Getting long flights is something I struggle with as well. Light weight models and long rubber motors seem to be important. However, where i fly, a long flight usually means I will not be able to get the model back because it's in a tree!
Ah i see I am still trying to learn about the whole rubber powered concept because some rubber bands unwind too quickly leading to a stall.I am still trying to perfect my plane.
Can you please give me some advices? I am in Highschool now and we are going to have a competition next week but most of us dont know much about those :((
Thanks!. The original rubber in the kit was a double loop of 1/16 rubber. I kept that for my smaller models. I coundnt see how the model would fly with that. It's quite heavy so I swapped it for a single loop of 3/16. I don't think the model is properly trimmed yet and I am sure I can put on lots more turns. But the trees are very close!
@@MouseSquadron I have not had much luck with these bigger models. I traced the problem to the prop.. the pitch at the tip is almost zero, even negative in some cases. There is a smaller model with a 5 inch prop that, by contrast, flies like a dream, especially after you've discarded the plastic bits (other than the prop and hanger of course) and cut the weight in half. The foam is even CA safe (though I use a glue from Daiso). Best of all 1/16" Tan SS seems to be a perfect match.. maybe 3/32" for a faster climb outdoors. See the video I linked to in the comments.
