    How has dry bagging your spawn been working out for you? You're just putting the water and millet into a bag and steaming it all together right? There isn't any excess water or anything afterwards?

    Hey Eric. What was the reason for the top bags being sealed and the rest not? Is this due to them being closer to the vent and therefore more prone to contamination during cooldown?

    • @steelersrock300
      @steelersrock300 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the top bags are grain spawn which needs to be more properly sterilized because the mycelium will be just starting off in the grain. the rest are bulk substrate and itsmore convenient to leave them unsealed as inoculated grain will be added into the bags in a more mature state.

    Just to verify for this sterilization process, you need to seal the bags before the sterilization process,since not under pressure and easier for contams to get in? Also have you experienced bags pop with this method?

    • @raulduke3237
      @raulduke3237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is 20 hours necessary? I'm thinking so because it's a vent to atmosphere and not a low pressure...1-2 psi sterillizer. Have you tried running after the warm up at 12hours or less?

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its because its low wattage, it takes 12 hours just to get to temp. only 2000w heating 400 lbs.

    • @semtexzorz9453
      @semtexzorz9453 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Myers Mushrooms 12hrs to reach temp and then 8hr sterilisation? I guess that's not too bad for eliminating pressure and the worries that come with..

    Is it possible to sterilize grain spawn in jars in one of these barrel steamers?

    • @MyersMushroomsFarms
      @MyersMushroomsFarms 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes i have seen jars ran in these drums. The cycle time would be shorter too since the jars heat up quicker and its less total weight in there.

    Rather than goes through all this trouble and money on sterilization machines and so forth has anyone ever attempted to cold water lime pasteurize sawdust/soybean hull substrate for spawn? Would love to hear if anyone has ever tried this. I seriously think it would work, probably would just need to let it sit longer in the lime water than straw. Let me know please if anyone has tried this.
