Reminds me of the movie "Sideways" when Jack (the uninformed sidekick) says to Miles during the wine tasting, "Yeah...getting the strawberries...not the Edam cheese." Lauders--if you can find it in VA--is only sold in the 1.75 plastic for $22. Never had it though. Hard to find here.
I had an interesting experience with the Red Label- brand new bottle, I had a few glasses and really disliked it, there was a particular taste & smell I found off-putting so I let the 3/4 full bottle sit in the liquor cabinet for about 2 months. Re-opened it last week and the taste was substantially different, it had mellowed quite a bit compared to the new bottle, it was perfectly palatable. Still not my favorite, but the new bottle was about a 2/10 and after sitting it was at least a 5/10 imo. I've noticed this change with many other bottles as well.
My goodness our palates are different. Teacher's has beat JW Red every time I've tried them side by side. I have Teacher's on-hand so I tried it just now and could not find those notes at all. I've never tried Lauder's so I'll have to hunt it down.

Lauder's is currently on sale in New Hampshire for 13.99$ a 1.75L bottle.
That was funny! Some snobs trash Johnny W Red, but I actually enjoyed it and its how I discovered my love for a smoky drink.
