone whose grandparents were also arranged I understand completely the impact that that has on you growing up. I feel a pressure to make my life the best I can to make all they went through worth it.
@@mcd08 there is so much trauma in my DNA that it impacts me to the core. I am healing generations And generations of women's pain. I am the first generation of any woman on that side to have ever had the freedom to marry who I wanted. Even my aunts had to have permission to marry who they married. My grandfather almost killed a man and worked a year on my grandfather's farm to win my grandmother's hand in marriage. It's not something that doesn't impact you especially when these are the people that raised you. Sadly to say it doesn't dictate me would mean I lost every single sense of who I am in the world. My dad's brother for instance drowned when he was 11 and my dad was three and my grandfather became an abusive even more abuse of alcoholic because he's the one that told them to go swimming and you can't even imagine the childhood my dad had. Which impacted the way he raised me. And the way he raised me was breaking a million cycles. When your culture has been trauma forever you can't deny its impact.
@@mcd08 I need my grandmother got beat by my great-grandmother when she found out she was getting married because she would be losing her caretaker as the other daughter had eloped. She didn't even want to get married she'll tell you right now that her husband provided for them and he worked very hard but she didn't love him and he was a very jealous man. But then he's also not a devil either It's so complicated because he was raised in a culture where women were just property. He grew up during world war II hiding in caves in Italy for about a year trying to survive with no help at like 8. And losing my uncle really just created the worst source of PTSD and if you look at every generation before like my great grandmother she has an absolutely awful horrifying story too. I am disabled for many reasons but a big portion is how I was raised and every generation of women before me who had to deal with unspeakable actions. My grandmother did not want to be married. She did not want to do marital things. There's no way I am here consensually even though her children and especially her grandchildren are absolutely everything that keeps her going at 89.
I met my now husband when I was 20, he was 27. I married him two years later. Leo’s line “love should free you” is 100% true. As a woman that really wants to pursue my dreams and career post college, this marriage doesn’t weigh me down, I’ve found my forever adventure buddy that wants to go the world and back beside me. I hope everyone can find a marriage as supportive and nurturing as mine because it’s so hard to hear about those that feel trapped :(

I remember watching this show with my sister when I was visiting her a few years back and completely forgot that it had even existed until you brought it back up as a half-brown man with a white mom, my mom doesn't care about my love life, which is bitter sweet because while that gives me one less expectation to live up to, I can never vent to her about loneliness or feeling isolated either because, again, she doesn't care, and will use that venting against me when she's mad at me I've got toxicity from both sides of the world lmao

As a Bengali, living here in Bangladesh, the whole idea that you have to use a matchmaker to arrange a marriage is a very archaic and outdated idea. In fact, most marriages that are arranged are done by family members, but most of the time, the person chosen are either a family friend or if their child has a partner already, they often meet with them to discuss how they should proceed. My own sister married the man she dated and of the few people I know who were married to someone through their parents, they're doing quite well for themselves, as far as I know. Of course, here, the host has some really archaic ideas and thoughts about people, their perception and who they are. Unfortunately, I can say with certainty that is the way that some people think. I don't know why but many expats living in abroad, often think that their child or they have to marry someone from their own country, usually at the behest of their parents. Also the fact that she calls her client/prospect list biodata is probably because rather than have a proper idea of said person, personality wise, she most definitely has their resume, its often called biodata here and in India, and yes, I do mean resume because your job and assumed salary often sways someone to let their daughter marry you.

They're located in the middle of deserts and are usually the remains of large bodies of water in places that got so hot and dry that all the water evaporated. Any remaining water is extremely salty to the point of being highly acidic and toxic, so almost nothing lives there except for certain types of invertebrates like shrimp and brine flies, with the occasional flamingo flock that comes to eat them. It's not exactly a luxury leisure destination.

This is actually the treatment of most mental disorders here. I know people with OCD/ADHD/etc but they just told to pray to god, or get over it cuz mental health is "just a gimmick."

i will say this.... I got heat exhaustion one day... i went to just lay down in my cold basement to try and just cool off, cause i didn't realize i had been in SUCH bad shape. It apparently evolved into heatstroke, and I fell unconscious, and woke up 12 hours later, unable to walk, unable to keep myself upright, or call for help. i couldn't find my phone either. I managed to drag myself across the floor only to collapse on the bottom step again, and my roommate found me and saved my life. So If he is saying he had heat exhaustion and could not get a hold of her, I do believe him, it is scary and dangerous.

I was like that too. It took me a long time for me to start being open minded to somethings. It's the environment she was brought up in. I grew up with an hyper critical mother who made me afraid of failure it made me be afraid to try new things and new people. I was comfortable with the things that felt familiar and made me feel safe. I can't imagine growing up in a divorces household untop of that. You'd be scared of love and not ending up with the wrong person.

I'm white, but a quarter black. I'm very white. 2 of my sisters are brown, and constantly have to argue about their heritage. My older sister is often mistaken as Hispanic and has had a number of her own racist encounters. My little sister is mistaken as indian. They both have to deal with a lot of prejudice, they aren't accepted in the black community, hispanic, afrolaninx, or white communities. They have however been very well accepted in our local lesbian scene.
Maybe they shouldnt use latinx as a reference point. It attempts to erase the language and culture of latinos. Id drop that label after you look into it.

As far as kids at a wedding goes, I’ve seen all sides of it. One wedding my siblings and I were told to play in the hallway outside the ceremony so as not to disrupt.. it was very boring as I recall lol. I was at another wedding where my siblings caused chaos and my brother annoyed the DJ all night.. that was embarrassing, especially when he thought it’d be cute to photobomb every single reception picture. My aunt was very unhappy, as you can imagine. And finally, my cousin got married and no kids were allowed. I was really sad about it and we felt so excluded… but I get it. I’m not sure how I’ll proceed when I get married. I guess it would depend. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel excluded, but I also won’t tolerate scenes either. 🤷♀️
I’m Dominican and we are considered afrolatinos. The Dominican Republic is in the Caribbean and was actually the first island on the Caribbean to be enslaved. Knowing this history and seeing my grandparents I identify as Afro-Latina. It’s really hard because people choose to see me as Hispanic and choose to ignore that I’m mixed because my grandparents on my fathers side are black. It’s weird to even have to explain yourself and your heritage like you’re trying to convince people you are who you say you are 😭. on a test they ask if you’re white black or a Pacific Islander. I’m not white I’m not a Pacific Islander I’m not black….??? I’m nothing I’m just a confused brown girl.
Can relate. I'm mixed race too; black and Portuguese. It sucked having people tell you what they think you are. Make it even more frustrating, in the U.S, Americans think Portuguese are Latino because the language to the average American sounds spanish to them. Completely ignoring that Portugal is in Europe. My Portuguese father was often labeled as hispanic despite his very Caucasian appearance. ALl because of his accent. It pissed him off. Then with me, if I mention I am half-Portuguese/black, they will either deny it to my face, try to quiz me about portuguese culture which is funny because they don't know it all, or mention my hair. My hair is thick curly only because my dad's hair is wavy and my mom has afro textured. They seem to think that if your hair is not long and wavy, there is no way you are half-black.. You gotta be full black. Completely ignoring my light tan skin, a combo of my dad's white skin and my mom's dark skin complexions.
Ayye, multiracial crew! I'm part Portuguese too, and growing up it was always confusing to me whether or not that's considered white in the US, because I think there are some stereotypes that make things really messy. I really feel you on how frustrating it is being mixed in America. I'm the kind of brown that no one can place. Lately it's been especially difficult trying to feel at ease with all of me because in the US, if you have any Black ancestry, you're just considered Black. The moment people learn I'm part African, that's all they see me as, even though that's the least part of my ancestry, it isn't the culture I was raised in, and I have not lived the Black American experience in any sense. It's not even that I reject that part of my ancestry; I just reject the oversimplification of my cultural identity. I'm just trying to be me, and it's such a bummer how people can get so mad about that. Totally feel you on this. My mom is from Dominica (the commonwealth, not the republic) and my dad is from Honduras. His first language was Spanish and he came to the U.S. as a kid. I also get quizzed on my ethnicity constantly because my last name is obviously Spanish and I’m a no sabo kid because my dad was scared that it would confuse me when I was learning English :/. V frustrating to have your very existence questioned constantly and have people tell you what you are and aren’t. I’ve literally had people tell me my mother’s island isn’t a real place.
My wife and I asked that kids not come to our wedding, primarily b/c we were having the reception at a fairly upscale restaurant and an afterparty at our house. And while we appreciated everyone that was able to get a sitter for the evening and join us, we certainly didnt hold it against anyone that wasnt able to or didnt feel comfortable doing so. We didnt hold it against them, and I'm pretty sure they didnt hold it against us. Tis all about communication.

Leo, man-to-man, I’ll tell you and anyone else reading this; you’ll be fine. You won’t “have” to resort to arranged marriage unless you actually want to. Wow! I will never understand how so many non-white people in white-majority countries are still SO OPENLY racist, as if it doesn't count...?
About kids at weddings: we had our families and friends kids there (ages 6 months to 18 years, so pretty much everything there LOL) and they made for some of the most beautiful memories. The littles ones all became super quick friends and the dynamics between the different age groups were so cool to watch. I think it’s up to the parents to decide if they want a night off or if their kids can handle it. If one of the kids would have cried during the ceremony I couldn’t have cared less. One of the smaller ones got bored and played on a wall closeby, made for some funny moments when he commented from afar. Didn’t take away from the romance and emotion for us in the slightest. We made sure there were some games available at the reception and had a quiet room set up where they could chill if it got to overwhelming throughout and the parents loved it. However - if a couple decides they don’t want that that’s absolutely fine, too. But they shouldn’t be mad if some people won’t be able to make it then. I think it all depends on the vibe!

To me it seems like she is on the autism spectrum. She actually does seem like a nice person if she gives you a chance to get to know her. Not the easiest to deal with. I think she has difficulties imagining how other see thing or how others feel.
As someone who was recently diagnosed as being on the autistic spec, it does make me see people differently now. I’m polish and arranged marriage isnt really a thing anymore but it was when my great grandparents were alive. So my grandma’s mom was forced to get married when she was F O U R T E E N (14!!!) it was so fucked up that even the priest himself visited her parents and said “hey guys its really fucked up, can you let her live a normal life for at least 2 more years?” but they didnt care and they just sent my great grandma to another household…… she then became pregnant at 15 and overall gave birth to 8 girls throughout her short life…. I really feel sorry for ppl in such situations

I gotta agree with this Sima Aunty lady that being TOO picky isn't good for finding a match. Sometimes an amazing person can be staring you in the face but you can't see them because you're too focused on rigid list of requirements that that person doesn't meet. That's how people stay single for a super long time. Often we don't value the most important qualities in someone but instead emphasize those "nice to have ones". The other extreme is bad too - just going with the flow and accepting anyone, then you can potentially waste time on people you'll have doubts about and probably it won't work out with.
Agreed. The most important thing is finding someone who treats you well, shares your essential values (like family/morals/gender roles), and has future goals that align with yours. Like you said, people emphasize those niche things that don't matter. I've seen many a person seek out this ideal 'gamer girl waifu' and get stuck with someone who shares their hobby and is very pretty, but is unsupportive of them, doesn't communicate well, has shady morals, and wants a completely different future than they want. Then they're mad and 'shocked' when this girl whose always said she doesn't want a family and wants to move away still wants those same things that after years in a relationship and maybe even marriage. If they share your hobbies and are super hot, awesome..but what's more important is finding a person who is supportive of your interests and treating them with the same respect in return. You certainly should have some common ground with interests and be attracted to them, but don't be so strict with specifics and be open to trying new things.

I just don’t think Aparna *actually* wants to be married. She has friends. She’s got a good family. She’s financially well off. She loves to travel. It feels more like cultural pressure to check off a box which she’s already checked off all the boxes for herself. I know women who are happily single. Most of the people on this show are incredibly successful and have achieved a lot. These sort of reality love shows seem to pick out those well-educated higher middle class types. Lots of doctors, lawyers, business owners, ect;. You might get a bartender or two in them, but most of the time even those oddball blue-collar workers have several achievements or otherwise have a very privileged background.

Black and white thinking, very blunt, inflexible, dislikes things with potential sensory overstimulation like beaches, seems to have problems putting herself in other people's shoes, the issues with comedy might stem from her struggling to 'get' jokes 🤔 Then again I've not finished the video and she may just be a judgemental hyperperfectionist 😅

I watched the show and completely agree. Especially as she seems to have a hard time fully picking up social cues- it’s hard to tell from this vid alone, but after watching the first season I came away with the impression that she really doesn’t mean to be rude, or realize how her words might come across to others.
To me she read as autistic a lot of things can read as rude whether it's just being surprised, because it conflicts with the world view
I think Aparna was just overly criticized growing up (her mother is my educated guess, seeing how judgmental she was) so now that is her voice, internally and externally. I kind of pity her. Oh 100% agree. As someone with a very critical mother we either become very self critical or very critical of others. Either way it's a way to cope with deep levels of insecurity. I hope Aparna gets a good therapist and breaks the cycle before she passes it on to others.

Met my hus on a religious dating site. We were both divorced with young kids of the same ages. I wrote "your kids are adorable!" He wrote back, said he's not trying to date, just find people with kids to meet after leaving his abusive wife. Completely took the stress off of me. Getting together as another adult with kids instead of a date made it so chill. We went bowling, laughed our *sses off and made out like teenagers when the kids weren't looking. I had a dear friend in college who was Indian and that wasn’t unique, but his parents arranging a marriage was. He was never uncomfortable about it. He wanted to do it. His brother’s marriage was arranged. His parents’ marriage was arranged. It was different because he was from a small town in West Texas, born there, very American - as American as possible. He loved Texas Tech football, he started an event called the Tour de Tech Terrace. Students would bike from house to house chugging beers for charity, but in this way, he was very traditionally Indian. Several of our friends travelled to India for his wedding. They were living in Austin. One day, my ex called me - which was strange, we weren’t really talking - and he told me that Bimal was lit on fire by his wife. She told him she was going to give him a massage, then doused him in gas and lit him on fire. I was in Austin at the time and I was right there. It happened in Austin. I went to see him in the hospital, he had third degree burns on 80% of his body. He was in a medical coma. I felt so bad for his family. They were so sweet and their baby son was a victim of this horrible crime. After a few months in the burn unit - he was sent to the burn unit in San Antonio bc they were the best, it is the burn unit where the US sends soldiers, so basically the best burn unit in the world - he died from an infection.
There was an episode of Snapped about the girl… so, that’s my experience with arranged marriage. Shirya Patel lit my friend on fire and he died. RIP Bimal. You’re missed.

@@KeiaradiseThat is the grand question. apparently she was already in love with someone else. While Bimal’s parents were pretty successful, she was expecting a lot more from him. I know he was very “Americanized” which makes sense - he was born and raised in Texas, he was definitely a really fun guy. A lot of people internationally apparently seem to believe he was abusive - which is how she afforded a top notch defense. I guess you never REALLY know someone, but I just truly cannot imagine that. At all. He was like a quirky, funny guy. Also, she was only here for five days before she did it. I’ve really thought that she had it planned all along. She definitely had a good grasp of the legal system and her right to not speak to police without an attorney.. she tried to lock him in the bathroom after she lit him on fire, he kicked the door open. He was standing outside and an off-duty officer happened to see him burning. As he was calling for help, he saw her trying to casually leave and stopped her.
I don’t think we’ll ever have an answer as to WHY she did it.
Oh, and the defense was that she was “traditional and submissive” which is COMPLETELY batshit. Like, I don’t really understand trad wives at all, but the fuck part of being traditional is lighting your husband on fire?

I think that part of the show is just for the entertaining content. I've seen her do the same so often. Like she'll ask them to tell her what they look for appearance wise and then will immediately tell them that that stuff doesn't matter and to stop worrying about it.
I'm assuming it's just how the episodes are edited and it's part of a longer conversation. We only see about 2-3 minutes of a conversation that probably lasts at least an hour. She flies all over the place to meet these people and get to learn them before matching them, so I think the show over-simplifies her process a bit. Chances are, she asks them the questions in the first few minutes, and then she tells them the 60% thing she always mentions in the last few minutes as part of her little closing speech, so we miss the bulk of the convo where Aunty Sima is probably learning that they characteristic that they act casual about in the edit is actually a way bigger deal to them in the conversation.

For how picky and stuck up Aparna seemed, she actually was really gracious during the actual date, is that just me? She didn't act stuck up towards the guy at all and seemed to appreciate the right things about him (he made everyone comfortable, he was open to meeting her family, etc)

Aparna is like the nerdy, career driven girl, pampered by her parents, who did not really become openminded and adaptable to people as she grew up. She has strong principles which is admirable tbh but is judgemental and picky and holds onto high standards for a partner. But hey that's just my opinion.
I have had the honor of managing multiple Indian weddings, some for 3 days. Honestly the best events ever. Some a quiet white praying ceremony, some parading down the street, most felt like a market with a temple in the center with couches and fire and awesomeness while everyone was conversing and walking around. Always with the most beautiful brides ever. Multiple meals. One, when they were done eating they just put the plates under the buffet. Best food ever.

@@mcd08 there is so much trauma in my DNA that it impacts me to the core. I am healing generations And generations of women's pain. I am the first generation of any woman on that side to have ever had the freedom to marry who I wanted. Even my aunts had to have permission to marry who they married. My grandfather almost killed a man and worked a year on my grandfather's farm to win my grandmother's hand in marriage. It's not something that doesn't impact you especially when these are the people that raised you. Sadly to say it doesn't dictate me would mean I lost every single sense of who I am in the world. My dad's brother for instance drowned when he was 11 and my dad was three and my grandfather became an abusive even more abuse of alcoholic because he's the one that told them to go swimming and you can't even imagine the childhood my dad had. Which impacted the way he raised me. And the way he raised me was breaking a million cycles. When your culture has been trauma forever you can't deny its impact.
@@mcd08 I need my grandmother got beat by my great-grandmother when she found out she was getting married because she would be losing her caretaker as the other daughter had eloped. She didn't even want to get married she'll tell you right now that her husband provided for them and he worked very hard but she didn't love him and he was a very jealous man. But then he's also not a devil either It's so complicated because he was raised in a culture where women were just property. He grew up during world war II hiding in caves in Italy for about a year trying to survive with no help at like 8. And losing my uncle really just created the worst source of PTSD and if you look at every generation before like my great grandmother she has an absolutely awful horrifying story too. I am disabled for many reasons but a big portion is how I was raised and every generation of women before me who had to deal with unspeakable actions. My grandmother did not want to be married. She did not want to do marital things. There's no way I am here consensually even though her children and especially her grandchildren are absolutely everything that keeps her going at 89.
I met my now husband when I was 20, he was 27. I married him two years later. Leo’s line “love should free you” is 100% true. As a woman that really wants to pursue my dreams and career post college, this marriage doesn’t weigh me down, I’ve found my forever adventure buddy that wants to go the world and back beside me. I hope everyone can find a marriage as supportive and nurturing as mine because it’s so hard to hear about those that feel trapped :(

As a Bengali, living here in Bangladesh, the whole idea that you have to use a matchmaker to arrange a marriage is a very archaic and outdated idea. In fact, most marriages that are arranged are done by family members, but most of the time, the person chosen are either a family friend or if their child has a partner already, they often meet with them to discuss how they should proceed.
My own sister married the man she dated and of the few people I know who were married to someone through their parents, they're doing quite well for themselves, as far as I know. Of course, here, the host has some really archaic ideas and thoughts about people, their perception and who they are. Unfortunately, I can say with certainty that is the way that some people think. I don't know why but many expats living in abroad, often think that their child or they have to marry someone from their own country, usually at the behest of their parents.
Also the fact that she calls her client/prospect list biodata is probably because rather than have a proper idea of said person, personality wise, she most definitely has their resume, its often called biodata here and in India, and yes, I do mean resume because your job and assumed salary often sways someone to let their daughter marry you.

They're located in the middle of deserts and are usually the remains of large bodies of water in places that got so hot and dry that all the water evaporated. Any remaining water is extremely salty to the point of being highly acidic and toxic, so almost nothing lives there except for certain types of invertebrates like shrimp and brine flies, with the occasional flamingo flock that comes to eat them. It's not exactly a luxury leisure destination.

i will say this.... I got heat exhaustion one day... i went to just lay down in my cold basement to try and just cool off, cause i didn't realize i had been in SUCH bad shape. It apparently evolved into heatstroke, and I fell unconscious, and woke up 12 hours later, unable to walk, unable to keep myself upright, or call for help. i couldn't find my phone either. I managed to drag myself across the floor only to collapse on the bottom step again, and my roommate found me and saved my life. So If he is saying he had heat exhaustion and could not get a hold of her, I do believe him, it is scary and dangerous.

I grew up with an hyper critical mother who made me afraid of failure it made me be afraid to try new things and new people. I was comfortable with the things that felt familiar and made me feel safe. I can't imagine growing up in a divorces household untop of that. You'd be scared of love and not ending up with the wrong person.

I found Jewish Matchmaking more entertaining and educational. I’m not Jewish religious wise but I have friends who are and my masters degree in world religions. I hope it gets a second season.

I'm white, but a quarter black. I'm very white. 2 of my sisters are brown, and constantly have to argue about their heritage. My older sister is often mistaken as Hispanic and has had a number of her own racist encounters. My little sister is mistaken as indian. They both have to deal with a lot of prejudice, they aren't accepted in the black community, hispanic, afrolaninx, or white communities. They have however been very well accepted in our local lesbian scene.
Maybe they shouldnt use latinx as a reference point. It attempts to erase the language and culture of latinos. Id drop that label after you look into it.

As far as kids at a wedding goes, I’ve seen all sides of it. One wedding my siblings and I were told to play in the hallway outside the ceremony so as not to disrupt.. it was very boring as I recall lol. I was at another wedding where my siblings caused chaos and my brother annoyed the DJ all night.. that was embarrassing, especially when he thought it’d be cute to photobomb every single reception picture. My aunt was very unhappy, as you can imagine. And finally, my cousin got married and no kids were allowed. I was really sad about it and we felt so excluded… but I get it.
I’m not sure how I’ll proceed when I get married. I guess it would depend. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel excluded, but I also won’t tolerate scenes either. 🤷♀️

I’m Dominican and we are considered afrolatinos. The Dominican Republic is in the Caribbean and was actually the first island on the Caribbean to be enslaved. Knowing this history and seeing my grandparents I identify as Afro-Latina. It’s really hard because people choose to see me as Hispanic and choose to ignore that I’m mixed because my grandparents on my fathers side are black. It’s weird to even have to explain yourself and your heritage like you’re trying to convince people you are who you say you are 😭. on a test they ask if you’re white black or a Pacific Islander. I’m not white I’m not a Pacific Islander I’m not black….??? I’m nothing I’m just a confused brown girl.
Can relate. I'm mixed race too; black and Portuguese. It sucked having people tell you what they think you are. Make it even more frustrating, in the U.S, Americans think Portuguese are Latino because the language to the average American sounds spanish to them. Completely ignoring that Portugal is in Europe. My Portuguese father was often labeled as hispanic despite his very Caucasian appearance. ALl because of his accent. It pissed him off. Then with me, if I mention I am half-Portuguese/black, they will either deny it to my face, try to quiz me about portuguese culture which is funny because they don't know it all, or mention my hair. My hair is thick curly only because my dad's hair is wavy and my mom has afro textured. They seem to think that if your hair is not long and wavy, there is no way you are half-black.. You gotta be full black. Completely ignoring my light tan skin, a combo of my dad's white skin and my mom's dark skin complexions.
Ayye, multiracial crew! I'm part Portuguese too, and growing up it was always confusing to me whether or not that's considered white in the US, because I think there are some stereotypes that make things really messy.
I really feel you on how frustrating it is being mixed in America. I'm the kind of brown that no one can place. Lately it's been especially difficult trying to feel at ease with all of me because in the US, if you have any Black ancestry, you're just considered Black. The moment people learn I'm part African, that's all they see me as, even though that's the least part of my ancestry, it isn't the culture I was raised in, and I have not lived the Black American experience in any sense. It's not even that I reject that part of my ancestry; I just reject the oversimplification of my cultural identity. I'm just trying to be me, and it's such a bummer how people can get so mad about that.

Totally feel you on this. My mom is from Dominica (the commonwealth, not the republic) and my dad is from Honduras. His first language was Spanish and he came to the U.S. as a kid. I also get quizzed on my ethnicity constantly because my last name is obviously Spanish and I’m a no sabo kid because my dad was scared that it would confuse me when I was learning English :/. V frustrating to have your very existence questioned constantly and have people tell you what you are and aren’t. I’ve literally had people tell me my mother’s island isn’t a real place.
I have a Mexican friend who checks other and puts American. He says the only Mexican thing about him is how he cooks.

We didnt hold it against them, and I'm pretty sure they didnt hold it against us. Tis all about communication.

Wow! I will never understand how so many non-white people in white-majority countries are still SO OPENLY racist, as if it doesn't count...?
About kids at weddings: we had our families and friends kids there (ages 6 months to 18 years, so pretty much everything there LOL) and they made for some of the most beautiful memories. The littles ones all became super quick friends and the dynamics between the different age groups were so cool to watch. I think it’s up to the parents to decide if they want a night off or if their kids can handle it. If one of the kids would have cried during the ceremony I couldn’t have cared less. One of the smaller ones got bored and played on a wall closeby, made for some funny moments when he commented from afar. Didn’t take away from the romance and emotion for us in the slightest. We made sure there were some games available at the reception and had a quiet room set up where they could chill if it got to overwhelming throughout and the parents loved it. However - if a couple decides they don’t want that that’s absolutely fine, too. But they shouldn’t be mad if some people won’t be able to make it then. I think it all depends on the vibe!

To me it seems like she is on the autism spectrum. She actually does seem like a nice person if she gives you a chance to get to know her. Not the easiest to deal with. I think she has difficulties imagining how other see thing or how others feel.
As someone who was recently diagnosed as being on the autistic spec, it does make me see people differently now. I also have this constant internal panic/fear that, I may also come across as stuck up/judgemental, or that I talk too much or interrupt someone's train of thought. The struggle is real 😂😅

I’m polish and arranged marriage isnt really a thing anymore but it was when my great grandparents were alive. So my grandma’s mom was forced to get married when she was F O U R T E E N (14!!!) it was so fucked up that even the priest himself visited her parents and said “hey guys its really fucked up, can you let her live a normal life for at least 2 more years?” but they didnt care and they just sent my great grandma to another household…… she then became pregnant at 15 and overall gave birth to 8 girls throughout her short life…. I really feel sorry for ppl in such situations

I gotta agree with this Sima Aunty lady that being TOO picky isn't good for finding a match. Sometimes an amazing person can be staring you in the face but you can't see them because you're too focused on rigid list of requirements that that person doesn't meet. That's how people stay single for a super long time. Often we don't value the most important qualities in someone but instead emphasize those "nice to have ones". The other extreme is bad too - just going with the flow and accepting anyone, then you can potentially waste time on people you'll have doubts about and probably it won't work out with.
Agreed. The most important thing is finding someone who treats you well, shares your essential values (like family/morals/gender roles), and has future goals that align with yours. Like you said, people emphasize those niche things that don't matter. I've seen many a person seek out this ideal 'gamer girl waifu' and get stuck with someone who shares their hobby and is very pretty, but is unsupportive of them, doesn't communicate well, has shady morals, and wants a completely different future than they want. Then they're mad and 'shocked' when this girl whose always said she doesn't want a family and wants to move away still wants those same things that after years in a relationship and maybe even marriage.
If they share your hobbies and are super hot, awesome..but what's more important is finding a person who is supportive of your interests and treating them with the same respect in return. You certainly should have some common ground with interests and be attracted to them, but don't be so strict with specifics and be open to trying new things.
