The Fortress Part 2 - Installing Patio Drainage and Diverting Downspouts

  • We are moving onto the next stage of this backyard makeover by installing #drainage. There is a lot of standing water on this property after rain storms so our first step in remediating this issue is #diverting the #downspouts into a pop up emitter along the edges of the property. We want to move water away from the patio and deck so it doesn't end up causing issues down the road!

    At the pop out end it should have been a T joint. Top end should have been pop-out and below a 2-3 foot hole filled with pea gravel. That would keep the area of the lawn at the end fairly dry also.

      @jacke1129 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Popouts can work in the right situation and climate but it just seems like too many are either not installed correctly or simply used as an end all be all solution.

    Great call on adding the cleanout at the bottom of the gutter. So many do not and pay later...Good job, home owner will thank you when it plugs...

    When digging out your trenches, you should put the dirt on tarps; it would make it easier to refill and also improve the final appearance by about a million. Also, for your sweep connector.... I believe you are supposed to use a LONG SWEEP Y fitting as it will move the water faster than what you chose.

    Fun video. Did you guys account for possible pooling of water in the pop-up emitter and a weep-hole to allow that sitting water to drain out? If not, would be an easy fix.

    One of my favorite drainage channels on TH-cam is Robert Sherwood's the French Drain Man channel. I'm assesing my property's drainage needs at the moment. How long did it take you all to dig that trench? Also just watched a FDM video on Sch.40 freeze test. You should check him out.

    Is the pipe pitched towards the pop out or it doesn’t need to be because the pressure will push the water out. Also does the pop out just attach to a 90 degree fitting?

    • @THEpremieroutdoor
      @THEpremieroutdoor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water will come out regardless once the pipe fills up, but we like to have a decent pitch so the pipe doesn’t stay full of water all the time

    • @mikeganard6751
      @mikeganard6751 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEpremieroutdoor is that 4” pvc and the pop out does that just attach to a 90 degree fitting

    Was the water table really high there? Why not just use a deep soak away front and back? Would save digging a very long trench to nowhere

    You guys installing those big sewer cleanouts make your house look like s***. I mean it's really overkill and UGLY.. I cut the downspout short and run a flexible connector between the downspout and the PVC underground pipe. You can easily pull the intermediate flexible coupler out to clean. The other method is to put in a trap catch in your downspout. The other method is to put a catch storm basin in ground and just let the downspout drain into that. That will filter out all the leaves and roof granules.
