🇬🇧 Farming & Food Security CRISIS Due To Brexit &
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 พ.ค. 2024
- This week the new NFU President, Tom Bradshaw, has warned that a perfect storm of #Brexit and #climatechange weather events will lead to a significant drop in food production by British farmers this year and risks fuelling inflation.
The new Brexit checks for imports also fuels inflation and also mean that less food will be coming from Europe.
Tom Bradshaw NFU president said:
“Nobody has got the Brexit we were promised. Nobody really knew what we were going to get. But what has happened since Brexit is the landscape has massively changed. None of us thought we would be dealing with the input crisis that we have done, the huge volatility from the war in Ukraine, potentially the Middle East as well.”
🆘 This government failed to change course on a post-Brexit food security plan despite these global headwinds!
“Simply believing that we can import our way out of this problem I think is naive at best and foolish at worst… we need a long-term plan for how we feed 70 million people living on an island.”

Thanks for your efforts to save British farms, Liz. In the USA, we have historically made bad decisions and I don’t want to see American animal products in the UK.
I’ve always said that if there was a real drive to ensure more climate friendly agriculture, we should’ve been exporting U.K. farming methods. But greedy corporations are so good at harnessing arguments for environmentalism to deliver the polar opposite.
I so completely understand the problems and hardships British farmers are facing. but most of them voted for Brexit. No matter how crap the Brexit deals was and how crap the current government is: What did they expect when they left the market they sold most of their products to and what did they expect when they left the Union where almost 100% of their farmworkers and harvest helpers came from?
EU hostile aggression ruined a fair, free trade deal.
Actually farming votes for Brexit were lower than average given most farmers are older males.
@@PollieBrooon-cz5ygThe UK had a really good fair free trade deal when it was in the EU .
The UK chose to leave the EU and be dealt with as any other third country would .
Do you want to be in the EU or not in the EU ?
You voted for this. I don’t understand why you weren’t prepared for the consequences. Your neo-liberal nanny state has created an island of children.
Liz broke open the BLAME CORBYN emergency glass again !
Farmer, fishermen and other business got taken in a by an aristrocratic psyop
To heal, Liz and tabloids will have to move away from denial and take personal responsibility for your vandalism to the country
Liz, well done and well presented. Joining the EU is out of the UK's hands and many in the EU do not agree for the UK to join again, after all those insults that were thrown at us in the EU and especially Germany, (just 1 example, vote leave campaign's poster, "We did not win 2 world wars and a Soccer match to be ruled by a Kraut!". The UK needs to work a lot harder to be "ever" considered acceptable to join the EU, and, will have to accept it's more then just economics. But you can always join the US as a Colony or the 51st state. May God save the UK.
Joining the USA is also not in the hands of the UK...
There is a group of people in the UK who feel strongly that the country should work towards applying to join the EU. It's quite a small group at the moment, nowhere near enough for anything to happen about it.
If the UK was to reform itself then potentially the country could be more suitable to be a member. But the required reforms seem unlikely.
@@Purple_flower09 agreed.
@@ab-ym3bf correct, but maybe easier.
Time for planting turnips 😂😂
Where are the Farmers fields with big signs saying “ we screwed up when we told you the best thing was to leave the EU” as there were on many farms here back in 2016🤔🤪😡
under water.
Oh. They’d never admit they are complete idiots.
How millions of people in the uk thought it would be a great idea to cut yourselves off from a massive market on your doorstep that you are completely reliant on for half your food supplies demonstrates just how idiotic the average British electorate has become..i am already noticing empty shelves in supermarket's its disturbing to consider how much worse this could become..and this is without even considering the increased cost of supply to the 80 percent of medications that we need to import..
Free trade only.....not political and federal union with the EU tyranny! What empty shelves....there aren't any!
@@PollieBrooon-cz5yg _Free trade only_ The EEC and later EU was never about 'free trade only', the 1957 Treaty of Rome already spoke of 'an ever closer union between the peoples of Europe' and this was widely known by all UK politicians, it was widely reported on within the UK. Should have paid more attention instead of parroting hollow rhetoric.
@@maartenaalsmeer Completely wrong....Heath jolly well kept quiet on the expansionist intention of the TOR, that part was always hushed up...because he knew that Brits would never accept it....never vote for it...that's why it was always badged up as a common market...free trade club...effectively a trojan horse into EU and ever closer union.
Not the British electorate. The electorate in Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU and were dragged out by England and Wales.
The truth is 27% of the population voted yes in a poll, marginally more than those who said no. But the overall majority didn’t vote for Brexit and the referendum itself was advisory so actually made no decision. The decision to trigger negotiations to leave was made by the PM despite the Supreme Court ruling she couldn’t do that. And it was all confirmed when 43% gave Johnson a majority thanks to the right wing press terrified the country with Corbyn fear, painting Labour as a danger when it was really Boris.
Uk only country with food shortages where the people are obese.
Good idea to put fat people on 1000 cal diet
We have poor food quality.
@@nicks4934 no uk people make poor choices I eat uk food I’m not obese as I know how to cook
@@nicks4934 you got your food from the eu before Brexit you were still obese so no excuse.
There are obese people all over the world and nothing to do with food shortages or security. Just another silly, irrelevant comment.
It’s inevitable. Brexit, and better farming techniques around the world, are ending farming in England.
British farmers should be force fed Australian meat.
I heard a recent report thet 3/4 of British farmers will go bust by the end of the year, what a great shame, we need to rejoin the single market and customs union before this country it totally ruined
Farmers going broke ,will enable wealthy to buy land very cheap,
You know the response by now don't you: there is no joining the SM and CU option for 3rd country UK, not before the end of this year, the next or the next decades.
And the country will not be ruined, just decimated to size.
@@ab-ym3bf There is no reason we cannot become an EEA member
@@JOOLZNED yes there is.
EEA members are either member of the EU (automatic EEA membership) or Efta (EEA member on request). You know by now that efta already said no to the UK, and the EU will not do Swiss type deals.
So no.
See you in 45 years.
As a sovereign country, you have to carry out all checks yourself. Being sovereign means you can't trust anyone. That's a disavantage to a group of states that trust each others.
Ouch 🤕 that's gotta hurt 😎
Until the disastrous Tory Brexit is fully reversed the UK will go hungry.

Send all Brexit financiers and politicians to prison (hard labour)
You forgot to mention The Labour Leave Group and the 35-40% of Scots.
Did you vote for Brexit, Liz? We were told that UK farmers and fishermen voted for Brexit, most likely for everything Farage promised they would receive in return for their vote.

Unelected Brown did not go early in 2009....because of his big recession.
When all the small business have gone broke, the big operators will move in and they will set price of goods. They won't compete with each-other. They could also take over the small business's markets as a niche.
That's been the Tory agenda ever since Thatcher sold everything on the cheap because they didn't belong to friends of the Tories.
D long term plan
I agree , I can see us sleepwalking into more empty supermarket shelves as we've seen in the past .
I also agree that brexit is to blame for a lot of our current woes .
Not least of which is treasury coffers being very much down on pre brexit levels which in turn means less spending money .
Never ever again with the Tories .
Brexit, the only occasion in history when both leaders did what the people wanted. When you want lower interest rates, they ignore you.
Brexit is Laissez Faire. You’re on your own chaps. Best of luck with your efforts Liz.
Bankrupt farmers, buy out land cheaper, import GMO hormon treated food. Cash in 😂
I keep banging on about the opposition because their stance seems strange. Let's assume the 2024 harvest will be poor and that EU suppliers find it easier to supply the home market rather than shipping to the UK. Well what will Labour be blaming shortages on? At best they might say it's the wrong kind of brexit, but they still won't be able to build bridges in time to provide the necessary food and they will be the ones getting the blame in the right wing media and amongst the UK people. Labour need to climb away from their stance on brexit so that they can legitimately blame the Tories.
Quite difficult now the Media can't blame the EU anymore; although they still try
When, just when will the people who wanted this brexit get over therevstupid pride and say sorry, I got it wrong . Dont seem to be any shortage of alcohol and crisps, , you pay more for less, when you realise that the cost of food is so much higher. Will the prices ever come down ,NO, dont expect that.
The other point that is not being taken into account is.... Will the EU want the UK in any form , Back? After all the EU has 27 countries in it with a further 3 waiting to join.
No
and people STILL vote tory???????/?/???/
keep telling them, that no PM or party can do anything to get the economy up and running well without getting back into the EU
Much love and appreciation from Ireland 🇮🇪💚☘️🌈 Great content again.

Why is the checks 7am til 7pm? Why not 24/7?
It would cost too much to check all loads 24/7
Because the Brits are too lazy to work at night or maybe it’s the 8 months of ‘holidays.’
Borders elsewhere in the world are always 24/7 if you don’t check lorries for a 12 hour period everyday what’s the point. Amateur hour in UK
Florist probably voted for Brexit given her reaction to the question.
he needs time to get his father in law a great deal in india trade negotiotions!!!!
Great 👍 lovely thx to the voters

Starmer can promise a lot, but the majority of the European Parliament has already voted against a vetenary agreement, so don't hope for it
My understanding is that the EU Parliament doesn't get to vote on legislation until after it's been drawn up and successfully presented to the EU Council. Can you provide a reference?
The EU is not going to renegotiate every time the UK finally understands a Brexit consequence
@@lellyparkerSo that is essentially the same as in every govt? Or does the House of Commons just conjures up legislation out of thin air?
@@vullings1968 I am not questioning the process of government.
@@lellyparkerThis is a multi-stage process where a framework for a law is set from the minimum (smallest denominator) to the maximum requirement. The individual EU MPs are in close contact with their own government, which reviews the new EU law. There may be other possible solutions.
The respective countries then give their OK if the framework is OK for them. To achieve this, one country or another often has to make a compromise. GB was often uncompromising with veto and when she did, she wanted another raisin for herself!
Then it goes to EU MPs and commissioners who then get the whole thing up and running and implement the law. First of all, it is important that it gets up and running and later further changes can be made based on the experiences from the EU countries.
One of the hottest topics in the EU was financial deregulation, which GB wanted for London banks. There was a lot of noise there. That was exactly the reason for BREXIT!
Even after the GB was out of the EU and wanted a sectoral agreement MAY, which was briefly sunk by the EU! The bank lobby is still trying to achieve something. Nothing at all will come from the EU, on the contrary! For the sake of thwarting EU bank relegations, from regulating the UK's dodgy banking system. The Tories were more that willing to offer both the farming, fishing industries and the country generally, And that willingness still exists. And Labour? well Starmer is going to make brexit work; as though brexit isn't working already!!

No problem with supply of food and medicines etc where I live 450 kilo calves making £1200 to £1400 at market etc and it’s a brexit area there are lots of farms to be bought in eu countries so why not make a move
So whatever happened to ''empty shelves, petrol panic, lorry driver shortages, Dover chaos''.... 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 apparently....DUE TO BREXIT? 🤣🤣🤣 oh dear Liz! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Never was a crisis, only Remain hysteria!
Yes, we had empty shelves for many reasons and we will have them again, Brexit has left instability of supply, not very funny and no need for silly laughing faces.
In October 2021, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) was estimating a shortage of more than 100,000 qualified drivers in the UK. According to the RHA, as many as 60,000 UK HGV drivers are from EU member states. Brexit put new rules in place for anyone who wants to come to the UK to work. While these rules didn’t outright ban non-UK drivers from working in the UK, a period of adjustment to the new system, along with other complications in recruiting HGV drivers from EU member states, would have contributed to the driver shortage.
Fuel shortage? Apparently due to Brexit, Well yes, the shortages occurred mainly from panic buying. Dover chaos? Yes what do you expect with customs checks which still are causing problems.
The only hysteria seems to be you ad your silly laughing faces, the truth is much easier to understand.
