      That may be because you're trying to rush the process? I know that once I stopped worrying about trying so hard to blend registers was the moment it started happening.

    I really like how you look at those things. People often get into trouble defining things, especially "mixed voice", because lots of people think that you "mix" your M1 (modal voice) with M2 (non-modal voice) or "mix" your chest resonance and head resonance, when the real explanation is that you "mix" your lower laryngeal register (M1) with your higher resonance register (head), as opposed to "chest voice" where you have M1 + chest resonance and "head voice" where you have M2 + head resonance, or falsetto where you have M2 + head resonance + incomplete fold closure. Really well explained here!

      Hi +arangor82 I am less about terms and more about sounds. I'm not big on using highway names to rename chest voice and headvoice however if I hear you or you hear me then it becomes clear what's going on. best wishes

    Your vid's are among the best I ever found, they are even more clear and simple than those of Justin Stoney for NYC here on youtube and you don't give others the feeling that what you do is for others impossible. I just still wonder if it's possible to substantially improve a good classic operatic but straining voice this way. I guess I will have to find out ;-)

  • @jeffersongesmundo3470

    why is your A4 more chestier here than other videos?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I wouldn't say it is, depends on the video/day/room I guess? I can choose to sing it loud or medium or soft. I am a much better singer now than I was when I made this video.

    • @jeffersongesmundo3470
      @jeffersongesmundo3470 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ive watched your video today about making the sound stronger, and about singing softly. I understand now maybe Mr. Phil the record here of A4 is louder (so more weight in mouth resonance is needed) and some record of A4's on other videos is lighter (because its soft volume so early head resonance or little chest resonance is needed). Thank you Mr. Phil. Ive watched your videos and learn from it, the only youtube free singing lessons Ive got freedom esp range. I am a dramatic baritone(based on passagio, lowest note, and color) but I sing higher than a dramatic tenor friend of mine (although I stillhave to work on my vowels and balance between chest and head depends on the songs). May God bless you mr. Phil. and more power to you.

    Do you have some Tips for Intonation/Pitch your Voice Singing records with Headphones?! would be very Nice!

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's so funny you mention that, I was just answering that question to a student of mine. It can be tricky because if you're singing with headphones on while listening to the song OUTSIDE of the headphones the perception of pitch can change. I find I tend to sing sharp like this. I've found that it helps to have the song coming THROUGH the headphones while turning MONITOR on for the vocals and have the volume in a way where you can hear both clearly through the headphones. I also like to do a take in the headphones then take them off and do a take without the headphones and compare both with a pitch tuner to see what I'm "tending to do"

    I practiced raising the soft palate and the easiest way to raise it is to just 'block' my nose. How would you sing the 'n' and 'm' consonants when you need opened nose(otherwise it sounds like you are saying b instead of 'n' or 'm'? Would you just open the nose for a moment and then close it again?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      'm' and 'n' consonants WILL be nasal because the mouth is closed, the sound can only come through the nose. This is normal. If you are aiming the sound in the right spot, the soft palate, then you won't have to worry about moving the sound around when you hit certain consonants. Good singing though is about singing on the vowel; you should only very briefly touch on consonants, just enough to be understood and not sound strange. The more you can emphasise the vowel in a line and gloss over the consonants without it sounding strange, the better.

  • @Timliu92
    @Timliu92 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Phil, just a question - were you utilising the pharyngeal when you accessed your mix? I was taught that you can do a slightly more nasal sound, sort of like Bugs Bunny in a way, first to find the release before eventually adding depth to the overall outcome.

    well, I think that mixed voice is remove or take away weight to your chest voice, I mean you have to remove some weight to your chest voice to raise it to the mouth and head ressonance,, so show me how TO do that,, at least One advice, thanks

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you don't have to remove any weight in order to mix the voice.

    Thank you so much for the video. I am learning Geoff Tate of Queensryche (formally of) and I have his lower register down pretty well. People say I sound like him in the lower range yet I do not have a developed mixed voice and when he goes into his I can not follow. It feels tight and strained. I am going to practice from this video and head to your site. Thank you

    • @philmoufarrege

      You are most welcome. Geoff Tate is a tough act to follow. I can teach you how to build your range like that though and more importantly, KEEP IT.

    How long have you been developing your mixed voice?
    Does it develop by time or is it only a matter of finding place?
    Will one day you get into a point where you don't need to warm up to access the mixed voice?
    I can only do it until G4. I am an E2 baritone. Can you tell me to what tone it should be and from which tone shall I start my head voice.

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +Zul Qarnain Abdullah
      Warm ups become quicker and quicker. Mixed voice is about STAYING IN YOUR REAL VOICE. You NEVER "start your headvoice" you instead stay in chest all the way up and learn how to do it without getting tight or constricted - THIS IS THE TRUTH ABOUT MIX VOICE.

    • @月夜流
      @月夜流 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Phil Moufarrege For how long can I manage to cover up mixed voice tones until E5 if I practice 30 minutes everyday? 1 month? R 30 mins enough?

      The upper limit of my chest voice is F4. One day, when I have managed to covered up C5 in the mixed voice, without warming up can I access G#4? or do I need warm up to activate the mixed voice from F#4?

    • @FlamencologyDance

      +Phil Moufarrege Hi Phil, how can one take their chest voice all the way up to their head voice (higher registrations) without constricting? Usually, we go into head voice and the chest resonance starts disappearing.
