Welcome to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It's a beautiful and vibrant city and is the Arts, Cultural, Academic and Sports city of Australia. (Greater Melbourne ie. Melbourne including the suburbs is approximately 10,000 squared kilometres and has a population of approximately 4.9 million people.) In the 1850s it was the richest city in the world due to the gold found in mining in the countryside. There are lovely buildings from that time as well as modern and unusual skyscrapers. The CBD (Central Business District) is built on an easy to navigate grid, with trains, trams and buses going through it. As well as business, it also is a main retail area and has it also has many entertainment places such as cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels, theatres for the Arts , cinemas, nightclubs, museums, art galleries, sports facilities and stadiums etc. There are many parks and gardens throughout the city and environs .Greater Melbourne is approximately There is the Yarra River which runs through the city to the port and the bay with its beaches which Melbourne surrounds. The climate is temperate and people who live nearer to the bay can grow tropical plants because the weather is less cold in winter. I have them growing well in my garden, 11 kms from the city centre. We can have four seasons in one day so dress in layers to put on or take off clothes. There can be cold winters and hot summers and everything else, except for hurricanes/cyclones, and snow which is on the mountains not far away in winter. There is even a song written about it - 'Four Seasons In One Day,' by Crowded House. Melbourne has over 200 ethnicities from around the world who have made this city their home. Australians are friendly and approachable and we pride ourselves on the values of a 'fair go' and mateship.
Welcome to Melbourne We are very friendly generally so if ever in trouble do not hesitate to ask. Enjoy and slide by the seat of your pants you see alot more and meet some very unusual people bless XOXO 🤗💓🐾
Thanks Suzanne! ❤ It is so great to be here! We love the happy spirit of the aussies and can't wait to explore more and meet different people. Take care! x
Welcome to Australia . Yes Melbourn has fantastic food and coffee , so much variety and the freshness and quality is outstanding . You have so much to see , not just in Melbourn but the regional cities of Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo . All of them would make a great day trip or a weekend away .
Hey Melbourne is my hometown, if you wanna have a coffee sometime or a meetup that would be cool. I hang out on Brunswick st or Smith St alot. You'll see me walking around, come say hi if you vibe. Peace! ✨
Thanks for all this useful information. The truth is that it seems interesting and with various opportunities to study and work. I like the diversity of cultures, that must enrich the city a lot, right? Disco is super fun with his strange relationship with the birds hahahaha 😂😂😂 I look forward to your next video with info on cool coffees and more. big hug and enjoy the day 💞🍀
It’s definitely a city with rich culture and diversity it’s really exciting! Disco might get use to the birds on day, but for now they are his nemesis 😂 Hugs ❤️
As a young country, we tend to look to Europe for inspiration particularly in the arts and food so it was great to hear you guys praising our city's coffee and food culture.
Thanks Tom! We believe that sometimes "younger countries" have the advantage to look at things with fresh eyes, while older ones tent to stick older ways, which are not necessarily better. So we really enjoy the big differences. But we also know that the original people of Australia, are actually one of the oldest civilisations and we're very keen to learn more about them too. Take care x
Thanks for the new video🙏 hahahaha Disco is super cute🤩😂😂😂😂It seems that Melbourne is being very interesting in this first month, right? 🥰 Waiting for the new video with your new house and more things. Take care. I can't wait to see more videos soon guys😍😍😍
Welcome to Australia. My partner is German and we also live in Melbourne. I wish more German people would consider migrating to Australia. I hope you make lots of friends and have a great time.
Love the open 'plan'. So, really good information regarding your new home, with many positive reviews thus-far regarding comparisons between Europe & Australia, but, (you knew this was coming!) also let us know if Europe has an edge on anything. We've been to Sydney, Tazmania & Maria Island; we really enjoyed our trip, and found people lovely, but there are many things I also love about Europe, and life in Europe (I'm more familiar with UK, which I love with all my heart!). Hugs! And really looking forward to following your new adventures in this place. 😊
Thank you! 😊 Sounds like an awesome trip you had in Australia! Time will show us more differences between Europe and Australia. Might be worth another video on it’s own as soon as we had the chance to experience the country a little more. We can’t wait to move into our new home very soon! 😊 Hugs ❤️
Welcome. To extend your working holiday visa, you must work for 88 days away from any city on a farm or similar. Could be fruit picking or milking a cow. Many jobs are available. But that is the only way to get an extention and it's work 88 days in your first year before you apply for an extention . This could take 100 days depending on days off like weekends. The student visa should be simple providing you can show you have attended all your courses and are enrolled to study for another year. Good Luck and enjoy our beautiful country.
G'day guys, welcome to the Aussie land. I would just like to inform you that if you ever get time to do a little travelling please look at South Australia, especially at little country town called Hahndorf. I think you might find it interesting as it's a little piece of old Germany when Germany immigrants settled there and built a small town of home.
@@wearemonasi While on my honeymoon 42 years ago we were welcomed into the most wonderful German restaurant in Handorf by the family who owned it, even though they were preparing to close for the afternoon. We stayed chatting for four hours (until they opened for dinner!) A relaxing and memorable afternoon just enjoying fine food and great hospitality. There are some wonderful towns in the Barossa Valley with amazing cemeteries to wander through as well as famous wineries!
You both are very positive people . There was a Bosnian American couple and when they arrived in Australia they were not impressed because it is very expensive and there are too many strict rules . A couple of things went wrong and they were more annoyed . They were only here for 2 weeks . The only things they liked was Australia Zoo , kangaroos and empty beaches . They were happy to leave and go back to South East Asia and they couldn’t wait to leave . It was very sad that Australia didn’t reach their expectations . They didn’t really give it a good chance . . You both are very bubbly people and I am sure you will enjoy your adventure here in Australia .
Let's just say I'm an Indonesian where flying to Melbourne / Sydney is an easy 6-7 hours flight. Can you tell me 1 single reason why I should visit your native Germany rather than Australia? I put high priority on these following aspects: 1. Safety. I have a very unfavorable impression that Europe (Switzerland may be an exception)is badly infested with petty thieves utterly determined to steal my cash, watches and of course phones. Am I being overly prejudiced here? 2. Easy accessibility of authentic Asian cuisine like Chinese / Japanese / Thai restaurants. I don't like eating European food all that often anyway.
Hi there, thanks for your comment! We think some reasons to visit Europe might be to see the old architecture, experience different languages and cultures in close proximity and also if you are into history it could be a good reason to visit. Addressing your two questions: 1. We would consider Europe in general a pretty safe place. As in every city, there might be corners that you should avoid. Pickpocketing is definitely not uncommon in very touristic crowded areas. But if you have a close eye on your belongings in those areas you shouldn't run into problems. Overall you don't have to be overly concerned about your safety in Europe from our perspective. 2. This one might be a little more tricky. There are definitely a lot of restaurants with Asian cuisines but we wouldn't consider them really authentic. From our perspective the Asian cuisine is in general more adapted to the liking of europeans. But we are sure that you can also find authentic restaurants if you do some research. We hope that helps. Take care!
Welcome to Melbourne the creative capital of Australia 👏❤️☕️ Be sure to visit Tasmania whilst you are here. Contact me when you go and I will assist with some great itinerary ideas 👍
We are Irish and after living in the UK for 15 years we were offered jobs in all the Australian capitals. It came down to settling in either Sydney or Melbourne. We chose Melbourne and it’s been the best pick. We love Sydney. You cannot beat the harbour and beaches, but overall, Sydney is not as friendly and less multicultural than Melbourne. Both cities are forever claiming to be the “best”. Whatever. A good way to compare both is to say Sydney May have the looks but Melbourne has the personality.
That’s a great insight. 😃 thanks for sharing. We also spent some time in Sydney but really love Melbourne. Although we wouldn’t mind some nice beaches in the city 🙈 Take care guys!
Thanks for your comments and questions Terry. Sandra studied and lived in Melbourne a few years ago, so she already had great friends here and a great base for us to start this new chapter. Take care
Don’t listen to Glen everyone. Glen. Melbourne is undoubtedly the cultural and sporting capital of Australia. Without a shadow of a doubt! It may not have the landmarks and tourist attractions of Sydney (not to mention the over crowding of tourists). But if you want to live a fun lifestyle Melbourne is where it’s at. What other city can boast about experiencing 4 seasons in 1 day? I hope you both continue to love everything this great city has to offer. I would love to catch up with you both for a coffee. All the best on your journey.
Thanks for your comment Nick. We do believe Melbourne is an amazing place that has so much to offer. But of course, everyone can experience the same place very differently, and some might think otherwise. Either way, we're so happy to be here and can't wait to experience more of this wonderful place. 😃
