Zach Gray you could argue that Valdi is one of the leading exponents of the last real generation of the traditional individualistic South American style, less the "anti-futebol" of the Rioplatense teams from the 60s on and more the "great teams made by combining great individuals" style that historically differentiated the Latin American teams from the more direct European styles (both the stifling catenaccio prevalent in Italy, the kick-and-rush of northern Europe, and the hybrid styles of Spain and the Netherlands) where individualism is often subjugated to pragmatism. Cristiano has grown up playing European football, albeit the more space-and-time Iberian style, and then honed his craft in the more physical English game before moving to Spain where he's grown even more; Messi started off in Rioplatense football and then has spent his whole career in Europe; both are insanely gifted players but who have grown in a generation of football where professionalism is at an all time high; as a result they have grown to be better players than their precursors, but the modern game often lacks some of the joie de vivre of the old jogo bonito of Brazil and those mercurial Colombians and Mexicans of the time. What killed them in 90 was Valderrama though. He would use too many touches as seemed incapable of moving quickly. So the teams playing against them all got back into defensive positions while Carlos was busy doing tricks on the midfield, and then when he finally got rid of the ball they faced a fully balanced defense. It's just bad football, no matter how impressive it looks in youtube videos.

I’ve great fortune to watch him play live. The ball is stuck to his feet! It’s very very difficult to take the ball away from him. Such a great short passer of the ball. Pure central midfielder. He doesn’t have pace, but his ball control, shielding and passing is out of this world. Thank you sir.
This man was the best assister of the ball I have ever seen. Extremely high offensive football IQ. He knew how to spring attackers and served them easy goals. Just knew when to stick the dagger on teams. And while a lot of players who lack pace get critcized, he didn't run as much but he was strong with the ball, very hard to take it away from and he made the ball go wherever the hell he wanted. He could elevate it and put it right in front of attackers, or thread the needle through defenders and leave an attacker with the ball at his feet to barely tap in. He was one of a kind. Closest players I have seen to his style are Xavi Hernandez and Andrea Pirlo.

when i was a kid ,colombia was my favourite team, .. in the 9 0' s was the best : higuita,valderrama,rincon,higuaran,asprilla...that team won 5 0 vs argentina ,in argentina
What killed them in 90 was Valderrama though. He would use too many touches as seemed incapable of moving quickly. So the teams playing against them all got back into defensive positions while Carlos was busy doing tricks on the midfield, and then when he finally got rid of the ball they faced a fully balanced defense. It's just bad football, no matter how impressive it looks in youtube videos.
me too
Also in 1994 WC they were considered as favorites to win the cup,but unfortunately were eliminated in group stages. Boy the defeat of Argentina in Bunos Aires was monumental for many reasons.
@@politicallycorrectredskin796 in those days there was no coaching, it was just pure talent. These guys just trained without being tactical, it was the talent on the ball that got them through games
Fishslap 33 Valderrama is a free roam type that suit the Tiki Taka while that era is the era of English Long ball which is too fast for him
Nooooo. Se vale soñar😅🎉. Dupla Messi/Valderrama 💨 me muero
Grande y eterno el Pibe Valderrama!! Respeto total desde Chile!!!
He was something else this guy. The way he strolled threw games and always looked one step ahead of everyone. Just brilliant
EL PIBE ESTÁ EN EL TOP 5 DE LOS MEJORES DE LA HISTORIA... CUANTO TALENTO!. QUÉ PRESENCIA! UN ÍCONO, UN DISTINTO. CALIDAD PURA. LO ADMIRAMOS MUCHO EN ARGENTINA
Nada que ver que top 5 ni top 5
El top 5 es:
Pelé
Maradona
Messi
Di stefano
Ronaldo Nazario

Maradroga

Ronaldo.

Valderrama é o melhor , the best , sou brasileiro e sou fã do futebol colombiano e argentino , show!
Grande Pibe Valderrama
Saludos desde Nicaragua
This calming yet funky playing style haven't been repeated again. Maybe nevermore
Riquelme
I'm not sure if Riquelme is funky enough, although I really admire him
Yap! This was football.... and Valderrama one of the best creators that I've ever seen...
Greetings from Arg (and thank you Pibe!)
I'm from Fiji 🇫🇯 did I just witnessed 1000 assist from this man . Goat 🐐 10
Jogador clássico e inteligente, dava gosto assistir futebol antigamente !!!
Notice how he doesn’t dive when he’s touched like the sissies that play today
neymar *cough*
exaaaaaaaaaaaactly
Whisker Whippers ™️ pussies, that's exactly what players today are. Most of them at least.
That's an absolute truth. Those football times were for real warriors.
Whisker Whippers ™️ futbol was way more humble back then but know it’s more or less keep your self safe and play smart ig
The goal at 4.25 is class. You can tell that he's convinced the goalkeeper he's going to absolutely smash it & then doesn't. What a clever player!
Jaja
Tamara Cubides Real 😳
Kevin de Bruyne tiene esas cualidades
Tamara Cubides laudrop
Pure 10.Lucky in my life that I have seen him playing.Such players are missing nowadays. The way he moved and touched the ball, the way he passed the ball ,the way he dribbled you want to have 100 eyes to watch.
Oh my god I used to control the Fotball on my chest and saying I did like valderrano he was most controllable footballer I ever seen he is unforgettable
G*
In my personal opinion, Valderma is the greatest midfield player in football history. This is my opinion and you should respect my friend🙂❤️
Met him at Bogotá airport asked for a picture as I put my hand on his shoulder he was hard as nails!!
Legend
typical 90’s fantasista
1:55 we already know where dinho learn it from
Esos pases 😍😍 ese man era un visionario
i was a kid when i saw Valderrama for the very first time at world cup 19990, I was hypnotized by the colours of the kits, his hair and his skills. I always support Colombia since that day
Greetings from Portugal
He played with a vision of the game that any player wanna get these days.
All football highlights should have this type of music. One of my idols playing to some great music. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Call me old or bitter or whatever either way I'm only 24, but James Rodríguez is good, but will never be better than El Pibe.
Nice here .
Lets see 🤔🤔
They’re both more style than substance anyway. Valderrama never did anything in Europe. He was fun to watch but statistically didn’t really produce. James won titles with Real Madrid riding the bench. Both talented but they lack the discipline to be considered truly great
@@elrifle24 he never did anything in europe, because his style was misunderstood by the coaches that had him. Colombia was playing tiki-taka style football in the 90's and Valderrama was a master of this style....He would have been a brilliant fit in modern Barza's
Every player is different. Different skills and styles. Stop comparing my country’s soccer players
Wonderful playmaker who possesses good skill to keep the ball and excellent timing to release it to opponents' occasionally unexpected location.
He knew every inch and possibility in the soccer field. A legend.
TOTAL
what a unique style of dribbling... just teasing all d players'😎😎. thkzz for d video Barbosa
Thank you!
